Vera Farmiga is known for her serious roles, but she finally gets to show off her comedic timing in "Henry's Crime." Playing Julie, she's a diva actress in Buffalo playing the lead in a local production of Chekov's "The Cherry Orchard," and since her theater is next to a bank that is about to be robbed by Henry (played by Keanu Reeves), she has quite a few run-ins with him -- especially when his scheme requires him to take a part in her play. Naturally, the two fall for each other. Farmiga talks about the parallels between "Henry's Crime" and the play-within-the-movie, and the passion she shared with Reeves on set.

If "Henry's Crime" and "Point Break" were put back to back, James Caan has the Gary Busey role. As Max, he's the older mentor to Keanu Reeves, who provides not only guidance but also comedic relief, in this instance, as a con man convict who gets out of jail to help Reeves commit a bank robbery, rather than prevent one. Caan talks about the character motivations for "Henry's Crime," as well as one of its inspirations.

A film that thinks it’s a good idea to cast Keanu Reeves in a role where a fair portion of his duties involve undertaking Chekhov better have a strong game plan. “Henry’s Crime” does indeed have a fairly intriguing plan, but unfortunately, absolutely zero game.
It is a caper picture with no tension, a romance with no heat, and in the few spots where it takes a stab at comedy, about as funny as a holiday in the gulag.

Keanu Reeves didn't set out to rob a bank. Not really. It was all his friends' doing. And they weren't really his friends, considering the tension between him and the group's leader. Although the disguises should have tipped him off...

Source Code has an interesting premise – what if you could go back in time, via by being inserted into the mind of another person for the last eight minutes of that person’s life? It’s a thriller with big ideas, executed by director Duncan Jones, whose low budget Moon demonstrated his natural facility for science fiction/fantasy. With Source Code, he’s been given more money to work with, and more actors (since Moon was largely the Sam Rockwell show). With a cast that includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan, Vera Farmiga, and Jeffrey Wright, Jones keeps the story on track, and drives it home. Here, Jones talks about his influences and some of the easter eggs hidden in the code. When Jake Gyllenhaal isn't on the train in Source Code, he's in a pod, communicating via monitor with an Air Force officer named Colleen Goodwin (played by Vera Farmiga). Goodwin explains that while his character Colter Stevens last remembers himself to be on an Army mission in Afghanistan, he is actually on a secret mission to find a bomb on a Chicago train before it blows up, and to identify the bomber, who has plans for even more explosions.

In Source Code, Jake Gyllenhaal wakes up on a train and finds himself sitting next to a woman who seems to know him -- but he doesn't know her. For eight minutes, he talks to that woman (played by Michelle Monaghan), before the train blows up -- at which point he's yanked into the present and he's told that he's embodying someone else in the past, and he's going to continue going back to that body on that train in the past, for the same eight minutes, until he can find the bomber. Each of those visits is a "source code," and though it's the same eight minutes, each time, it's a little different, and each time, his relationship with Monaghan's character grows. Monaghan explains how tricky time travel can be, and whose body she'd be willing to jump into again.

Films that are perfect at every single level, from the storytelling to the dialogue, from the acting to the editing, are extremely rare. “Up in the Air” is one such film. It’s at once contemporary and eternal, a portrait of these desperate, unfortunate times we are living in. A human film, a touching film, a film that in a weird way reaffirms our humanity while at the same time avoiding all of the traditional Hollywood focus group approved tidy resolutions.
