I was a bit surprised when my friend Ian Kallen, one of the founding fathers of Rampage Radio sent me an email yesterday telling me that USF & USC’s lawyers have filed a petition to ban the transfer of the FM license for KUSF. It looks like they’re having a change of heart. There is also a website established to raise money to fight the transfer that you can visit at savekusf.org.I was a bit surprised when my friend Ian Kallen, one of the founding fathers of... more

New oil plume evidence uncovered
By John Couwels, CNN

St. Petersburg, Florida (CNN) -- As if the pictures of birds, fish and animals killed by floating oil in the Gulf of Mexico is not disturbing enough, scientists now say they have found evidence of another danger lurking underwater.
The University of South Florida recently discovered a second oil plume in the northeastern gulf. The first plume was found by Mississippi universities in early May.
USF has concluded microscopic oil droplets are forming deep water oil plumes. After a weeklong analysis of water samples, USF scientists found more oil in deeper water.
"These hydrocarbons are from depth and not associated with sinking degraded oil but associated with the source of the Deep Horizon well head," said USF Chemical Oceanographer David Hollander.
Through isotopic or microscopic fingerprinting, Hollander and his USF crew were able to show the oil in the plume came from BP's blown out oil well. The surface oil's so-called fingerprint matched the tiny underwater droplet's fingerprint.
"We've taken molecular isotopic approaches which is like a fingerprint on a smoking gun," Hollander said.
BP has not commented on the latest development but in the past denied underwater oil plumes exist.
"The oil is on the surface," said BP's Chief Executive Officer Tony Hayward. "There aren't any plumes."
Yet BP's Managing Director Bob Dudley said recently, "We're all absolutely taking these ideas seriously and looking at them."
Scientists on board the university's research vessel Weatherbird II were not able to find the dissolved hydrocarbon or oil by sight. Instead the crew received sensor signatures from the equipment deployed into the water since the plumes appear to be clear.
USF is unsure on the exact size of the plumes.
"There are indications this is fairly wide spread," said the USF oceanographer. "There is probably more than one leg of this plume."
Scientist are concerned what effect the oil, not to mention the dissolvents used to break up the oil, will have on marine life.
Laboratory tests show bacteria has begun eating some elements of the dissolved hydrocarbons. But the effect on fish "is what needs to be understood," said Hollander. "We are in unchartered territory."
Water samples collected by USF were sent to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration labs. NOAA has yet to comment on their conclusions.
NOAA and USF will hold a joint press conference Tuesday morning at the university's S.t Petersburg's campus to release their final findings.New oil plume evidence uncovered

The system uses heat from air conditioning systems to quickly heat water without using energy from the water tank itself. This is called a “hot water producing recovery product” as it uses existing products in the home. Overall the system saves 60 to 90% of hot water costs. Additionally it has no pump, electric power or adenine required, making it a low cost and high efficiency product. “If everyone in America replaced their current water heating system with the ZeroEnergy system it would reduce 6% of the nations total energy consumption,” Hebert said.
In 2003 the U.S. Department of Energy awarded the product the Highest Efficiency Package AC Unit. Compared against other water heating systems, ZeroEnergy has the lowest adjusted total cost over a 13 year period, coming in at only $1,105.
In the past three years the company has installed over 300 ZeroEnergy water heaters in the Tampa Bay Area. Hebert has also had his product installed in Hillsborough County School Systems, Universities in California, Frito Lay Companies and Military bases, including McDill Air Force Base.
Not only has Hebert created the ZeroEnergy water heating system he has also created the ERV Max energy recovery system, the Dual Source geothermal efficiency system, and the Ice Plus production optimizer. All of the systems increase production and save energy in the home and are part of a greener tomorrow.

"The University of South Florida’s School of Global Sustainability is set to be the first-of-its-kind in the nation, educating students with their world-class staff of environmental researchers and preparing them for the 2.5 million “green collar” careers that are estimated for the coming years.
USF President Judy Genshaft stated:
“The University of South Florida is committed to creating a 21st Century which is healthy, sustainable and prosperous for both Florida and for communities far beyond our borders. This school is a major step in that direction. The School of Global Sustainability will leverage USF’s existing strengths to build new opportunities for our students and faculty. We are dedicated to preparing our students to face the challenges of the world we know now and of the world that will exist in their lifetime.”
Students will be eligible for enrollment this summer, the program’s first degree being a master’s degree in global sustainability that will “initially focus on water with other concentrations being developed in such themes as food security and health, natural environments, gender, ethnicity and class, global citizenry, climate change, coastal wetlands, the history of sustainable communities and mega cities”.
Though the school will center around global issues, it will also focus on the challenges of climate change, the protection of threatened natural resources and population growth in our own backyard of South Florida and our coast.
This momentous occasion kicks off with a formal launch next week, with the school’s hosting of a two-day conference at the Marshall Student Center that will feature some of science’s leading thinkers on climate change and sustainability.
At the event there will be representatives from USF’s partner universities from around the world, including special guest Bae-Yong Lee, President of Ewha Womans University of South Korea, who will receive the President’s Global Leadership Award for her work in promoting global cooperation."...(click link to read more)"The University of South Florida’s School of Global Sustainability is set... more

Dons Crush Academy of Art, 74-23
Dior Lowhorn matched his season high with 26 points in the win.
Prior to the game, a moment of silence was held in memory of legendary former Dons coach Pete Newell, who died Monday at the age of 93. Newell coached San Francisco for four seasons beginning in 1946-47, winning an NIT championship in 1949. Newell also led California to the NCAA title in 1959 and was coach of the U.S. Olympic team that won the gold medal in Rome in 1960.You can buy all the property you want and like a pest invade San Francisco, but you... more

From 1987-1960, he lead Cal to four consecutive Pac-8 titles, and two title games, one of which he one, the one being in 1959.
He finished with a 234-123 career record as head coach.
He later on was general manager of the Los Angeles Lakers in the '70s.
He is considered the guru in basketball footwork developing it in younger players at his training camps... considered to be a coaching great.
