For decades, the media has influenced public perception of Italian Americans; painting them as mobsters, gangsters, and most recently, as wild, party-going narcissists. VC2 producers Lou Rinaldi and Erick Kwiecien set out to see if the stereotypes have any truth in them. Their journey took them up and down the east coast, where they interviewed strangers, family members, and officers in the largest Italian-American service organization in the USA.For decades, the media has influenced public perception of Italian Americans; painting... more

What do you think a person with a severe disability looks like? If the image that comes to mind is a person who uses a wheelchair for mobility, than you're not alone. But here are the facts: over 33 million people in the United States have a severe disability. Of those 33 million, only 10 million use assistive devices such as a wheelchair, cane, crutch or walker. In other words, over 67% of the Americans with severe disabilities do not use any devices. So you can't judge a person's disability by whether or not the person looks disabled. It is "invisible."
Our daughter Brianna saw your contest on Current TV and asked what I thought about her doing a piece on discrimination. She felt that this was the perfect chance to share our family's story and I couldn't have agreed more. Brianna wrote to her friend's uncle, Marty Langford, asking him to help tell her story. Brianna wanted the pod to reflect who she was, a little silly, a little dramatic and a whole lot of inspiring! She didn't want to do anything too emotionally heavy, believing that laughter can be just as powerful as tears when it comes to empowering change in people perceptions, challenging them to look harder. Brianna's goal is to make people aware of the unconscious cruelty in the ignorance of people's treatment because of pre-judging a healthy appearing person. What do you think a person with a severe disability looks like? If the image that... more

being a middle class white male is often considred the american dream right.. wrong
in america we have many exclusive organizations based on race, the naacp, lulac, the united negro colledge fund and others. all of these assosiations are respected and allowed to carry on and not be bothered but if some one was to form a national league of white middle class men there would be an outcry of criticizm. why because it would be considered racist and unconstitutional. i agree that in the past as well as in the present anglo americans have treated other races as inferior or even forced them into slavery. this was wrong and ignorant but now i think we should illiminate the phrase minority and try to focus on the only race that matters the human race. piggment differences in our skin should not reflect on the way we treat one annother. everyone knows that all races have produced great humanitarians, che guivara, martin luther king, guandi, john lennon and others. we should fallow the lead of these great men and try to live in harrmony.being a middle class white male is often considred the american dream right.. wrong... more

Shujat Jafri is a struggling artist because he is disabled by birth with a fits problem. A fit is basically a time, when the communication between the brain and body disrupts for few seconds. Usually the fits last 15 to 20 seconds and during the fits, Shujat cannot control his body at all, he can see and hear but nothing is in his control in order to move his body.
He has been learning Sculpture making and point or dot work art for last 10 years at least. Now after such a long time he has become adept in his art. He has won national and international awards and prizes in dot work paintings. Despite of his disability, he never took it as a obstruction in his learning path or every day life. He is facing this challenge with complete confidence and as a friend I admire his hard work and struggle all along his life.
He has been invited over different Television channels for interviews in Karachi, Pakistan for his achievements in his art. Local newspapers has printed his achievements story several times. I am his friend and I always encouraged him. This documentary is also a sort of encouragement for him because I want his dream to come true to become a successful artist.
I want to see him happy and prosperous and hopefully with a great wife, which he thinks is not going to happen because since he is disabled, no girl would marry him. Shujat Jafri is a struggling artist because he is disabled by birth with a fits... more
