For the longest time, marijuana had been believed to be the Gateway Drug that could take a teenager down the road to destruction. Now, a new study suggests differently.
I knew all along that marijuana was not a Gateway Drug. Finally there is proof!
Check out the whole article, New Research Suggests Marijuana is NOT Gateway Drug as Believed on the Addicts Not Anonymous blog, at http://www.addictsnotanonymous.com/2011/06/new-research-marijuana-not-gateway-drug.htmlFor the longest time, marijuana had been believed to be the Gateway Drug that could... more

Cannabis these days is more well-known as marijuana, a term founded in the highly racial campaign to eliminate cannabis from competition in many industries from pharmaceuticals to big oil and many big money industries in between. This single plant has a very staggering list of thousands of uses, most of which are non-toxic to both humans and our environment as well as fully sustainable; unlike the many products and industries that such uses could compete with or completely replace.
Thanks to an all too effective disinformation campaign, launched in the name of hate and greed, the only thing most people today can associate with this plant are negative stereotypical effects related to drug abuse. Even though those few instances of use are not founded in reality, but rather exaggerations of a tiny percentage of statistical evidence showing detriment to human health which are often based on biased and flawed studies which do not hold up under unbiased scrutiny, the ignorance persists. Lies... that's what keeps people in fear of the plant that could change the world as we know it for the better. Doesn't seem right, does it?
Inform yourself, watch the documentaries and share this with everyone you know. It's time to dispel the fraudulent myths that have dominated public, drug, and foreign policy for over 70 years now. Not only do we have modern studies and evidence that say cannabis should never have been prohibited and virtually black-balled, we have thousands of years of evidence that says this is and has been the most important plant in the history of mankind!
Cannabis Prohibition is a travesty.... it's time to end this bullshit! Legalize, educate and regulate. Together we can change the world!

Bob Marley, 16″ x 20″. All copyrights and reproduction rights remain with the artist
At first glance, they're just iconic head shots of famous people you've seen many times before; only the tones of golden brown make them vaguely remarkable: Jesus, John Lennon, Bob Marley, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Jerry Garcia, Snoop Dog, Method Man, and more. A taste for rebellion, higher states of consciousness, and in most cases a trailblazing talent for music are about all that tie them together. Until closer inspection. Allow your eyes to move from the bigger picture and focus on the finer detail of the portraits, and the secret of their creation lights up in the mind: they're all mosaics – made out of the roach papers of smoked joints. Tune in for “Recycling on a Higher Level.”

NORML is saddened to report the passing of Jack Herer, the founder of the modern day hemp movement. Jack suffered a heart attack after speaking at last year’s Portland Hempstalk event, and had been in a physician-induced coma for several days afterward. The past seven months have been a struggle to recover for Jack – he awakened from the coma and had been making progress in regaining his health. Friends and family confirm that Herer, known throughout the world as ‘The Hemperor,’ passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 11:07am Pacific Time in Eugene, Oregon. He was 70 years old.
Jack began his cannabis activism in earnest in the early 1970s when he “swore to work every day until pot was legal, … or [he] turned 84.” Throughout the next ten years he led several statewide marijuana legalization efforts on west coast, primarily in California and Oregon.
Jack received worldwide attention in recognition in the late 1980s and early 1990s for the publication of his seminal work, The Emperor Wears No Clothes, which has now sold over 600,000 copies — making it the most widely read marijuana law reform title ever published. The book’s tagline, “How hemp can still save the world,” introduced hundreds of thousands of activists to the environmental and industrial uses of cannabis, which in turn relaunched the modern day hemp movement and global hemp industry. While researching his book, Jack unearthed a copy of the long-lost United States Department of Agriculture film, “Hemp for Victory,” which documented the federal government’s previous support for domestic hemp cultivation.
Jack’s dedication to cannabis activism was the subject of the 1989 film documentary, The Emperor of Hemp. Shortly following the release of the film, Jack suffered a stroke, which temporarily limited his speech and mobility. However, by mid-2000 Herer appeared to have made almost a full recovery from his illness, a feat he credited to the power of hemp’s therapeutic properties.
Today Jack’s name and memory lives on in the hemp activism of the millions who were influenced by his words and passion. The popular cannabis strain Jack Herer also bears his name.

At Natural Home, we love hemp. We eat hemp food and recommend hemp textiles for many areas of the home, and we’re excited about the role hemp’s taking on in insulation and other major building materials. Hemp’s a cool plant. But sadly, our enthusiasm for hemp can’t support anyone’s local economy in the United States. It’s legal to sell hemp products, but it’s illegal to grow the hemp here.

The United States spends an estimated $360 million on imported hemp.
A group of northern Michigan farmers is among a growing chorus that wants to change that. Recently, Everett Swift, a Michigan farmer, urged the Board of Commissioners in Montmorency County to pass a resolution in support of hemp farming. He pointed out that the money the United States spends on imported hemp, an estimated $360 million according to the Hemp Industries Association could be going to American farmers.
Oregon, Maine, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota and Vermont have passed pro-hemp legislation. Even though these states have made hemp cultivation legal, federal law still states that it is illegal to grow hemp, and farmers must obtain a permit from the Drug Enforcement Agency before they can grow hemp without fear of prosecution.
Unfortunately, the DEA doesn’t seem likely to hand out licenses anytime soon. Just before Christmas, the federal courts dismissed a case where two North Dakota farmers were suing the DEA over a permit. The farmers, Wayne Hauge and David Monson, were issued North Dakota’s first license to grow hemp in 2007. The farmers then applied for the DEA permit, which they never got. The farmers sued the DEA, saying they should be allowed to grow industrial hemp without fear of prosecution, but the courts dismissed the case. Not all farmers wait for the DEA permit, however. Last October Montana officials issued the state’s first license to grow hemp to Laura Bozeman, who said she had no intention of attaining a permit from the DEA.
Swift and other hemp supporters at the meeting say they want their county to be the catalyst for change in the state. The county commission took no action, but the farmers said they would continue to show up and campaign for hemp.1/20/2010 1:18:07 PM

News you may have missed - June 2009:
"The researchers ducked the obvious question of whether it might be simpler, faster and cheaper to simply light up a joint than to try and create a synthetic version of cannabis.
“Could people smoke marijuana to prevent Alzheimer’s disease if the disease is in their family?"
Professor Gary Wenk said in a statement, "We’re not saying that, but it might actually work.”
Wenk’s studies show that a low dosage in the morning of a certain cannabinoid, a component in marijuana, reversed memory loss in older rats’ brains. In his study, an experimental group of old rats received a dosage, and a control group of rats did not. The old rats that received the drugs performed better on memory tests, and the drug slowed and prevented brain cell death .... rat brains are similar enough to human brains to serve as partial models for humans, Wenk said.
Research involving marijuana or any other illegal drug is controversial, and Wenk’s findings are no exception. He said it is difficult to get work published, and his findings have received criticism that he is advocating a “stoner life,” and praise for contributing to science. MSN, Yahoo and WBNS have all featured his research. The American Association for the Advancement of Science has recently elected Wenk as a fellow for his contributions to Alzheimer’s research…
Researchers noted, … the scientific community does have sway on policy makers’ decisions on drug use, but it is a slow process. “We accept medical use of cocaine and morphine, which are just as illicit as marijuana and extremely addictive”.News you may have missed - June 2009:

Domino's Pizza announced today that it is changing its pizza recipe in just about every possible way. "We're basically relaunching Domino's Pizza," said Russell Weiner, the head of marketing for Domino's. The move by Domino's comes on the heels of similar announcements made by General Mills and Campbell, saying that they'll be altering some of their iconic products. Why are these companies tinkering with what's proven to be successful for them?
For Domino's, it simply comes down to taste. A recent survey of pizza consumers found that Domino's ranked at the bottom of all the major chains for taste, along with Chuck E. Cheese. With the approach of Super Bowl Sunday, the pizza industry's biggest day of the year, the company is adding butter, garlic, and parsley to its crust, switching from diced to shredded mozzarella cheese with some added provolone and creating a sweeter sauce with a more pronounced red-pepper flavor. Additionally, Domino's, which recently brought "The Noid" out of retirement, says that it plans to launch an aggressive online and television marketing campaign in conjunction with the new recipes and its 50th anniversary.

A group of civilly-disobedient hemp farmers and business leaders were arrested Tuesday morning while digging up the lawn to plant industrial hemp seeds at the headquarters of the Drug Enforcement Administration.
David Bronner, the president of Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps, a more than 60-year-old company that does tens of millions of dollars of business annually, was among those arrested.
Bronner buys the hemp used in his soaps from Canadian farmers. He was arrested outside the DEA museum, which shares space with the headquarters.
"Our kids are going to come to this museum and say, 'My God. Your generation was crazy. What the hell is wrong with you people?'" he said as Arlington County Police handcuffed him and walked him to a waiting car.

In California Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Governor, who has had to cut services to handle a $24 billion budget deficit for the coming year, has suggested that legalisation should be considered.
The smell gives the game away. A sweet herbal scent wafts from the medicines inside the smart display cases in the Harborside clinic in Oakland, California.
This is a marijuana dispensary, where the prescriptions have names like Super Silver Haze and Purple Trainwreck and customers need a “recommendation note” from a doctor.
Medical marijuana has become big business in California and the drug is approved for a range of conditions and for “any other illness for which marijuana provides relief”. In these straitened financial times, booming sales and healthy tax revenues mean that full legalisation of cannabis may be just around the corner.
The Harborside Health Centre — opened by Stephen DeAngelo, 51, in 2006 — alone employs 77 people, has 30,000 registered patients and brings in about $20 million (£12.4 million) annually in revenue.

Across California there are an estimated 2,100 dispensaries, co-operatives, wellness clinics and taxi delivery services in the sector known as “cannabusiness”. That is more than all the Starbucks, McDonald’s and 7-Eleven outlets in the state put together.
These dispensaries, with names like My Green Heaven Ministry, sell marijuana in bud and resin forms and offer other cannabis products, including hash cookies, cooking oils and bottled drinks.
In some high-end stores, there are pastry chefs to ensure the highest-quality cannabis baked goods. Most cannabis co-operatives, which produce their own plants, also sell potted plants and seeds for patients to grow their own medicine.
“People are choosing to become legal cannabis consumers because they don’t want to go out on the corners and deal with thugs and gangsters to get their medicine,” Mr DeAngelo told The Times. In California Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Governor, who has had to cut services to... more

EL PASO -- Legalizing marijuana in the United States would weaken Mexico's powerful drug cartels, panelists at a War on Drugs conference said Tuesday.
"If you take away half of their money, it will hurt them," said William Martin, a sociology professor at Rice University who studies drug abuse and government policy. "You are not going to break them, but you will hurt them."
