A German medic who treated Hitler during WW1 has confirmed what the famous old song always said - the Führer really did only have one love spud. According to the doctor, the Nazi leader lost one of his crown jewels during the Battle of the Somme in 1916.
Until now, there hasn't actually been any conclusive proof to back up the WW2 tune that began: "Hitler has only got one ball, the other is in the Albert Hall."
A document noting a conversation in the 60s between German war doctor Johan Jambor and his priest that's recently come to light detailed the specifics of the injury. Historians had always know he'd been damaged in the groin during the Somme but the loss of his cajone had never actually been proven.
Friends of the doctor said he later blamed himself for saving the life of one of history's most notorious monsters:
"In 1916 they had their hardest fight in the Battle of the Somme. For several hours, Johan and his friends picked up injured soldiers. He remembers Hitler. They called him the 'Screamer'. He was very noisy. Hitler was screaming 'help, help'.
"His abdomen and legs were all in blood. Hitler was injured in the abdomen and lost one testicle. His first question to the doctor was: 'Will I be able to have children?'."A German medic who treated Hitler during WW1 has confirmed what the famous old song... more

By successfully running 50 metres with a bull's testicle in his mouth faster than 55 other competitors, Kiwi man John Masters won the Shepherd's Shemozzle in Hunterville, New Zealand.
The bull ball sprint was only part of the endurance competition, however. Entrants also had to chomp their way through dry Weetabix and a raw egg and wash it down with a can of beer.
Masters claimed he had never carried a bull's testicle in his mouth before (as you would) but said that the experience was "not too bad," before adding "best of all, they weren't connected to anything." he said.
And the prize for his efforts? A jacket and a bag of biscuits for his dog. Classy, buddy. Reeeeal classy.By successfully running 50 metres with a bull's testicle in his mouth faster than... more

Scientists have derived potentially therapeutic stem cells from adult, human testicles—a development that may eventually make new medical treatments possible while avoiding moral dilemmas.
Stem cell generation for individual therapies could address a wide range of ailments, including Parkinson's disease, leukemia, and spinal cord injuries.
So far, the most versatile human stem cells have come from embryos—fertilized eggs—that critics say should not be used in scientific research because they are potential humans.
A major breakthrough was made in 2006, when several research teams harvested stem cells from the testicles of adult mice.
Duplicating the feat in humans had proved elusive prior to research published online this week in Nature.
Japanese researchers announced in August that they had isolated stem cells in adult, human teeth, but the team's work was not peer reviewed.
"As you might imagine, this is a pretty significant step forward," said Chad Cowan of Harvard University's Department of Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology.
Cowan is unaffiliated with the research.
"It's very exciting that we may now have a non-ethically troubling source of pluripotent cells for humans—or at least males," he said.
The cells, which can be harvested from living men, may also remove some immunological obstacles.
"The exciting thing about this source of stem cells is that they are the patient's own and can be used to develop individual cell-based therapies that will not provoke any kind of immune reaction," Skutella said.
"That is one of the big drawbacks of embryonic stem cells: Quite aside from the grave ethical considerations, they remain a foreign body and will always create immunological problems."
Scientists hope that a similar cell source can be found in women. Scientists have derived potentially therapeutic stem cells from adult, human... more

The cells in a man's testicles may be able to do a lot more than just make sperm - they could provide any cell type in his body.
German and UK research suggests that sperm cells can be coaxed into stem cells with similar properties to those found in the embryo.
The study, in Nature, raises hopes eventually of a supply of "repair tissue" for other parts of the body.
Any ability to transform cells taken from an adult back into stem cells, and then onwards into a wide variety of tissue types, offers the chance of "personalised treatment" for patients.
Resulting brain, bone, or heart cells could be injected with no fear of rejection by the body's immune system.
It would also avoid the ethical controversies surrounding the use of cells taken from embryos.
From these, they extracted a type of cell called the "sperm precursor cell" - a type of adult stem cells with a fixed role - to become a sperm cell.
These were then manipulated chemically in the laboratory into a state more similar to cells found in the embryo, which can go on to produce all the cell types in the body.
However, it is as yet unclear whether the cells could one day be safely used in humans. The cells in a man's testicles may be able to do a lot more than just make sperm... more
