Many world leaders have applauded Barack Obama's election victory. European Commission President José Manuel Barroso used the occasion to call for a 'new deal' between the United States and the rest of the world in order to solve problems such as the credit crisis.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy wrote a letter to Mr Obama congratulating him on his "brilliant victory". "By choosing you the American people have chosen change, openness and optimism." Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende also sent congratulations to Senator Obama, who he said faces a "challenging" term in office. The Dutch prime minister pointed to the financial crisis, climate change, the war against terrorism, human rights and free trade.
Chinese President Hu Jintao sent his best wishes, saying he hoped bilateral ties would be taken to a new level. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called on the US president-elect to speed up the Middle East peace process. The radical Hamas movement called on Mr Obama to end what it described as the mistakes of previous administrations in dealing with the Muslim world.
Kenya, where Senator Obama's father was born, has declared Thursday a public holiday. President Mwai Kibaki said because of Senator Obama's Kenyan roots his victory was also a victory for Kenya. "I am confident that your presidency shall herald a new chapter of dialogue between the American people and the world at large."Many world leaders have applauded Barack Obama's election victory. During a 73 minute period on 9/12/06 at one corner of Nieuw Markt (a nice open square in Amsterdam), I took the following 82 pictures of bicycles. Why? Because sitting there I noticed how remarkably different the whole Amsterdam bicycle scene was from my home, and at the same time certain very clear "Amsterdam Bicycle Trends" appeared I thought might be interesting to point out. I am from the San Francisco area, California, USA.During a 73 minute period on 9/12/06 at one corner of Nieuw Markt (a nice open square... more

Scientific studies proving that Prozac encourages psychopathic behavior and suicidal tendencies in young people are voluminous. Red Lake High School killer was on Prozac. "The Uni bomber", Michael McDermott, John Hinckley, Jr., Byran Uyesugi, Mark David Chapman and Charles Carl Roberts IV, the Amish school killer, were all on SSRI Psychotropic Drugs.
Our media does not report that killer,Steven Kazmierczak, Northern Illinois University shootings, had been taking Psychotropic Drugs. Columbine shooters Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, as well as 15-year-old Kip Kinkel, the Oregon killer who gunned down his parents and classmates, and Cho Seung Hui, the Virginia Tech killer, were all on Psychotropic Drugs.
This is an ever-repeating story in America. Everyone seems befuddled each time like it will never happen again and it must have been a failed school system, a bad parent video games or perhaps an odd song. While these may be contributing factors, we should be open to investigating all possible causes. Our US "News" media never whispers any hint of possibility of side effects of these legal drugs being a possible part of the cause.
Imagine a cocktail of these drugs in American "troubled teens" and prisoners. This is common in our vastly over-medicated American society. The problem is often combined with other seemingly harmless drugs that often have serious confusion and violence producing side effects. Many people take 5 or more medications at the same time. This is considered a good thing in the US.
Add this to a population who are missing critical components of their diets. UK Prisons are cutting violent behaviour by a third by simply correcting that deficiency. These are in placebo controlled double blind studies conducted right now with Oxford College. http://current.com/items/88895089_uk_prison_research_nu...
If Senator Obama, as our next United States President, is not whipped to his knees by the Powerful Health "Care" Industry, he could clear prisons and youth detentions drastically in the USA within a year, maximum. He stated in his speeches that he will integrate Prevention as a way to cut costs. Time will tell. Scientific studies proving that Prozac encourages psychopathic behavior and suicidal... more

Hello
By the narrowest of margins, we lost our chance to elect John Kerry president in 2004 and cut short the disastrous course of the past 4 years.
In 2000 and 2004, just a small difference in voter turnout would have made the difference. This time around, that difference could be you.
That's why I'm asking you to consider taking the day off to volunteer on Election Day -- Tuesday, November 4th -- to help carry Barack Obama to victory.
I know that this isn't possible for everyone, but if you can, I'd like for you to sign up to get out the vote on Election Day so that we can finally bring the change this country needs.
With so much at stake, your phone calls or door knocking could be the difference between setting our country back on the right path or another four years of dangerously irresponsible policies.
The passion and enthusiasm of Barack's movement for change is so exciting, and so important. But it will only count if we turn that passion into votes on Election Day.
And as strong as we are right now, it could still come down to a few votes in one or two battleground states.
It's up to each of us, right now, to commit to doing everything we can.
We're hoping you are able to give one day. You can help make history in this election, please go to http://my.barackobama.com/theday.
Thank you,

"This is outrageous. Bush wants taxpayers to give his administration a $700 billion check with no strings attached, which they'll hand over to the Wall Street firms that got us into this financial mess.
Would it help families struggling to keep their homes? NO. Do taxpayers get any share of the firms we're bailing out, so we can benefit from any eventual profit? NO. Would the firms we're bailing out be required to stop paying their executives multimillion-dollar salaries? NO. This is a pure giveaway.
I signed a petition urging Congress to put Main Street before Wall Street, and to not give Bush a blank check. Can you join me at the link below?

The following is a series of quotes about brain imaging from Thomas Insel, MD, PhD, Director of the National Institute of Mental Health, the country’s chief psychiatrist, from a keynote lecture at the American Psychiatric Association’s Annual Meeting in 2005 in Atlanta.
"Brain imaging in clinical practice is the next major advance in psychiatry."
"Trial and error diagnosis will move to an era where we understand the underlying biology of mental disorders."
"We are going to have to use neuroimaging to begin to identify the systems pathology that is distributed in each of these disorders and think of imaging as a biomarker for mental illnesses."
"The DSM-IV has 100%reliability and 0% validity. We need to develop biomarkers, including brain imaging, to develop the validity of these disorders."
"We need to develop treatments that go after the core pathology, understood by imaging."
"The end game is to get to an era of individualized care."
Dr. Insel believed in 2005 that brain imaging in clinical practice would be a reality in 5 years. Amen Clinics, Inc. (ACI) thinks that brain imaging in clinical practice is long overdue. You can try to kill yourself in virtually every major city in the world, and no one will look at your brain! ACI has been working hard to bring brain imaging to those in need. Over the past 16 years we have developed a database of nearly 40,000 brain SPECT scans. We have more experience in applying this technology than anyone in the world.
Please enjoy our website, and always work toward a brain healthy life.

In last week’s article about the ineffectiveness of statin drugs in reducing mortality in most populations I promised I would follow-up with an article on drug-free prevention of heart disease. I will do that this week, but it occurred to me that the first article in this series should have been one that dispels the myth that cholesterol causes heart disease. Understanding that is the key to the prevention strategies that will follow in the next article. So without further ado…
You are all no doubt acquainted with the popular hypothesis on cholesterol and heart disease. It has two parts: first, that eating cholesterol in the diet raises cholesterol levels in the blood; and two, that high cholesterol levels in the blood cause heart disease.
You might be surprised to learn that neither of these statements is true. The first one is relatively easy to dispatch. In the Framingham Heart Study, which is the longest-running and perhaps most significant study on heart disease done to date, it was demonstrated that intake of cholesterol in the diet had absolutely no correlation with heart disease. If you look at the graph below, you’ll see that both men and women with above average intake of cholesterol had nearly identical rates of heart disease as men and women with below average intake of cholesterol. In last week’s article about the ineffectiveness of statin drugs in reducing... more

I learned today that Barack Obama is about to cross an incredible milestone. Nearly 2,000,000 Americans have made a contribution and joined his campaign for President.
This is an extraordinary moment for our nation. Barack Obama is proving that successful campaigns don't have to depend on Washington lobbyists, but instead can rely on millions of Americans joining together to fight for a cause they believe in.
I think it would be a powerful statement if the members of AlGore.com helped put Barack Obama over the 2,000,000-donor mark. You can make a contribution to his campaign today by visiting:
https://donate.barackobama.com/twomillion
Barack Obama, because of his incredible campaign, has a unique understanding of what it means to lead a movement of people committed to improving our country. He knows that change will not come from Washington, but will come instead from millions of people joining together and taking action.
Today you can help expand the movement to elect Barack Obama President, by making a contribution and growing his campaign to 2,000,000 donors.

I wanted to share with you the Alliance for Climate Protection’s new ad that will begin airing across the country today:
Our dependence on foreign oil, the climate crisis, and the problems facing our economy are all linked – but so are their solutions.
As Cathy Zoi, CEO of the Alliance for Climate Protection wrote:
“Switching now to clean energy sources will revitalize our economy -- we can be global leaders in developing and manufacturing clean energy technologies. It will enhance our national security -- reducing the pressure on our troops to protect oil supplies and avoiding the worst climate impacts in politically unstable regions of the world. It will make high gasoline prices less of a burden in our daily lives -- enabling us to transition to clean plug-in hybrid electric cars. It will help solve the climate crisis -- if we fail to act soon, the consequences for our children will be dire.”
Please watch the ad, and then share it with your friends.

Except for New Zealand, no other country in the world allows manufacturers to market prescription drugs directly to consumers.
And in addition to the serious health-related issues these ads evoke, many viewers find them annoying, distasteful, or just plain depressing. The manufacturers jam-pack prescription drug commercials into certain TV programs, most notably the national network evening news broadcasts.
How lovely it would be to sit back and allow the anchorperson to deliver the latest stories—unpunctuated by reminders that osteoporosis, bladder control problems, and erectile dysfunction lurk in the future. TV-watchers who already take the medications for those conditions might not particularly appreciate being forced to think about them every night at 6:30 either."
I personally think people who knowingly allow and promote the sale of dangerous drugs and squelch life saving information: media, doctors, pharmaceutical companies, FDA should be tried for mass murder. There has been a systematic cover up of critical information about side effects and lack of effectiveness, by these parties. There has also been a systematic squelching of good information about Preventive Health such as lifestyle changes and supplements.
It sounds like science fiction but it is not unfortunately.

It's the American thing to do!
Homework: : )
Neil Young's song "Let's Impeach the President for Lying"
should be our chant until the Iraq Occupation for oil stops and GW Bush and his puppet master Dick Cheney's butts are out of our United States President's Oval Office. We should learn these lyrics (below) and march the streets like this great and inspiring protest march last summer in Kennebunkport, Maine.
cg
I am going to record this song on my old cassette player now and try to get time to bring it down where people are already walking and jogging on our Baxter Boulevard in Portland.,... a few handouts of the lyrics and we have perpetual march..I personally might not have time though...I'll try to set it up and be there though tomorrow in Portland ME at Baxter Blv...if I can make it.

Now that it is finally coming out on the mainstream media that antidepressants and children's cough medicine are bad news, maybe in another 10 years the USA will kindly let its citizens know that bad diet and nutrition are a big part of the problem in both violence and depression and health problems and obesity..I knew about problems with antidepressants in Britain.10 years ago with a quick internet search but I was told by my MD to shut up and go with the flow or be a neglectful parent., I also knew about the benefits of Omega 3 and supplements from a lab study in Oxford and Harvard
....It has been like a nightmare watching my community fall for this nonsense...I am hopeful for a "Change" but am not sure it will happen yet. ..the dynamics are still not changing ..I hope I am wrong.

Research with British and US offenders suggests nutritional deficiencies may play a key role in aggressive behavior...USA would be wise to use this on our prisons.
Felicity Lawrence
Tuesday October 17, 2006
The Guardian
That Dwight Demar is able to sit in front of us, sober, calm, and employed, is "a miracle", he declares in the cadences of a prayer-meeting sinner. He has been rocking his 6ft 2in bulk to and fro while delivering a confessional account of his past into the middle distance. He wants us to know what has saved him after 20 years on the streets: "My dome is working. They gave me some kind of pill and I changed. Me, myself and I, I changed."
Article continues
Demar has been in and out of prison so many times he has lost count of his convictions. "Being drunk, being disorderly, trespass, assault and battery; you name it, I did it. How many times I been in jail? I don't know, I was locked up so much it was my second home."
Demar has been taking part in a clinical trial at the US government's National Institutes for Health, near Washington. The study is investigating the effects of omega-3 fatty acid supplements on the brain, and the pills that have effected Demar's "miracle" are doses of fish oil.
The results emerging from this study are at the cutting edge of the debate on crime and punishment. In Britain we lock up more people than ever before. Nearly 80,000 people are now in our prisons, which reached their capacity this week.
But the new research calls into question the very basis of criminal justice and the notion of culpability. It suggests that individuals may not always be responsible for their aggression. Taken together with a study in a high-security prison for young offenders in the UK, it shows that violent behaviour may be attributable at least in part to nutritional deficiencies.
The UK prison trial at Aylesbury jail showed that when young men there were fed multivitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids, the number of violent offences they committed in the prison fell by 37%. Although no one is suggesting that poor diet alone can account for complex social problems, the former chief inspector of prisons Lord Ramsbotham says that he is now "absolutely convinced that there is a direct link between diet and antisocial behaviour, both that bad diet causes bad behaviour and that good diet prevents it."
The Dutch government is currently conducting a large trial to see if nutritional supplements have the same effect on its prison population. And this week, new claims were made that fish oil had improved behaviour and reduced aggression among children with some of the most severe behavioural difficulties in the UK.
Deficiency
For the clinician in charge of the US study, Joseph Hibbeln, the results of his trial are not a miracle, but simply what you might predict if you understand the biochemistry of the brain and the biophysics of the brain cell membrane. His hypothesis is that modern industrialised diets may be changing the very architecture and functioning of the brain.
We are suffering, he believes, from widespread diseases of deficiency. Just as vitamin C deficiency causes scurvy, deficiency in the essential fats the brain needs and the nutrients needed to metabolise those fats is causing of a host of mental problems from depression to aggression. Not all experts agree, but if he is right, the consequences are as serious as they could be. The pandemic of violence in western societies may be related to what we eat or fail to eat. Junk food may not only be making us sick, but mad and bad too.
