Jim Starr has never made any secret of the fact he uses cannabis. He recently presented a petition to the front door at Number 10 Downing Street, in support of a law change which would allow seriously ill people like himself, to use their pain reliever of choice.
But that was before the British police "service" removed Mr Starr from his home, distressing his wife in the process, and took him to a police station for a strip search.

THE author Julie Myerson, who threw out her cannabis-smoking teenage son and then wrote a book about it, has admitted to smoking pot herself.
“Yeah I’ve tried it,” says Myerson, 48, in an interview in today’s News Review. “I’ve only had about eight tokes in my life. But I know what the feeling is — it’s very nice.”
The admission is likely to lead to a new charge of hypocrisy against her. She has already been accused of cashing in on what for most families would be a painful and private experience.THE author Julie Myerson, who threw out her cannabis-smoking teenage son and then... more

If ever the evil that is marijuana prohibition were to be hi-lighted and proven to do exactly the opposite of what it is it was designed to achieve, this is it.
Aaron Houston from the Marijuana Policy Project tells how, buried in the latest "Monitoring the Future" survey -- the major, annual, federally funded survey of teen drug use -- there is a truly astonishing finding which drug czar John Walters is trying to hide from you. What is this astonishing fact?

According to at least one psychiatrist in the United States, "The first-line treatment for any condition, efficacy being equal, would be the drug or procedure least likely to cause harm."
"Given the benign side-effect profile of cannabis, it should be the first-line of treatment in a wide range of childhood mental disorders like ADD/ADHD" ..By Dr Tod Mikuriya MD
According to a news report published by the BBC, parents need 'educating' when it comes to dealing with their unruly off-spring who are suffering from a condition known as ADD/ADHD. This according to new government guidelines.
The report goes on to say teachers may also benefit from some form of formal training.
Its estimated there are around 365,000 thousand British children who suffer with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and experts say every single British classroom may well have at least one pupil suffering with an as yet unrecognised condition.
The majority of British children sufferring with ADD or ADHD receive no treatment at all. But around 10% of sufferer's or 37,000 children (aged 5 years and upwards) do receive treatment and in the majority of instances this prescribed treatment is Ritalin, AKA Methylphenidate.
Ritalin is a highly addictive and sometimes dangerous amphetamine-like substance which tops the "most abused prescription drugs" list in the United States, alongside pain-killer OxyContin.
Methylphenidate (MPH) is a prescription stimulant commonly used to treat Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD. It is also one of the primary drugs used to treat the daytime drowsiness symptoms of narcolepsy and chronic fatigue syndrome. The drug is seeing early use to treat cancer-related fatigue.
As always there is a flip-side to these prescription drugs, and in the case of Ritalin, substance abusers have found various ways to ingest the drug recreationally, which gives an effect similar to cocaine or amphetamine so the use of ritalin is to be closely monitored....read more!According to at least one psychiatrist in the United States, "The first-line... more

In its latest series of restrictive moves the UK Government has placed forward a proposition (Bill 316) on the prohibition of Cannabis seeds. The present legality of cannabis seeds in the UK operates against a loop-hole in the law which states that the possession of cannabis seeds in the UK is allowed, while the cultivation of the same seed is a criminal act.
This ambiguous approach to cannabis seed law has always been in place - thus allowing seed retailers to sell seeds in the UK to whom ever they wish.
Homegrown cannabis isn't going away no matter how hard the British government tries to bury it under layer upon layer of red tape and beaurocracy.
Any prohibition of cannabis seeds in the UK will of course have a negative effect. In its latest series of restrictive moves the UK Government has placed forward a... more

The war against drugs has become a battle of the classes in the United Kingdom, as once again the "Have's" prove they don't need to obey the same laws as the "Have-Not's".
Unless you've been living under a rock for the last week you will have heard about Hans Kristian Rausing and his wife Eva, who were arrested as they tried to take crack cocaine and heroin into the US Embassy in London. Mrs Rausing faced charges of possessing Class A and Class C drugs, as she was carrying the substances on her person.
Rausing, who is heir to the Tetra Pak packaging company, the son of Britains 6th richest man as well as being a personal friend of the Prince of Wales, had his expensive 5-storey mansion in prestigious Cadogan Place Chelsea, searched by the metropolitan police, who turned up 0.2oz (5.63g) of crack cocaine, 0.1oz (2.9g) of heroin and almost 1.8oz (52g) of cocaine on April 8 this year.
The solicitor for the multibillion-pound heir, Philip Smith, said that there had been a "a protracted course of correspondence from my office to the Crown Prosecution Service to enable them to make that very sensible decision."
The conditional caution means that the couple have accepted the charges along with "rehabilitative or reparative conditions" - and therefore will not face a court hearing.
They will have to sign an official document admitting to the offence, giving consent to the caution.
A record of the cautions will remain on the police national computer but the couple will not have criminal records as a result....Full StoryThe war against drugs has become a battle of the classes in the United Kingdom, as... more

As the United Kingdom gears up for an influx of new cannabis related court cases and imprisonments as a result of the impending reclassification, in the United States they have a whole different raft of cannabis problems to deal with.
In New Mexico for instance, the Department of Health is seeking public consultation on a set of draft rules which go toward licensing medical marijuana producers and distributors.
This in itself is remarkeable as here in the UK, any public consultations regarding cannabis, (such as the ACMD consultation of February 5th 08) have only ever been advertised buried deep in the Home Office website as opposed to advertised in the press for widescale distribution.
Which begs the question; are the government doing enough to "consult" the public regarding cannabis? You decide!
