Ever since Anna Wintour had the good sense to separate her Vogue brand from style.com, which used-to-be the leading fashion blog, it has since suffered the slippery slope currently affecting many fashion blogs as of late. Is it me or does it seem that so many fashion blogs have become regurgitated, un-opinionated non-news? As we wind down 2010, style.com felt compelled to do a piece on The Year In Love, all about Courtney Love–known whackadoo. But not only is Courtney–who yes, has cool moments–a total loon, but in the bigger picture, she is so friggen crazy, that even her own daughter, Frances Bean, has a restraining order against her. Trust me, I have read emails and texts from her and yikes. Did you read Eric Wilson’s piece in The New York Times? I am not alone here. These are the feet at whom the fashion industry throws rose petals? This is the kind of not-on-the-planet-Earth antics that the fashion media acknowledges, suggesting she makes for a good role model? Cool is one thing, insane is another. Alienating your child is simply not cool. And to honor her as loudly as we have is indicative of how awry we have all gone. It is not just Courtney. If this is who we deem worthy of unending praise, then it is time we took a long hard look in the mirror. As we enter the scary new era of Republican control of our future rights, this would not be the opportune moment to prop up lunatics reminiscent of the Jews out of Egypt, circa 1441 B.C. We have Sarah Palin, a self-proclaimed Moses type, who has gone up the mountain to chat with God and will surely come back with a newer, more stringent version of the Ten Commandments which she will use to govern us by. “Though shalt not honor nut-bags,” should be on the top of that list.

A fashion designer and a landscape architect were asked to create an eco-friendly cross-over work of art for the Amsterdam Center for Architecture. What they came up with was a "living" dress created from wool and bicycle innertubes. The innertubes create a smocked effect which is, in actuality, a series of vases that can be filled with whatever type flower or plant you desire. Change the flowers, and you change the entire look of the gown. This is obviously not something the average fashionista is going to hang in her closet, but as a work of art, it's an astonishingly beautiful reminder that anything can be reused. These bicycle innertubes could have gone into a landfill, but instead are helping to sustain life and bring beauty into the world.

Burn Notice is one of my favorite shows. Spies, comedy, romance, suspense, shoot 'em ups, and, of course, Mr. Bruce Campbell (in case you haven't noticed, I love me some Bruce). I have taken it upon myself to find Fiona's wardrobe. Obviously, I don't have the budget USA has or access to their wardrobe department, but I do have access to the Forever 21 website. So there.

This purse is $109,500.00. Yeah. You read that right. This purse is worth more than six (6) times the price of my car. I could get up on my soap box right now and talk about how that is a criminally insane amount of money to spend on an accessory; how there are starving children and homeless puppies, or that money could be better spent fixing the oil leak, or whathaveyou. Or that you shouldn't measure your worth (or anyone else's) by a handbag, coffee cup, or mode of transportation, but I won't. I will say this: Perspective, people. Get some.

So, the Fall fashion trends are starting to trickle in, which means it's 107 degrees and I'm looking at wool coats and scarves. I think my body temperature just went up another ten degrees, simply from suggestion. According to Harpar's Bazaar, It seems that the major trends this year are conservative glamour (basically, just wearing a little fur, as opposed to covering yourself head to toe in a full-on pelt) and urban chic (architectural, clean lines, minimalist). Also, bright, mismatched colors and patterns, but I didn't see that one as much.

The drawings are like any other, showing off ensembles by Thom Browne, Comme des Garcons and various other fashion designers of note. What sets these fashion pieces apart are the models.

----The miniskirt is a skirt with a hemline well above the knees ( generally 20 cm , or more , above knee level ).
The mini was the defining fashion symbol of "Swinging London" in the 1960s.
The miniskirt's existence in the 1960s is generally credited to the fashion designer Mary Quant who was inspired by the Mini Cooper automobile, although the French designer André Courrèges is also often cited as its inventor (the French referred to it as la mini-jupe), and there is disagreement as to who invented it first.
Some give the credit to Helen Rose who made some miniskirts for actress Anne Francis in the 1956 science fiction movie forbidden-planet.
Recently, Marit Allen, a Vogue "Young Ideas" editor at the time, has stated that "John Bates, in particular, has always been completely unappreciated for his contribution to the innovation and creativity he brought to the London design scene." He bared the midriff, used transparent vinyl and, Marit Allen asserts, was responsible for "the raising of the hemline. It was John Bates, rather than Mary Quant or Courrèges, who was responsible for the miniskirt."
Bates' costumes and accessories for Diana Rigg as Emma Peel in the ABC TV series, The Avengers, from 1965-7, helped to define "Mod style".
As The Avengers' filmed episodes were made several months before screening, Avengers producer Brian Clemens confirmed in interviews that the miniskirt designed by Bates had to be used as a "gamble", since they did not know if it would catch on in public or be seen as a fashion failure by the time the episodes aired .
However, Emma Peel's fashions were accepted by the public and even spawned a line of replicas of her clothes for public sale.
Another, more "immediate" proponent of the miniskirt on television was Cathy McGowan, who introduced the weekly rock music show, Ready Steady Go! (1964-66).
