TEHRAN (Reuters) – Iran failed Friday to register what it said would be the world's largest sandwich in the Guinness book of World Records after people rushed forward and began eating it -- before it was measured.
Event organizers had planned to stuff the 1,500-meter-long sandwich with 700 kg of ostrich meat and 700 kg of chicken, and display it in a park in the capital Tehran.
But as the sandwich was being measured, chaos ensued. The giant snack was gone in minutes, a Reuters witness said, leaving the three Guinness representatives present with a dilemma.
One of the event's organizers said video footage of the sandwich would be sent to Guinness officials.
"We still think the sandwich will be recorded in the Guinness book because of all the evidence and footage that we will send them," Parvin Shariati said.TEHRAN (Reuters) – Iran failed Friday to register what it said would be the... more

Phyliss Tarrant has just turned 100 and along with her husband Ralph, 105, it makes them Britain's oldest married couple with an impressive 205 years between them.
Phyliss put their long lives and long-lasting relationship down to "getting on with each other, a good diet, exercise, avoiding cigarettes and a tot of whisky each night".
Mrs Tarrant, from Broomhill, Sheffield, said: "I suppose now I'm 100 I should be counted as being old. But I don't feel it, and I've some way to go to catch Ralph up. I'm just so pleased to have retained my health, and my marbles. I am fortunate that I can still do my own housework and cooking and Ralph helps out by going to the supermarket to do the shopping."
Mr Tarrant added: "My ambition was to beat my grandmother who lived to be 103 so I'm well past that now. Quite a few of my family had very long lives so maybe it's all in the genes - it's just that we have been able to stay reasonably fit and health for our ages and still be together in our own home. Some people are not that lucky. We don't like to sit around all the time, we both like to get out and about."
The couple met in 1922 - the year the BBC began broadcasting radio to the nation - and their romance started four years later. They were married on July 8th 1933 and have two daughters Brenda, 71, and Christine, 61 as well as seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Yosemite National Park -- A Lafayette rock climber and his Japanese partner toe hooked, finger jammed and shimmied 3,000 feet straight up the nose of El Capitan Wednesday, taking from Germany the record for fastest time on the iconic route.
It means the American-Japanese climbing duo is once again in possession of a record that has become so difficult to break that some climbers think even trying for it is a reckless quest bound to eventually lead to tragedy.Yosemite National Park -- A Lafayette rock climber and his Japanese partner toe... more
