This item level barcode will be scanned by mobile phones to tell the consumer about the farmer, whether the produce is locally grown (including a map showing the location of the farm as compared to their current location based on their cell phone's GPS ), and anything else the consumer is interested to know about that produce item. Consumer reviews of fresh produce will be available to shoppers and chefs alike.

"The other day, I went on a short tour of some of Microsoft’s Labs, where they do everything from rapid prototypes of new products to acoustic testing in anechoic chambers. Most of my time was spent in the Applied Sciences group’s labs, where they are working on some seriously interesting devices. And they’re not just into mice; in fact, the lab’s specialty seemed to be anything to do with optics and/or input. This lab worked on Project Natal, and also on the pressure-sensitive keyboard I wrote about a while back.
They were kind enough to show me all these crazy multi-touch mice, and, when I was too inept to demo even one of them solo, offered to go through them with me on video. Remember that none of these devices are final in any way! The side mouse, for instance, would be much smaller if it were a product, and these weren’t really sculpted at all to fit in your hand."

The future of Internet radio appears more secure after a handful of online stations reached an agreement Tuesday to head off a potentially crippling increase in copyright royalty rates.
The deal is the product of two years of negotiations between webcasters and copyright holders. Now that Apple's (AAPL) iPhone 3.0 software includes parental controls, the iPhone App Store is selling what could be its first app with topless and "completely naked" pictures there on purpose.
Update: The app is no longer available. Presumably, Apple removed it. Not sure if this is a one-off, or if Apple is still anti-nudity.

At today’s World Copyright Summit, director Milos Forman (One Flew Over The Cukoo’s Nest, Amadeus) blasted individuals who pirate movies via the web, saying they aren’t engaging in democratic or capitalistic enterprise. What they’re “really doing is promoting a communist ideology,” he said. Forman was the keynote speaker at the summit, which (as the name implies) focuses on protecting creators’ rights. Piracy was a huge topic at the event, and Forman blasted the ethos behind it. “Pirates also think everything on the Internet should be free,” he said. “But that is like going into a department store or supermarket, and just because you got a shopping basket for free, everything in the basket should be free, too.” OK, that’s boilerplate (and quite legit) anti-piracy screed.
