Exploring a foreign country improves our understanding of the world and adds some spice to the routine of daily life...but what if the mark you left on that country benefited a small village not found in any travel guide and the greatest souvenir you took home was the unmistakeable feeling of being part of something larger than yourself?
Striving to make you part of the landscape, not just a spectator, Al Campo International Programs combines sustainable development, eco-adventure and language training to provide a unique and comprehensive exploration of a foreign country, its people and its culture.
Explore the website, watch the movie and see how your summer or seasonal break can be fun, adventurous and rewarding!
Our ten years of work in Central America has allied
us with many NGOs, community groups and most significantly the United
Nations Food Security Program. You can be part of an effort towards improving environmental conditions in rural villages in order to provide access to water, ways to increase food production for small farmers, improve nutrition levels for children and restore the natural environment.
Each Al Campo trip includes three elements:
Sustainable Development Projects
Language Training
Adventure Travel and Exploration
Sustainable Development Projects
Sustainable development encompasses a great deal of issues, but in Central America we deal primarily with those things that affect the environment and the people who rely on it for their own survival.Through our cooperation with the United Nations and other local non-profits, we focus our projects on reforestation, water and sanitation, erosion control, sustainable farming practices, and nutrition.
Adventure Travel is the third element of Al Campo trips. No international journey is complete without some exploration into the natural wonders this country posesses. Central America offers a myriad of attractions including rainforests, volcanoes, barrier reefs, beaches, crater lakes and mangroves (just to mention a few).Depending on the country program you choose, surfing, diving, snorkeling, sea kayaking, volcano and jungle exploration are just a few of the eco-oriented adventures you will be part of.
Spanish Language Training
While experiences are often beyond words, some understanding of the local language enhances each student’s experience and brings us that much closer to the people we live and work with.
Students should arrange for their own airfare to Managua (Nicaragua) or San Pedro Sula (Honduras) and will be met at the airport by a bilingual member of our team in the respective city. Al Campo can help with logistics and recommendations on the best flights to take. An Al Campo staff member flying at the same time as an enrolled student can act as a travel chaperone.
