Though Brüno won’t hit theaters until July 11, the Sacha Baron Cohen comedy has already prompted extensive debate about whether it’s well-intended satire or a joke that’s poised to blow up in the face of the gay community. As polarizing as the movie has already turned out to be, Movieline has learned that the original cut of the film featured an ending that doubtlessly would have been even more controversial.

In fact, the beating at the end would've done far worse things to Bruno's lover. But what say you? As reviews have come out about this, a few people are annoyed by the "staging" of this compared to Borat.Though Brüno won’t hit theaters until July 11, the Sacha Baron Cohen comedy... more

In the wake of Michael Jackson’s death yesterday afternoon, the makers of Sasha Baron Cohen’s upcoming provocation Brüno hastily cut a scene featuring the singer’s sister LaToya prior to the premiere at Mann’s Chinese Theater. (The timing was so short notice that the cut was made in the projection booth.) Based on the reports from earlier screenings of the film, the scene feature Cohen’s flamboyant fashionista interviewing LaToya while surreptitiously scrolling through her cell phone contacts looking for Michael’s number. No word yet on whether the scene will be excised when the film hits theaters on July 10th or perhaps saved for the inevitable three-disc “unrated” DVD edition.

There's one thing you don't want to do in Hollywood - upset the gay community. And unfortunately that's just what Bruno is doing. An editorial coming from GLAAD just hit Hollywood Reporter today and a separate article on The Wrap addresses the issue as well. However, Dominic Patten of The Wrap claims that Universal and Sacha Baron Cohen actually reshot part of the movie due to pressure from prominent gay individuals in Hollywood - like director Mike White - who apparently "found the Bruno character to be a depiction of fetishism rather than a comedic stereotype." Were there really reshoots on Bruno? I doubt it.There's one thing you don't want to do in Hollywood - upset the gay... more

"Gay celebrities Jack Plotnick (actor/comedian), Peter Paige (actor "Queer As Folk"), Nick Verreos (fashion designer), Jennifer Elise Cox (actress/comedian), and Brian Graden (LOGO network founder) express concern about the impact of Sacha Baron Cohen's film "Bruno", about a flamboyant Austrian Gay Fashionista who comes to America.
While some hail Cohen's "Bruno" as a brilliant device to tackle the subject of homophobia, others see "Bruno" as a kind of gay "Blackface". Stereotypes embodied Blackface played a significant role in cementing and proliferating racist images, attitudes and perceptions worldwide.
Sacha Cohen, who is straight, created "Bruno" as part of the Ali G Show. He has not made public his personal views on LGBT issues, leading to his having little, if any, moral standing on which to caricature an oppressed group which struggles for the right to marry, serve in the military, employment security, immigration, and even their own lives as they are killed for striving to live as part of the global LGBT community."
quote from the clip:
"It's interesting. When you see a Bruno clip in a room full of gay men everyone laughs and it's fun. When you see a Bruno clip in a room full of straight men, they're all laughing and it's a different thing. And you start to go, 'Hmmm, I don't know how I feel about this.'""Gay celebrities Jack Plotnick (actor/comedian), Peter Paige (actor "Queer... more
