Dear Barack Obama.
I will always remain your admirer, but find it heard to reconcile this conviction, with my bewilderment at your unwillingness to confront the issue of ending the insane 99 year-old-war on Marijuana.
And my dearest ever Mr. president. As fantastically incredible as it sounds, yes you can swiftly, simultaneously, give peace a chance, the economy an historical high, the budget relief and better yet, a mortal blow to both terror and corruption. Globally.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney on Tuesday insisted that President Barack Obama’s health care reform law should be overturned and that people with preexisting conditions should be denied coverage if they had never had insurance before.
During an appearance on NBC’s Tonight Show, host Jay Leno told Romney that he knew people that had never been able to get insurance before “Obamacare” was passed.
“It seems to me like children and people with preexisting conditions should be covered,” Leno noted.
“People with preexisting conditions — as long as they’ve been insured before, they’re going to continue to have insurance,” Romney explained.
“Suppose they were never insured?” Leno asked.
“Well, if they’re 45 years old, and they show up, and they say, I want insurance, because I’ve got a heart disease, it’s like, `Hey guys, we can’t play the game like that. You’ve got to get insurance when you’re well, and if you get ill, then you’re going to be covered,’” Romney replied.
“I know guys that work in the auto industry and they’re just not covered because they work in brake dust,” Leno pressed. “And then they get to be 30, 35, and were never able to get insurance before. Now they have it. That seems like a good thing.”
“But people who have had the chance to be insured — if you’re working in an auto business for instance, the companies carry insurance, they insure all their employees — you look at the circumstances that exist,” the candidate explained. “But you don’t want everyone saying, `I’m going to sit back until I get sick and then go buy insurance.’ That doesn’t make sense. But you have to find rules that get people in that are playing by the rules.”
The Washington Post‘s Greg Sargent pointed out that by passing health insurance mandates in Massachusetts, Romney had acknowledged that people should get coverage when they are well, but he had since moved further to the right in an effort to win the GOP presidential primary.
“So he’s forced to give a nonsensical answer to the core policy and moral question that’s left behind if we do away with Obamacare: What should the federal government do about those who can’t get insurance covarge, thanks to preexisting conditions?” Sargent wrote.
“Until Romney details otherwise, his answer, for all practical purposes, is: Nothing.”

Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert (R) on Monday said liberals should be opposed to the insurance mandate in the Affordable Care Act because it could be used against them by a future “redneck” president, according to The Hill.
“Let’s say you want to follow this administration’s idea of greatest good for the greatest number of people,” he said at a press conference. “It ought to scare liberals to come run and join conservatives, because what it means is when this president’s out of the White House and you get a conservative in there, if this president has the authority under Obamacare to trample on religious rights, then some redneck president’s got the right to say, ‘you know what, there’s some practices that go on in your house that cost people too much money and healthcare, so we’re going to have the right to rule over those as well.’”
The U.S. Supreme Court began hearing arguments on Monday on the so-called individual mandate in the Affordable Care Act.
Obama’s landmark law grants 30 million Americans health insurance for the first time, bringing universal coverage closer than ever before.
But its requirement that all Americans purchase personal health insurance or pay a penalty is seen by Republicans as a breach of the U.S. Constitution.
In Monday’s 90-minute hearing, the justices considered arguments on the narrow question of whether they have jurisdiction in the case, or must wait until the law has fully entered into force after 2014 to rule on it.
“My sense was that… they seemed to be, through their questions, indicating that they thought that the court ought to rule on this,” said Price, who attended the hearing.
On the Senate floor, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell attacked Obama’s signature legislative achievement as “a mess,” and said that while the president was right to seek reform, “the bill he gave us and that Democrats forced through Congress on a party-line vote just isn’t working.”
“Regardless of what the court decides, it needs to be repealed and replaced with common sense reforms that actually lower costs and that Americans really want.”
Senate Republican Jeff Sessions, who attended the hearing, expressed concern that “the courts have given too much deference to the power of the federal government and its reach.”
“This is going to be a challenge to this court to move away from the idea that anything the federal government wants to do, it’s empowered to do. That is not so,” he added.
Every Republican in the Senate and House of Representatives is on record opposing the health care reform law.
Obama’s Affordable Care Act “has become a malignant tumor, it’s metastasizing now and it feeds on American liberty,” said Iowa congressman Steve King, who has been instrumental in crafting anti-Obamacare legislation.

Michele Bachmann was a guest on This Week with George Stephanopoulos, and she spends some time trying to sound like a legal expert. She tries to gin up some Republican talking points about the allegedly unconstitutional mandate of the Affordable Care Act.
Keep it up, Michele. Every time you open your mouth, we get to remind people that Mitt Romney was the real author of Obamacare, and this plan was designed by the right wing Heritage Foundation:

Former Sen. Arlen Specter, a Republican who turned Democrat in 2009, said Wednesday that “cannibals” were devouring lawmakers who did not maintain ideological purity.
“Like cannibals eating their own, that’s what’s happening in Washington,” he said on CBS News. “You had a senator like Bob Bennett, with a 93 percent conservative rating, he cast one vote to support the bail out of the auto industry and he got dumped by the Republican Party.”
Specter said the same thing happened on the Democratic side with now Independent Sen. Joe Liebermann.
“The cannibals have taken over and it has produced a gridlocked Senate and a dysfunctional government,” he added.
Specter said politicians no longer care about governing. Instead, they only care about was winning elections.
He claimed even the Supreme Court had become ideological, citing their controversial 2010 ruling in Citizens United.

The world today seems to be full on anger and conflict. You can't go far without hearing of something awful happening somewhere in the world. But is this the true reality? Or is this just what we perceive to be reality because it's all we see and hear? Ask anyone you know if they want us to be at war for any reason, and most likley that person will say no. (Unless they own an oil company or their last name rhymes with Blay-nee.) So why is it that we seem to be stuck in perpetual state of war and violence? Follow the money.
They say money is the root of all evil, and by they, I mean people who do not have any. I do not think money itself corrupts people, but what that money allows them to do and get away with does. There are plenty of well to do people who are compassionate and great human beings, but we all know too well that there are also some bad golden apples out there.
Everyday more and more people are awaking and realizing everything is not as peachy as the CNN presidential "debates" makes it seem. With people like Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich speaking daily on the harsh realities of the American Empire, more and more of us are starting to question more. A mass political awaking is taking place, even as I type this, and it has those few bad golden apples freaking out.

As reports that Meredith Vieira is planning an exit from NBC's "Today Show" swirl, the anchor has sparked controversy over her failure to question a number of unsubstantiated challenges to the U.S. citizenship of President Barack Obama that Donald Trump floated in an interview with Vieira this morning.
Trump--the billionaire real estate tycoon and reality TV figure who is flirting with a 2012 presidential run--again sought to suggest that Obama was not born in the United States. "Birther" activists on the right have circulated the unsubstantiated claim in an effort to depict Obama's presidency as the outgrowth of a shadowy, constitutionally illegitimate conspiracy.
The birther position has been thoroughly debunked, and it hasn't gained traction within the journalistic mainstream. But Trump has nonetheless been on a media blitz in recent weeks promoting it.
When the issue came up on "Today"--which airs on the same network as Trump's "Celebrity Apprentice"--Vieira didn't exactly hold his feet to the fire.
"His grandmother in Kenya said he was born in Kenya and she was there and witnessed the birth," said Trump, reiterating a claim that has been proven false, as Vieira sat by silently. (You can watch the exchange in the clip above.)
Critics took note.
"Trump simply steamrolled over her challenges, for instance, on Hawaii's policy as to what birth documents it makes available," writes Time's James Poniewozik. "But she also let him make the claim that Obama's grandmother said she saw him born in Kenya--an old, and long-debunked, chestnut of birthers that ranks up there with the fake Mombassa birth certificate--without questioning it. So now millions of Today viewers are invited to take it as fact."
A spokeswoman for the "Today Show" did not respond to a request seeking comment on whether Vieira felt that she had adequately pressed Trump on his claims. But judging by how some of her peers in TV news have handled Trump in the same situation, she appears to have failed.
Take, for instance, conservative Fox News host Bill O'Reilly, who had Trump on his prime time show several weeks ago, and was well prepared to spar with his guest on the birther issue.
"There were two announcements the week [Obama] was born [in his native Hawaii] in both Honolulu newspapers saying that he was born. That is impossible to make happen if he had not been born in the hospital," said O'Reilly, incredulously. "What is he, baby Jesus? There was a sophisticated conspiracy to smuggle that baby back into the country?"
Vieira, meanwhile, is said to be ready to abandon her anchor chair at "Today." TV Guide reported Tuesday that the host is expected to leave the show when her contract expires later this year. Items reporting the same development swiftly followed in the Hollywood Reporter and the New York Times.
NBC News pushed back on those reports--and a separate one claiming that Vieira's co-host, Matt Lauer, is also on his way out the door--via the network's own internal news service.
"There seems to be an awful lot of speculation around news anchors these days, and it's not our practice to comment on any of it," the network said in a statement.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Only 17 percent of Americans see President Barack Obama as a strong and decisive military leader, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll taken after the United States and its allies began bombing Libya.
Nearly half of those polled view Obama as a cautious and consultative commander-in-chief and more than a third see him as indecisive in military matters.
Obama was widely criticized in 2009 for his months-long consultations with senior aides and military chiefs on whether to send more troops to Afghanistan. Critics called it dithering, but he said such a big decision required careful deliberation. He eventually dispatched 30,000 more troops.
But Obama is facing mounting discontent among opposition Republicans and from within his own Democratic Party over the fuzzy aims of the U.S.-led mission in Libya and the lack of a clearly spelled-out exit strategy for U.S. forces.
If the Libya mission becomes a foreign policy mess, mixed with perceptions Obama is a weak military leader, it could spell trouble for him in the 2012 presidential election.
[ For complete coverage of politics and policy, go to Yahoo! Politics ]
The poll also found that 60 percent of Americans support the United States and its allies bombing Libya to impose a no-fly zone to protect civilians from Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's forces.
Seventy-nine percent of those surveyed said the United States and its allies should try to remove Gaddafi, who has ruled the oil-exporting North African country for more than four decades.
In the survey, conducted on March 22 from a nationally representative sample of 975 adults, only 7 percent supported deploying ground troops.
Of the 60 percent in favor of the Libya military action, 20 percent strongly supported it and 40 percent somewhat supported it. Twenty-five percent somewhat opposed it and 14 percent were strongly against.
"NO TOLERANCE" FOR GROUND TROOPS
The survey suggested Americans may see Obama in a very different light from his predecessor, George W. Bush, who launched the Afghanistan and Iraq wars with some allies but was widely seen as a go-it-alone leader.
Of those polled, 48 percent described Obama's leadership as commander in chief as "cautious and consultative," 36 percent as "indecisive and dithering," and 17 percent as "strong and decisive" in a question that offered only those three choices.
"The data suggest he is perceived to be more consultative in his approach, which may distinguish him in the minds of the American public from his predecessor, George W. Bush, who was not perceived to be," said Ipsos Public Affairs Director Julia Clark, adding that the responses broke along political lines.
In a sign of political division, the top Republican in Congress, House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner, on Wednesday sharpened his criticism of Obama, saying he was "troubled that U.S. military resources were committed to war without clearly defining ... what the mission in Libya is and what America's role is in achieving that mission."
Obama secured U.N. Security Council sanctions as well as Arab support before beginning the military operation, whose objective is to protect civilians rather than to oust Gaddafi, the latest authoritarian Arab leader to face mass protests.
Clark said she was surprised by the strong majority -- 79 percent -- favoring removing Gaddafi from power, particularly at a time when the United States is gradually winding down the war in Iraq and still heavily deployed in Afghanistan.
"That's pretty overwhelming," she said, but noted support for the use of U.S. ground troops in Libya is minimal.
"Everybody thinks Gaddafi needs to go but there is absolutely no tolerance for the idea of sending in ground troops," Clark said, citing U.S. fatigue with the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. "The idea of entering a third conflict like that garners very, very little support."WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Only 17 percent of Americans see President Barack Obama... more

Is Donald Trump a “birther,” that political fate worse than death — or almost? Only “truthers” are more reviled by the establishment.
The Donald went on The View and said Obama needs to show the birth certificate.
“I want him to show his birth certificate. I want him to show his birth certificate,” he said. “Everybody else has to. Excuse me. I really believe there is a birth certificate. Look, she’s smiling. Why doesn’t he show his birth certificate? I wish he would. I think it’s a terrible pale hanging over him.”
And if it is discovered Barry was not born in the United States? What then?
Can we send him back to Chicago? Or to prison for tricking the nation?

Fury is building over rolling nationwide blackouts triggered by the Obama administration's deliberate agenda to block the construction of new coal-fired plants, as local energy companies struggle to meet Americans' power demands amidst some of the coldest weather seen in decades.
- As we reported yesterday, four hospitals in Texas reacted furiously after they were hit with planned outages despite being promised they would be spared even as power to Super Bowl venues remains uninterrupted.
- Thousands in New Mexico have been left without natural gas as Gov. Susana Martinez on Thursday declared a state of emergency. "Due to statewide natural gas shortages, I have ordered all government agencies that do not provide essential services to shut down and all nonessential employees to stay home" on Friday, Martinez said after meeting with public safety personnel in Albuquerque," reports the Associated Press.
- Borderland residents have been asked to limit their use of natural gas as the Texas Gas Service asks that larger commercial facilities voluntarily close their doors to save supplies.
- People in Tucson have been asked to limit their use of hot water and moderate their thermostat levels to save on energy.
- Shortages of natural gas in San Diego County has forced utility companies to "cut or reduce the gas supplied to some of their largest commercial and industrial customers," reports North County Times.
- In El Paso, "Hundreds of thousands of electricity customers continue to face periodic blackouts, and nearly 900 gas customers still have no heat," reports the El Paso Times, with El Paso Electric resorting to using generators in a struggle to meet demand while still having to implement forced outages.Fury is building over rolling nationwide blackouts triggered by the Obama... more

Is President Obama in serious danger of losing re-election in 2012?
A new McClatchy/Marist Poll released over the weekend found Obama's job approval rating at just 42 percent — the lowest number of his presidency. One reason Obama's numbers have taken a turn for the worse: The president has lost ground with Democrats in recent weeks.
According to the poll, 74 percent of Democrats approve of the job Obama is doing — a sign that he remains enormously popular with his base. But that number is down nearly 9 percentage points since November, according to McClatchy. Meanwhile his disapproval rating nearly doubled, moving from 11 percent to 21 percent in the last month.
Among self-described liberals, his approval rating has dropped from 78 percent to 69 percent since November.
At the same time, his standing among independent voters — the group that propelled him to the White House in '08 — remained dismal. Just 39 percent of independents approve of Obama's job performance, compared with 50 percent who disapprove. That's down more than 20 points since Obama was elected.
Matched up against early 2012 contenders, the poll finds that if the election were held today, Obama would narrowly lose to Republican Mitt Romney, 44 percent to 46 percent — though that's within the poll's 3.5 percent margin of error. He would narrowly beat former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, 47 percent to 43 percent.

Embarrassing top secret US diplomatic files are set to be made public by Wikileaks.
The whistle-blowing website is preparing to release cables sent from American embassies around the world.
And President Obama's aides fear they could reveal the work of US secret services, diplomatic rows and blunt assessments of foreign powers.
They also warned the unauthorised release threatens long-standing alliances and could even put lives at risk.
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her staff have been calling friendly governments in a bid to limit the damage.
State Department spokesman Philip Crowley said: "These revelations are harmful to the United States and our interests.

"They are going to create tension in relationships between our diplomats and our friends around the world.
"We wish this would not happen, but we are obviously prepared for the possibility that it will."
The website has not said what will be in the latest leak, expected within days, but suggested it could run to 2.8million confidential files.
Some reports claim the website will produce documents alleging Nato ally Turkey allowed Iraqis to smuggle weapons and bombs to al-Qaeda terrorists in their home country.
Other documents are thought to focus on Europe, the Middle East, Russia and Asia.
Wikileaks, founded by Julian Assange, has previously released tens of thousands of American classified documents about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
