This song deserves to be out there!
Featuring massive beats by The Young Punx, ukulele, jews-harp, calypso rhythms, and beautiful vocal performances by Amanda Palmer of the Dresden Dolls, as well as a typically excellent contribution from Peaches, with some inspiration from Adam Ant. The video has a bit of a George Michael "too Funky" feel too it; as the stars parade their designer merkins. All including a little bit of a feminist message about pubic hair and some awesome Australian slang for "muff".

Our Current Music team has been working overtime to bring you our brand new six part music special, Embedded. Everything is set to go for our Wednesday night premiere (October 14, 11/10c), but we need your help getting the word out.
Help us Internets, you're our only hope.
But seriously, if you have a website, blog, Tumblr, MySpace, or [insert other social network profile] account that takes video embeds, now is your time.
I'll let Shana's words do the talking:
Embed Embedded is a viral game in which users get a unique embed code for a sneak peek video from our new six part music special. The user who generates the highest number of video views during a one-week period gets a limited edition poster for the show designed by legendary music artist Justin Hampton. Each week we’ll put up a new video and you have a new chance to be our mastermind of viral videos.
Log in on Current.com (Don't have an account? No worries, we support Facebook Connect!) and visit Embed Embedded. We'll post a new Embedded clip for you to embed each week. The artists featured on Embedded include Mos Def, Silversun Pickups, Ben Harper, Common, Thievery Corporation, and The Decemberists to name a few. To name a few more, you'll also catch glimpses of K'Naan, Arcade Fire, Lykke Li, Bloc Party, Amanda Palmer, Delta Spirit, Passion Pit, and Bon Iver to boot. So, expect to see embed Embedded clips from some of those folks.
And here's the cool thing -- each embed code on the Embed Embedded page is unique to you. The person with the most views on their embedded Embedded video will become the top embed user for the week, and will be showered with praise in the Current Music blog. So start embedding your unique embed code, help us spread the word, and get the opportunity to score some exclusive Embedded swag.
I'll even help you out. My bet for video views would be to embed your unique embed code on your blog, then submit the link to your blog post to Digg, Reddit, Tumblr, StumbleUpon, Yahoo! Buzz, Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter.
So what do you say, could you lend us a helping hand? Our Current Music team has been working overtime to bring you our brand new six part... more

Monday is here, and while I typically bemoan the end of a weekend, this particular Monday arrives bearing gifts in the form of Current praise from none other than Lo-fi legend Lou Barlow.
Lou is the guest editor for Magnet Magazine this week, and to kick things off they sat down for a Q&A with Barlow. On Sunday they posted a snippet from said Q&A titled, "Lou Barlow's Good Things: Current T.V."
Gasp!
This is Lou Barlow, one of the founding members of Dinosaur Jr., we're talking about here. He's responsible for Sebadoh, and The Folk Implosion! Amazing. In the post, Lou shares his experience discovering Current along with some very insightful feedback on our programming -- ranging from infoMania, Vanguard, and SuperNews! Getting into Current wasn't exactly a cakewalk for Lou, and I think his recount of the journey to eventually place us on his list of good things is a telling document.
Here's some of what he had to say:
So, now I’m hooked. I don’t mind the time bar, and the music content is way indie: Animal Collective during the hourly what’s-hot-on-the-web stats, a best-of Take-Away Show (the French web series that captures all our favorite precocious indie stars emoting in public places), a Death Cab For Cutie documentary, etc.
Based on Lou's interest in our music programming, I wonder if he's had a chance to check out some of the sneak peeks of Embedded -- our six part music special premiering Wednesday October 14th 11/10c. The show covers a wide range of artists, including Mos Def, Silversun Pickups, Ben Harper, Common, Thievery Corporation, and The Decemberists to name a few. To name a few more, you'll also catch glimpses of K'Naan, Arcade Fire, Lykke Li, Bloc Party, Amanda Palmer, Delta Spirit, Passion Pit, and Bon Iver to boot.
Current Music Presents: Embedded -- premiering October 14 11/10c on Current TV
This is just a taste, so please take the time to read his full write-up over on Magnet. If you're so inclined, do yourself a favor an check out the re-united (and touring) original members of Dinosaur Jr. If you happen to catch them on tour, say hello to Lou for us and deliver this message on our behalf:
Lou, Current is honored to be listed as one of "Lou Barlow's Good Things." Thanks for the awesome feedback.
Do you have a "How I discovered Current?" story to share? Post us a comment on this post, over here, or just submit a story to Current (Requires login via Current or Facebook Connect) and tag it "How I Discovered Current."Monday is here, and while I typically bemoan the end of a weekend, this particular... more

Over on the Current News blog, Andrew took a look at setback for MILF rebels in the Philippines. Also, Obama's UN address raises a question about whether or not it added up to anything substantial. Lastly, Manuel Zelaya returns to Honduras after being ousted, only to remain behind the gates of the Brazilian embassy. Tegucigalpa is rioting, check out his posts for raw video.

Hey, did you hear the news? We're launching a brand new show on Current TV!! It's called Embedded, and man...we're all super stoked about it.
Mos Def is coming to Current TV October 14th
Shana has the scoop over on the Current Music blog, along with some other awesome f'ing Amanda Palmer, Neutral Milk Hotel, and High School Musical news (wha?? -- ed. note: just read the post) from Peter Grumbine.

I seriously laughed myself to tears when I saw Sarah's recent "olive branch in the form of a tweet" to Justine Bateman. Here's an article to catch you up on the drama, and if you feel like lending a helping hand post a tweet with #helpmallory in it.

Comedy
Over on the Current Comedy blog Josh makes an interesting comparison between Muammar al-Gaddaffi and accidental comedy -- because nothing is funnier than a dictator who unintentionally takes to stand-up. Also up for perusal is the latest Current Virals rundown, and rather serious flooding in the southeast US conjures up rather flippant memories of TV's Step-by-Step.

Falling under Sky's 10 Minute Tales, Neil Gaiman's Statuesque confirms a very frightening fact: the man is fiendishly talented.
A man (Bill Nighy) spends his day watching a group of "living statues," he becomes enamored with one while another keeps a closer eye on him. Of course, that's not entirely accurate, but it should convince you to give the 8-minute short a shot. Granted, this may be pulled shortly, but it's entirely worth the view.
And yes, VIrginia, that is Amanda Palmer. That Amanda Palmer, who rules Twitter and plays secret shows.

You can't swing a guitar or the proverbial cat anywhere near the music industry right now and not hear someone's opinion about how artists can and should be making money on their own, with or without a label, with or without people paying for old-fashioned CDs.
I wouldn't mind fewer pie charts and boutique companies cropping up willing to "teach" bands how to do that—for a small cut, of course—and a few more artists like Amanda Fucking Palmer (her moniker of choice) willing to lay it all out like she does in this recent blog:
i ENJOY being the slightly crass, outspoken, crazy-(naked?)-chick-on-a-soapbox holding out a ukulele case of crumpled dollars asking for your money so that someone else a few steps behind me, perhaps some artist of shy and understated temperament, can feel better and maybe a little less nervous when they quietly step up and hold out their hat, fully clothed.
i am shameless, and fearless, when it comes to money and art.
i can’t help it: i come from a street performance background.
i stood almost motionless on a box in harvard square, painted white, relinquishing my fate and income to the goodwill and honor of the passers-by.
i spent years gradually building up a tolerance to the inbuilt shame that society puts on laying your hat/tipjar on the ground and asking the public to support your art.
i was harassed, jeered at, mocked, ignored, insulted, spit at, hated.
i was also applauded, appreciated, protected, loved….all by strangers passing me in the street.
people threw shit at me.
people also came up to me and told me that i’d changed their lives, brightened their day, made them cry.
some people used to yell “GET A FUCKING JOB” from their cars when they drove by me.
i, of course, could not yell back. i was a fucking statue, statues do not yell.
i did this for 5 years, and i made a living that way.
dollar by dollar.
hour by hour.
it was hard fucking work.
and for the last 10 years, i have been working my ass off in a different way: tirelessly making music, traveling the world, connecting with people, trying to keep my balance, almost never taking a break and, frankly, not making a fortune doing it. i still struggle to pay my rent sometimes. i’m still more or less in debt from my last record. i’ll lay it all out for you in another blog. it’s just math.
if you think i’m going to pass up a chance to put my hat back down in front of the collected audience on my virtual sidewalk and ask them to give their hard-earned money directly to me instead of to roadrunner records, warner music group, ticketmaster, and everyone else out there who’s been shamelessly raping both fan and artist for years, you’re crazy.
More threatening than artists talking about money, for my money, is artists talking about their feelings about money.
We worked with Amanda this spring to set up a secret Tweet-up show. She didn't pay us; we didn't pay her (that's how it goes with all our shoots and artists, by the way). We brought our cameras and she'll be in our show, Embedded, airing November 11. We're still not going to pay her for it in any way other than promotion, but she's an artist I'm proud to promote as many times as we can in as many ways as we have.

Silversun Pickups aren't the only artist on Current Music Presents: Embedded who has crossed our path before.
Last year, Swedish singer Lykke Li guest hosted the Daily Fix, our now-defunct, then-daily music show:
Now she's back for Embedded's Tour Stop segment. The daily grind of a life on the road often leaves traveling musicians with odd little pockets of time in cities they've never before visited and may never see again. But most people still have a little routine—they track down an art museum, take photographs, seek out the world's most perfect cup of coffee. Lykke Li likes to scour through thrift stores like an archaeologist, trying to divine what a town's citizens must have been like based on what clothes they left behind.
Here's a little tease of our shopping trip with her as she searched for something to wear to a show in San Francisco that night:
Watch Embedded on Current TV beginning Wednesday, October 14 at 11/10c. Our other Tour Stop artists include K'Naan, Death Cab for Cutie's Nick Harmer, Amanda Palmer and Passion Pit.Silversun Pickups aren't the only artist on Current Music Presents: Embedded who... more

The best part about my job as online producer for Current Music is that I sit right here in the heart of the department, and since January I've had a front-row seat to watch the development of a new show unlike anything you've ever seen. Embedded, premiering on Wednesday, October 14, is the kind of TV any music fan dreams of—and though you have no real reason to believe me, I swear I'm saying that first and foremost as that lucky music fan, not because I work here. (Rolling Stone also picked us as one of their 50 reasons to watch TV. In one of the weirdest but most awesome and accurate reviews I've ever read about anything, they said, “If Animal Planet had a show that captured musicians in their natural habitats, it would look like this refreshingly raw documentary series.”)
I think Embedded could hold its own even if there were a dozen shows like it on the air, but there just aren't, not on Animal Planet or even MTV for that matter. Anyone who's gotten a glimpse at the inner workings of an entertainment publication or TV show has a laundry list of sad stories about how hard it is to actually document the life of a musician, to get enough time with an artist or a new album that you can actually feel justified in making a bold pronouncement, anointing a new heir or crowning a new queen.
Embedded is a descendant of the best of Current Music's short- and long-form content, all organized around a simple, essential set of principles: Intimate. Exclusive. Access. We aren't going into each part of the special with a set idea of what the story is. Instead we start with the artists we most respect and collaborate to create opportunities where we can film them on stage and off, in the moments when most other crews are kicked to the curb or put down their cameras. We spent a week on the ground in Japan with Mos Def, perched on Silversun Pickups' shoulder as they played "Swoon" for the first time in front of a live audience, and criss-crossed the country with Common as he worked harder than a campaigning politician to prove to new and old fans just how powerful he thinks music can be.
And true to Current's own hybrid heritage, we've been (if quietly) taking the temperature of online communities as we select which artists to work with, what to ask them that won't be the same 10 questions they've heard at any album release press junket, and how to use the best and smartest information on the web to make TV like you've never seen before. Instead of waiting for a polished produced piece, we posted clips from a secret tweet-up show with Amanda Palmer within the week and dropped three a capellas with Mos performing songs from "The Ecstatic" the week before that album dropped. I'm working to stack current.com/embedded with all the extras, inside information and interaction I've always wanted as a music fan. Plus there will be some incredible interactive features you won't see anywhere else—because the brainiacs behind Current.com had to invent them.
The worst part about my job is not yet being able to tell you every single thing about what you'll see on the six parts of Embedded. But here's a little tease, and leading up to October 14, we'll have a little more, and then (the part we're really looking forward to) we'll get to hear what you think of it all.
Be sure to join the Embedded Group at current.com so you don't miss any exclusive sneak peeks.

Amanda Palmer at an intimate secret show organized using Twitter and documented by Current Music for our upcoming half-hour music series. She tells the story behind her song "Dear Old House That I Grew Up In," a rare and unreleased track she peformed on ukelele instead of her usual keyboards, while sitting on the floor -- like storytime, she said -- with fans gathered around.

We got to spend the day with Amanda Palmer for a tiny, secret show in LA. She played a set based on requests from the small audience -- about 100 people total who had followed her clues on Twitter to find the venue. We're working to get a performance clip up on Current.com -- the whole event and her inspiration for it will eventually make its way to Current TV.
One mid-shoot panic that got resolved is best summed up by our editor, @pixelflip:
The freakout for male-to-male - or female to female --er, actually 1/4" to XLR adaptor is over. The @current_music crew MacGyver 'd sumpin.
In truth we lucked out -- a church group that also uses the space where we were shooting had a bag full of cords and one of them was just what we needed to get clear audio off the soundboard. Hallelujah!

Brett Gleason's debut video 'I Am Not' combines the low end crunch and electronica of industrial music with a piano based, singer/songwriter style, garnering him comparisons to such diverse artists as Trent Reznor, Tori Amos, Amanda Palmer and Antony Hegarty. Part horror movie, part personal journey of self destructive assertion, 'I Am Not' is both inspiring and disturbing. Shot in a dark and damp New England forest on a cold December night, Brett Gleason's debut video is intriguing and unforgettable, much like the release itself.

Amanda Palmer draws a capacity crowd for a secret Tweet-up show organized only hours before. After years in the Dresden Dolls, Amanda released her first solo record, the Ben Folds-produced "Who Killed Amanda Palmer?" By forging a relationship directly with her online fans, she's been able to market the album, live shows and even herself in an exciting--if at times overwhelming--new way. She performs "Dear Old House That I Grew Up On" on ukulele and "Astronaut" on piano.

The first of a 3-part interview on Hypebot with Amanda Palmer, talking about art and the internet and fame and how easy it is to get confused where they all intersect:
"Being alone is hugely important. I've often thought that if I'd had the internet as a teenager, I may never have become a good songwriter. I think would have been too addicted to all of the wonderful possibilities online - I was a very connection-hungry kid. But that time to INCUBATE as an artist, to really spend a lot of time alone and improvising and being bored and finding ways to fill up space, that's what made me blossom creatively. It took SPACE."The first of a 3-part interview on Hypebot with Amanda Palmer, talking about art and... more
