The fifteen percent rule established by the Commission on Presidential Debates says that you need at least fifteen percent in polls before you can be included in the debates. Problem is, not only is fifteen a bit high, but Ross Perot got into the debates with only seven to nine percent in polls. This led him to become way ahead in polls. Barr polled at around six percent in 2008, yet he was not included. Most Democrats and Republicans wanted to see him, and to a lesser extent Nader, in the debates.
Maybe the Democrat and Republican led CPD didn't want a three or four way election? Even if Barr and Nader are on the fringe, I think it should have been for the American people to decide, not the media. Numerous people stated that they didn't know much about Barr. The fifteen percent rule established by the Commission on Presidential Debates says... more

Gary E. Johnson is the former governor of New Mexico, and candidate for the 2012 Republican Party nomination. He'll likely lose, but if he dose lose, I hope that he'll switch over to the party that really stands up for his political opinions: the Libertarian Party. I think he has the potential for sticking it to the two major candidates, possibly sucking away some votes from both, in 2012.Gary E. Let's celebrate Bush's last day in office by looking back on how much he has screwed over our nation and the American people. First, he was made President by five electors, when Gore got half a million more popular votes. Then, he got us into an unnecessary war, and got the PATRIOT Act signed into law in a time of post-9/11 paranoia.
Also, I'd like to take a second and say "bye bye asshole."Let's celebrate Bush's last day in office by looking back on how much he has... more

West Ridge Academy is a place in Utah where kids are sent to be "rehabilitated" of behavioral problems, think of that book "Holes" and you have a good idea of what it's like. A better word to describe it would be "gulag" or "joycamp" (a word from Nineteen Eighty-Four."
The website I provide in the blog, "Mormon Gulag," shows the dark side of the camp.
Note that this in no way means anything bad against Mormons as a whole. To call all Mormons evil and backwater for Prop 8 or West Ridge Academy is just like calling all Muslims terrorists.West Ridge Academy is a place in Utah where kids are sent to be... more

Have you ever wondered why a woman takes her husband's name when she gets married? Have you wondered where "giving away the bride" came from? Well, I cover some of those things in this non-political blog. I criticize some aspects of marriage, mostly the subject of the name change. I expose that tradition for what it really is.Have you ever wondered why a woman takes her husband's name when she gets... more

Prolefeed in George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four was literature, music, and movies used to enfeeble the lower class, the proles. Celebrity gossip tabloids and other bits of stupidity like that can be seen as an allegory to this. The lower classes are fascinated by the antics of Christina Aguilara or Kim Kardashian, people who wouldn't give you or I a second of their time, under most circumstances.
People who are obsessed with the gossip column of a magazine seem emotionally immature to me. Their lives are so mundane or uninteresting that they worship and revere people they don't even know. Celebrities are definately not to be worshipped. They are people just like you and I, and they deserve their privacy. The media does nothing to help the situation. Networks like E! simply escalate the problem, by giving celebrities and others their own fancy little reality show, thus adding fuel to the celebrity obsession fire.
Put down that People Magazine, and pick up something intelligent, like TIME or Reason Magazine. Sure, it's entertainment, but there are other, slightly more logical things you can be entertained by. Celebrity personal lives are not entertainment - football is entertainment. Video games are entertainment.Prolefeed in George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four was literature, music, and... more

The Libertarian Party is small, but libertarianism is not as small. There are millions of libertarian Democrats and Republicans, who don't realize that they're libertarians. They vote for the lesser of two evils, content with their party like the proles in Nineteen Eighty-Four. This has to change, in my opinion.
Take the Political Compass quiz, or the World's Smallest Political Quiz. I am a left-leaning libertarian. If you show up as a libertarian on either of those, perhaps you should think about how you vote in 2012. Look at the platforms for both parties, and really think, "Hmm...do I agree with these guys?"The Libertarian Party is small, but libertarianism is not as small. There are... more

The two major parties have once again smothered the third parties. The media ignores them, they don’t have the money for nationwide campaigns, and people have to choose the lesser of two evils. I like Obama for the very fact that he’s not a conservative with a winking “hockey mom” for a Vice President. He’s the lesser of two evils though - Bob Barr is the real one I have supported.

Some people don't seem to realize what freedom is. Freedom is not something up for vote, like with proposition 8 in California. Freedom is the right to do anything that doesn't harm others, but we live in a nation where in some areas, you can't have a fence, or you need a permit to dig a hole in your front lawn, or something.
The AFA and others want to curtail freedom, under the idea that since they (Christians) are the majority in America, supposedly. I don't care if 90% of Americans vote no on gay marriage, it's still a fundamental right we have - do something that doesn't hurt others in any real way. Some people don't seem to realize what freedom is. Ron Paul may look like your creepy uncle Bill who collects teen magazines, but he is the most honest of any members of Congress, and he's perhaps the most honest politician in the 21st century. Sadly he's no longer running for president.
In this blog I generally talk about him and how much of a benefit to America he could be. He cares about the constitution, unlike the Republicans and Democrats. His views on abortion mottle my support for him though, but he believes that things such as that should be left up to the states.

The Democratic Party has screwed Hillary Clinton, in a way. Their nominations are largely decided by "super deligates" more than they're decided by the people. Because of this, Florida and Michigan only had half their deligates count, clearly showing us that democracy is a right, not a privelage, simply because they had their primaries early.
Hillary has endorsed Barack Obama in her recent speech, as a way of uniting the party together, or atleast attempting to. What do you think of this? Do you think that the decision made by the party reflects what's better for themselves, rather than what's better for America?
Hillary supports abolishing the electoral college, as well as many other things that clearly put her outside the mold of the party elite. Also, I hope she runs again in 2012. Tomorrow, Denver, Colorado will be the location for the Oligarchic National Convention, otherwise known as the "Democratic National Convention." Behind closed doors, with much help from the evil super delegates, the Obama/Biden ticket will be re-affirmed, in what is a highly unjust nomination.

Today I got a new email from my friends at the American Family Association, titled “Gay rights trump religious freedom.” It’s about the idea that same-sex marriage and gay rights somehow curtail religious freedom. It first sites how the California Supreme Court ruled 7-0 that homosexual rights trump religious freedom, in a case involving Christian doctors who withheld “unnecessary” medical care from gays and lesbians.
In the case, a lesbian woman went to a Christian fertility clinic, and the doctors refused to artificially inseminate her, soley because she was a lesbian. She sued, and the Supreme Court ended up ruling in favor of her. The email repeatedly refers to her as “the lesbian,” in a similar context to how someone may say “the dog” or “the pig.” This is more evidence that they’re intolerant and homophobic.
To me, this isn’t curtailing religious freedoms in any way, it just means that doctors have to do their job, instead of trying to be all Evangelical. A major point is that the AFA is not for religious freedom, as much as it’s all for a Christian theocracy. For example, when Keith Ellison, the first Muslim senator in the US, was sworn in with a Koran, the AFA raised a huge stink. If they were for “religious freedom,” don’t you think they’d be all for that, cheering on Keith Ellison and his rights?
In general, Republicans aren’t the ones who are that big on freedom, nor are the Democrats, just to note. They don’t seem to understand what “religious freedom” is. They have religious freedom, we all do. I have the freedom to be a blasthemer and a heretic, while you all have the right to be Christian or Muslim or Hindu, and so on. What the AFA and other organizations wants is a Christian nation, where the 50 stars of the US flag are replaced by a cross, and our first amendment rights are curtailed in favor of a “moral” society. The AFA, if they ever get into power, would ban homosexuality, catapult women into the kitchen, and force everyone to dress “modestly.”
You won’t find any racial or homophobic epithets on their site. This doesn’t mean they aren’t homophobic and intolerant. Just go to their Wikipedia article, and you’ll see how many people they have boycotted and protested, simply because their opinions differ.
I really cannot wait for my next email! I hope it’s something good.

Hey parents, ever give your kids Froot Loops? Don't do it anymore. I'll tell you why: Froot Loops have hydrogenated oil in them. Frosted Mini-Wheats don't, and I'm sure many others don't. It sickens me to a slight level when Kelloggs puts hydrogenated oil in a product marketed more towards children. Hydrogenated oil is bad - I don't know how to describe it, because the Wikipedia article is full of chemistry stuff, so if you want to know what the heck it is, I suggest you look it up yourself.
I tend to avoid products with hydrogenated oil, because often, trans fat comes along with it. Hydrogenated oils have a longer shelf-life than regular oils - Crisco is essentially pure hydrogenated oil. It has a sort of thick buttery consistency, which is a product of the hydrogenation process.
Hydrogen gas is forced through oil at high pressure in the hydrogenation process. The oils are chemically altered, and in turn, the fatty acids are transformed into trans-fatty acids, which work, in ways, to reduce good cholesterol, and increase bad cholesterol, and the large-scale consumption of trans fat can cause diabetes (di-uh-bee-tees, not di-uh-bee-tus) and obesity (duh). California will soon ban trans fat, which is good, and trans fat has been banned in Switzerland and Denmark.
Look up the facts about trans fat and hydrogenated oil. Check labels before buying products, especially if you have kids. I hope that the vile practice of using cheap hydrogenated oil ends. What we need first is a government that will stand up to the corporations, but instead, we have a government that chooses to side with the corporations, and no matter who wins in 2008, it will stay the same.Hey parents, ever give your kids Froot Loops? Don't do it anymore. I'll... more

Personally, I would love to take all the Fundamentalists, Evangelicals, and Neo-Conservatives in America, such as Pat Robertson and Ann Coulter, pack them onto a plane, and send them off somewhere where they can have their own little nation, and never bother the intelligent Americans ever again. This would be a huge miscarriage of freedom and democracy though, and I actually respect their right to say what they want, because, frankly, without them, I would have nothing to blog about.
I recently made a blog about the American Family Association, known sometimes as the "American Fascism Association." They are one of many Neo-Con organizations that have a secret goal in mind: "take power in government, and force our will on society." I'm not saying that all Christians are bad - Evangelicals and Fundamentalists are the bad ones. They're highly intolerant and rude, as one can tell by listening to the rhetoric of Pat Robertson or Randall Terry.
The American Family Association has boycotted more companies than Theodore Kaczynski, the Family Research Council makes claims about the link between homosexuality and pedophilia, and Focus on the Family supports corporal punishment and school-sponsored prayer, as well as being opposed to "militant feminism." It's safe to say that these people are backward and closeminded, as well as being highly intolerant. As mentioned before, the AFA got all uppity about a Muslim senator swearing on the Koran. Really, how does that effect you or I? It doesn't. How would someone feel if they had to swear on a document or book which they disagree with? In court, I'd hypothetically throw a big fit if I had to swear on the Bible or something.
Nobody is trying to shove Islam down our throats, just like how nobody is trying to shove homosexuality down our throats (that sounded a bit sexually explicit). In America we have something called freedom of religion, but these groups like Focus on the Family want to end all that. Focus on the Family is against gambling, and all for banning even poker, although the Bible says nothing about gambling.
I think everyone is entitled to their beliefs, but it just really bothers me when people take their beliefs and try to push it on the populace, mostly when those beliefs are intolerant and misinformed, like the beliefs held by the creators of the American Family Association, and others.
What America needs is an organization that supports freedom and democracy with the same fervor the AFA has towards establishing America as a theocracy. We already have the Southern Poverty Law Center, which monitors organizations they see as potentially being racist, as well as TheocracyWatch, an organization that seems to monitor the organizations of the religious right. Both are very benign, so what we need is an organization that will go out and find religious-right protests, and counter protest, or make petitions that directly oppose the intentions of these organizations.
Another organization I forgot to mention is Phyllis Schlaffy's "Eagle Forum," which is very strongly anti-feminist. The organization was founded in the 1960s, and the president of the organization still happens to be Ms. Schlaffy. They successfully led the fight against the Equal Rights Amendment, sadly, which would have ended the legal prejudices against women. They support constitutional amendments, like the other organizations, to protect marriage and other "family values."
We, as freedom loving Americans, should do all we can to keep these fundies out of Washington D.C. Sure many of you may say that the Liberals want to impose their agenda on the people, but atleast our agenda is freedom, equality, and logic, and not intolerance and backwardness.
By the way, the picture is from a website I foundthat just enrages me.Personally, I would love to take all the Fundamentalists, Evangelicals, and... more

The western world is in a rage of Islamophobia, largely after 9/11. What people don't realize is that Wahhabism and the Taliban don't represent a good portion of the Muslim faith. To show this, I showed how Christianity has it's own wingnuts, people such as Pat Robertson and Fred Phelps. Christianity has it's own radical organizations, comparable to Al-Quida or Abu Sayyaf. These are organizations such as the Army of God or the Ku Klux Klan.
I hope you also read a page I provide a link to at the end, called "30 Facts About Islam." Also, I strongly suggest you read a comment left by a Robertson/Falwell clone, who claims to be part of the Army of God, named Rev Spitz.
What I forgot to mention in the blog is Becky Fischer, who stated, in the film Jesus Camp, "I want to see young people who are as committed to the cause of Jesus Christ as the young people are to the cause of Islam, I want to see them radically laying down their lives for the gospel, as they are over in Pakistan and Israel and Palestine."
So, Islam is not a religion of intolerance and terrorism, like people think. The western world is in a rage of Islamophobia, largely after 9/11. What people... more
