Ever heard a tune in a videogame and thought, "I know this from somewhere"? Don't worry, you're probably not crazy. Most likely, you do know that song from somewhere. You probably heard it on the radio, or in a movie, or on your favorite CD. Videogames, you see, have a curious habit of pilfering tunes from other sources. Peter Gabriel once said that 90% of art is theft (though he may have swiped that statement from someone else), and that's certainly true in gaming. We'll probably never know if the similarities between certain game tunes and remarkably similar songs that came before are mere coincidence or simply that questionable 90% of art. So, we'll let you decide for yourself; we've put together comparisons of some of the most egregious examples of these slightly-too-familiar tunes, with side-by-side audio clips for you to judge by. By posting this article, I am not trying to point the finger or join any witch hunt - it is food for thought - where we should draw the line between inspiration and plagiarism?

Coldplay have poured cold water on an American band’s claim that they’ve ripped off one of their songs for their new album.
Unknown New York indie outfit Creaky Boards say Chris Martin and co have stolen one of their melodies for their number one album title track Viva La Vida.
Creaky Boards say the Coldplay track sounds uncannily like their tune called The Songs I Didn’t Write and that Martin may even have seen them play the song live at this year’s CMJ festival in New York.
