Are you a Star Wars fan who’s into Call of Duty? This might be some of the coolest news you have ever read. German modding outfit, Black Monkeys have created an awesome Star Wars-themed mod for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
After 2 ½ years of development, the team is now ready to bring you Galactic Warfare a Star Wars-themed 'mod' for Call of Duty: Modern warfare. In fact, this is as good a reason as any to give Call of Duty a try if you have previously been on the fence about playing it.
This awesome mod is a total conversion of all the environments, weapons and even the characters. It’s all re-skinned to fit the theme and story of the Star Wars universe. You can choose the Imperial Forces and become a trooper or be a solider of the Rebel Alliance. There are seven great maps to deathmatch over but you’re going to need the PC version of CoD: Modern Warfare (if you already own the game, you can just download it).
Check it out yourself in this video trailer seen above

The latest twist in the Australian videogames rating saga is a curious proposal by South Australia to upgrade all MA15+ rated games to R18+.
Posted Image
Australian games enthusiasts have been waiting a long time for ratings reform, as the current lack of a proper R18+ rating means many games are censored to meet MA15+ standards (the highest current rating).
It was thought that the new South Australia Attorney-General John Rau may pave the way for reform, as he replaced the notoriously anti-gaming Michael Atkinson.
Instead, Rau has said that regardless of how discussions at the forthcoming meeting of the Standing Committee of Attorneys-General go, South Australia will simply scrap the MA15+ rating and slap an R18+ on everything instead. This would open the door to uncensored R18+ games, but also brand a great many games that are currently suitable for 15 year olds and over as only available to those over 18.
Opposition spokesman Stephan Wade isn't impressed with the idea, suggesting South Australian retailers would suffer if the region were to act on the proposals: "It would be clearly an unfair impost on South Australian retailers at a time we are very aware of the competition between the online retail marker and the shopfront retail market."The latest twist in the Australian videogames rating saga is a curious proposal by... more

Bungie is hiring Video game designers PlayStation 3 and mobile/server engineering positions
"Take Our Jobs...If You Dare!"
New PlayStation 3 and mobile/server engineering positions
If that sounds like you, please send a resume to careers@bungie.com and include the position for which you are applying in the subject line of the email (or you can use the job-specific email links included in the positions to the left).
Don’t forget to include samples of your work (attached files or URLs are great), which clearly demonstrate your artistic proficiency in a specific area. For example, if you’re applying for a character artist position, we’d love to see your strongest character work up front versus paging through several environment and vehicle shots before arriving at your gruesomely cool monsters. Detailing how your reel is broken down is also paramount; we want to know what you did and how you did it. Finally, please be sure to put your best, most polished and approved work forward. We look forward to checking it out!Bungie is hiring Video game designers PlayStation 3 and mobile/server engineering... more

A Dead Space 2 viral campaign launching this weekend took plenty of chutzpah, I'll give it that. Electronic Arts brought in 200 middle-aged mothers under the auspices of a focus group looking at a new game. They were, aptly, horrified.
Four videos that released yesterday show moms walking into a conference room where they're greeted by a disembodied voice and a video monitor. They then watched some of the worst Dead Space 2 has to offer. All of this goes into a campaign called "Your Mom Hates Dead Space 2." Which implies you're going to love it.
I cringed throughout the four one-on-one videos, not because of what they were watching but because put-ons like this involving unsuspecting victims always make me feel a little bad for them. I was always the guy hanging up before someone could tell me whether or not his refrigerator was running.
But the moms are tough ladies. They take it like pros and it seems their disgust for the game is genuine (well, Celestine, "No. 0124" seems to bear it in a slasher-flick/rollercoaster way.) Video links below.

I'm a PhD researcher in Computer Science, and I research game technology at the Expressive Intelligence Studio (http://eis.ucsc.edu/). I get to experience games from the science to the consumption, and there is a lot that most people don't get to see. No event captures the communities behind the products better than the annual Game Developers Conference (http://www.gdconf.com).
People from all different vocations from all over the world at all different points in their career gather for one week to discuss innovations and future directions of video games. There is so much collaboration and sharing of creative and expressive endeavors through interactive media, and at GDC, you get to meet people from all the big companies as well as the independent developers. It's a diverse and friendly community of creative thinkers, artists, musicians, programmers, designers, and so much more.
This video follows the story of the game developer community and shows the faces behind the products. These faces are diverse in gender, race, nationality, profession, and age, all advancing the forefront of video games. Hopefully, seeing games as more than just consumable products helps to show the amazing process that goes into creating them.
I've dedicated my career towards researching and developing technology on the expressive potential of interactive media. For more information about the significance, future directions, and the inevitably magnificent technology of video games see my blog post: http://www.delawarereclaim.com/2010/02/24/video-games-rated-m-for-mature/I'm a PhD researcher in Computer Science, and I research game technology at the... more

Anyone who says BioShock didn’t need a sequel is a liar. The fact the first game was such a huge success may have been a surprise, but all it really meant was that a follow-up would do just as well, if not better, at retail. Almost as soon as it was announced, BioShock 2 was unfairly tagged with a stigma that it would never live up to the original. Ken Levine stepping away from the project added fuel to the fanboy fire, and it seemed like the sequel’s chances of recreating the magic that was the original BioShock were fading. Even I was afraid this return to Rapture would be end up like the Matrix sequels, where it wouldn’t just be a let down, but it would also tarnish the original. That was, of course, before I got my hands on the actual game. After playing through the story, not only was it clear that 2K has a tremendous amount of love and respect for the franchise, but they’ve also made one hell of a game.Anyone who says BioShock didn’t need a sequel is a liar. Gamervision got an exclusive look at this uncut version of the original Mass Effect 2 sex scene between Shepard and Miranda. This is the scene that would have wound up in the game, but EA was trying to maintain "M" rating, rather than the "AO" that the ESRB would have stamped on Mass Effect 2 had this scene stayed in the game as is. This footage has found its way from the cutting room floor and into our recently-very-hairy hands. Seriously, try to not touch yourselves while you watch this. I know I c...

Valve inspires its fans to do crazy things. Take Eric Ruth, who's made it his personal mission to recreate Left 4 Dead from scratch in the context of a top-down, 8-bit action game. So far, Ruth has finished the first campaign of the original Left 4 Dead, the hospital-based No Mercy, but he's aiming to release a completed product, spanning all four campaigns and including all of the special infected, around January 4. He's pretty much building the whole project by himself.
"Valve doesn't know about it yet," wrote Ruth on his YouTube page, "but I'm sure (with their love of community creations) that they will find this mildly amusing at worst, and hilarious at best."

So far, the slightly embiggened (plus 0.75 inches) DSi is only destined for Japan, and it's targeted at geezers who want a slightly bigger screen. Since it's gonna be the same price, we're guessing all of the other specs—like display resolution, even—will be the same, if this thing comes out. And again, since we're talking about Nintendo here, it doesn't slay us with surprise. So far, the slightly embiggened (plus 0.75 inches) DSi is only destined for Japan, and... more
