Bette Bourne - the Movie: A groundbreaking new documentary by director Jeremy Jeffs based on Mark Ravenhill's play Bette Bourne: a Life in Three Acts.
We are raising funds on IndieGoGo to tell this important story. JOIN US http://www.indiegogo.com/Bette-Bourne-the-Movie and together let's tell Bette's story.
Ravenhill says “Bette’s led a life with great personal strength and bravery but he’s also been involved in a political and social struggle from which I’ve benefited enormously.”
"Bette Bourne made a huge, positive, pioneering contribution to the Gay Liberation Front and indeed to the whole of the queer rights movement I salute him and look forward to seeing this film." Peter Tatchell
'This looks brilliant! Bette Bourne not only introduced me to a world of people such Quentin Crisp and Boy George, but more importantly, allowed me to introduce myself. We wouldn't be able to be who we are today, or be able to do what we do today if it wasn't for the icon that is Bette Bourne' Art Mitchells Urwin, SOAS student.
Leading director Jeremy Jeffs is working with the acclaimed British playwright Mark Ravenhill to make a film based on his play Bette Bourne: a Life in Three Acts.
For the first time, Bette Bourne tells story of the fight for gay liberation and the real story of the seventies: a decade of near revolution, social change and protest that rocked the establishment and brought us hard won freedoms in gay rights, civil rights and female liberation. Mixing the personal and the political, the film will use key
moments in Bette’s own life to reveal common experiences of gay life and key events that have defined gay rights in the UK and America.
As a well known actor in the early 70's Bette had appeared alongside Sir Ian Mckellan and starred in the famous early cop show Z-Cars but he gave it up to take on the fight for gay rights. Bourne says, 'When people started to talk about arrests and the suicides, of lives wasted, I suddenly felt angry. It was a very quick thing: I looked back over my life to that point and wanted everything to change."
By meeting people - including Peter Tatchell, Stuart Feaher and Andrew Lumsden - who were on the front line, they'll be telling the first hand story of the early days of the Gay Liberation Front, the first Pride marches and also Bourne's ground-breaking Bloolips theatre company.
This will be the first film in nearly 40 years that has looked at the early days of gay rights in the UK and the first to explore the vital work that the Bloolips did in New York, San Francisco and the rest of the USA.
On May 3rd 2011 we launched on IndieGoGo. A platform where we are raising
funds for the documentary. It is where YOU can enable the making of Bette

It doesn't matter that I'm straight. What matters is that I support the efforts of the GLBT community in speculative fiction. Show your pride and participate in this momentous day!
"As a member of the Outer Alliance, I advocate for queer speculative fiction and those who create, publish and support it, whatever their sexual orientation and gender identity. I make sure this is reflected in my actions and my work."

Gay Pride? or Shame!? Our take on the Glorious Annual Celebration of Exploitation, Manipulation, Deception and Intimidation provided to serve Manchester's LGBT Community.
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Young People have been speaking out in response to an increase in wristband prices, charges for small groups to enter the parade and have a stall, a "youth space" that you have to pay to get in which only last 2 hours that's if you can beat the queues... and then all the respect we've had (not!) from bullies charged with running run Manchester's Pride Festival in 2008... and it certainly didn't go unnoticed!
Watch our short documentary film that's really getting under the skin of pride, exposing corporate greed and authoritarian censorship at it's worst and most appalling, ripping off the people it's designed to empower.
This film is dedicated with much love and respect to Manchester Pride's Festival Director "Yeah" Jackie Crozier. We love you Jackie, much love to you and all your friends and associates!
See you at Manchester Pride 2009 - when we will be in the parade and once again, not afraid to speak out however hard you try to stop us.
Don't forget to get your Manchester Pride tickets... we can sell you some for just ten pence! apparently that's all their (we're worth).Gay Pride? or Shame!? Our take on the Glorious Annual Celebration of Exploitation,... more

Members of Jerusalem's Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender community and their supporters marched in Jerusalem on Thursday afternoon, and ultra-Orthodox Jews staged a protest from a safe distance in what has become an annual test of strength.
The gay community sees itself as deprived of full recognition, equality and rights. Ultra-Orthodox Jews reject homosexuality as depravity.
Posters signed by critical rabbinical authorities, sanctimonious eye-rolling on both sides, the inevitable petition to the supreme court, as well as the expected ruling in favor — everyone knows the drill.
In part, the gay issue taps into existing tensions in Israel between religious and secular and right- vs. left-wing politics, and the whole thing is often perceived as a package deal. Not surprisingly, protesters against the parade included Itamar Ben-Gvir, a career activist whose name is in the notebook of any reporter who ever covered a right-wing demonstration in Israel.Members of Jerusalem's Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender community and their... more

Because same-sex marriages are not recognized in the United States, certain marital benefits, like the advantage of permanent residency for a foreign born partner, are denied to bi-national spouses. This commonly results in the foreign partner being forced to leave the United States, and their loved ones, behind. The demonstration however was illegal and led to several arrests.
