Alright, don’t lie. You have to admit that trading Nick Swisher bummed you almost as much as losing Eric Byrnes a couple of years ago. The two are starting in new locations, but it’s Swisher that makes his Oakland debut today…as a White Sox player. No, the A’s haven’t found a way to get the fan-favorite Swisher back in green and gold, but the White Sox come into town for the 7:05pm PST start of their three game series and hopefully, the start of some winning for the Athletics...Alright, don’t lie. Gio Gonzalez recorded his first win as a Major League player, Brad Ziegler pitched his 38th consecutive scoreless inning to start a career, and Ryan Sweeney made the play of the night, but it was a veteran that powered the A’s to victory. Gio Gonzalez got his first Major League career start, unfortunately for him and the A’s, it was also his first career loss as well. The 22 year old pitcher, just called up from the Sacramento River Cats, pitched 6 innings, letting up 4 earned runs on 4 hits and 2 walks, and 1 home run while striking out 4 batters in the loss. The only problem was the first inning, where he let up a three-run homer to Rod Barajas...Gio Gonzalez got his first Major League career start, unfortunately for him and the... more

Another loss for the A’s makes it now 8 in a row, and this one has to be more frustrating for the players than the past 7. This was not only a game the Athletics HAD to win, it was one that they should’ve won. Huston Street, already in jeopardy of losing his closer’s role, blew a one run lead in the bottom of the ninth to seal the fate of the struggling A’s...Another loss for the A’s makes it now 8 in a row, and this one has to be more... more
