LOUP is a mix between free-jazz, drone and noise, captured in a voluntary, affirmed and exciting flux, which gave them the opportunity to support bands such as Rangda (Chris Corsano, Rick Bishop, Ben Chasny) and The Thing ( Mats Gustafsson's trio) with Otomo Yoshihide; LOUP sounds definitely right http://www.freeturbine.com/index.php/free-albums/L/47-loup/55-the-openingLOUP is a mix between free-jazz, drone and noise, captured in a voluntary, affirmed... more

Possessing one of contemporary music’s most incendiary live shows and a clutch of critically acclaimed albums, Rhode Island duo Lightning Bolt have earned wild praise from some of music’s bigwigs (the likes of Steve Albini, John Peel). Their drum/bass set-up might sound limiting, but the uncompromising music and textures they create are anything but. They have just recently released Earthly Delights, their fifth album, and first since 2005’s lauded Hypermagic Mountain, and is further example of their unclassifiable sound. Their music straddles genres such as metal, noise, punk, prog, and favours textures, rhythms, and riffs over easy listening. http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/album-rewievs/31047-lightning-boltPossessing one of contemporary music’s most incendiary live shows and a clutch... more

Drunken Gunmen comes to us heavy in reverb and ready to rock us to the farther reaches of the universe. Their sound is best described as Bauhaus meets Space Invaders. Deep Space, Distant Future is sort of an audio science fiction epic. Instrumental tracks such as “The Thousand Light Year Stare” and “Infused” are the most effective but Graeme Kirk’s vocals are alluringly full of enough menace and angst to please even the most jaded rocker.
The philosophy: Set up in a hall with various musical instruments, computers, and a bunch of electronic toys. Press record and start playing while consuming large amounts of alcohol. Pray for inspiration. http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/free-improvised/6863-drunken-gunmenDrunken Gunmen comes to us heavy in reverb and ready to rock us to the farther reaches... more

Of the 51 tracks presented here, less than 10 were ever recorded to the best of the band's limited abilities. A complete collection of Toys for Elliot. Compiling recordings from their single cassette release and dozens of practice cassettes. From The Cortinas to Lunatic Fringe and Disorder, Bristol had a huge Punk scene that has influenced, affected and stimulated a vast range of artists that operate in the city. Many of these artists produce music that wouldn’t necessarily suggest a Punk heritage but scratch beneath the surface of a lot of the major players in the Bristol milieu and you will find a fondness for the times of `spikey barnets’, limited musical ability, a `F*** You’ attitude and disrespect for the music industry and its poseur hierarchy. http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/album-rewievs/398-dirty-hc-punkFrom The Cortinas to Lunatic Fringe and Disorder, Bristol had a huge Punk scene that... more

The music of TERROR AT THE OPERA doesn't lend itself to modern classification, nor, indeed, to modernity. Toy pianos, diaphanous guitar and a dense, mesmeric accordion, conjured like a ghost of fin de siécle Vienna, betray the instant gratification that pop music proposes. However, the dark matter of absinthe dreams and other worlds made manifest in the music is pure atmosphere. http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/world/380-terror-at-the-operaThe music of TERROR AT THE OPERA doesn't lend itself to modern classification,... more

It is a very diverse stuff, ranging from the examples of alt-folk, straightforward pop punk and twee-pop to free form guitar improvisations and noise music. Acoustic parts, bass guitars, a lot of electric guitar parts, recorded and edited in all kinds of ways, using an mexican Fender Stratocaster and an modified Epiphone Les Paul, a cheap acoustic guitar, and a Squier Jazz Bass, also used some cheap dynamic microphones. http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/free-improvised/341-brunkIt is a very diverse stuff, ranging from the examples of alt-folk, straightforward pop... more

The Françoiz Coballa EP is a collection of the first five lo-fi songs recorded by singer-songwriter Françoiz Coballa. Françoiz Coballa (also know as El Niño Coballa) is a Mexican singer and guitar player born in Zapopan, Jalisco. His music is strongly influenced by American Roots Music. Known for his obbessive behaviour, he began his carrer in the middle of 2005 playing guitar and harmonica and then spitting out words from his mind into improvised songs.
He states: "Planning is not for me; I don't like to see forward too much neither have I fallen in love with my own life; I like to see my life in short periods of time comprised by a few hours".
Away from the music scene in his own country, his voice began being noticed and compared to the harsh grunt of Tom Waits and the lo-fi sound of his songs often got him described as an old soul; even though he's not even 20 years old.
Influenced by blues in particular, he represents a different edge in Mexican music, a dark and slow experience. Robert Johnson, Tom Waits and John Fahey have also been influences on the road he has walked. And his odd sense of humor (he claims that he died at the end of 2006, speaks in the third person and always dresses the same) define him as a very complicated, naïve and excentric person: "I'm obbesed with my self; it's not about living everyday like it's the last... that is passional.. I don't care about passion; I'm obbssesed with nature".
His work is feed by all of this; and the output; far from being close to any modern musical standard; attempts to be honest and describe; as a very good storyteller, the life (and everything that that word implies) of a odd soul.
Françoiz Coballa (1988-2007) was/is a Mexican singer & song writer born and dead in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico. There is a lot of controversy around his supposed death. http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/jazz/316-francoiz-coballaThe Françoiz Coballa EP is a collection of the first five lo-fi songs recorded... more

"CCTV cameras which use artificial intelligence software are being developed to "hear" sounds like windows smashing, researchers have revealed.
University of Portsmouth scientists are working on adapting the software so it can also react to crowd noise.
Crimes would be captured on camera faster and response times improved.
The news comes after the BBC learned councils in southern England routinely used powers brought in to fight terrorism and crime to spy on people.
Figures obtained by BBC South showed the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (Ripa) was used more than 750 times by the councils in 2007/08.
If in a car park someone smashes a window, the camera would turn to look at them and the camera operator would be alerted
Dr David Brown
The new three-year surveillance study is being funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).
The existing software is sophisticated enough to identify minor visual cues such as whether a car aerial is up or more complex activity such as violent behaviour, researchers said.
Dr David Brown, from the University of Portsmouth, said: "The visual-recognition software will be able to identify visual patterns but for the next stage we want to get the camera to pivot if it hears a certain type of sound.
"So, if in a car park someone smashes a window, the camera would turn to look at them and the camera operator would be alerted." from the article...
