Herman cain announces there will be another accuser this time with a 13 year affair accusation

Atlanta, Georgia (CNN) -- An Atlanta businesswoman accused GOP presidential hopeful Herman Cain of having had an affair with her that lasted 13 years, an Atlanta television station reported Monday.
"I was aware that he was married, and I was also aware that I was involved in a very inappropriate situation relationship," the woman -- identified by the station as Ginger White -- told WAGA.
The candidate upstaged his accuser's announcement, telling CNN a few minutes beforehand that her assertion was coming and was false. "This individual is going to accuse me of an affair for an extended period of time," Cain said on CNN's "Situation Room."
"It is someone that I know who is an acquaintance that I thought was a friend."
Cain said he learned about the accusation after his lawyer talked to a reporter about it.
Cain said his wife's immediate reaction upon hearing of the accusation was, "Here we go again."
He said he had no plans to drop out of the race. "Not as long as my wife is behind me and as long as my wife believes I should stay in this race, I'm staying in this race," Cain said.
"Some things are fair game, and some aren't," Cain's attorney, Lin Wood of Atlanta, told CNN in a telephone interview, adding that this was one of them. "You've got to draw the line somewhere."
He said in a statement to WAGA that "Cain has been informed today that your television station plans to broadcast a story this evening in which a female will make an accusation that she engaged in a 13-year-long physical relationship with Mr. Cain. This is not an accusation of harassment in the workplace -- this is not an accusation of an assault -- which are subject matters of legitimate inquiry to a political candidate.
"Rather, this appears to be an accusation of private, alleged consensual conduct between adults -- a subject matter which is not a proper subject of inquiry by the media or the public. No individual, whether a private citizen, a candidate for public office or a public official, should be questioned about his or her private sexual life. The public's right to know and the media's right to report has boundaries and most certainly those boundaries end outside of one's bedroom door.

By Andrew Kreig,OpEdNews – The featured guest today, Sept. 22, on my MTL Washington Update radio show will be author and retired federal judge Lillian McEwen. She will amplify on her powerful memoir of overcoming an abusive childhood in the nation’s capital to find happiness, including a tempestuous romance from the early to mid-1980s with future Supreme Court Associate Justice Clarence Thomas.

By coincidence, she served as counsel during her affair to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Joseph Biden (D-Del.), the future Vice President who in 1991 presided over the controversial Thomas confirmation hearings. By intention, Democratic and Republican senators alike arranged the schedule to leave Anita Hill’sz sexual harassment testimony largely unsupported on camera. This paved the way for Senate 52-48 approval of the nation’s second black justice — by the narrowest vote in a century.

Several important features of this interview persuade me to preview it for OpEd News in exclusive post aside from a longer one here on my Justice Integrity Project site.

First, she is a rare, if not unique position, to make news. And that’s potential trouble, big trouble, for some who might otherwise seem above the fray after all these years. That includes Justice Thomas.

Second, this is an unusual opportunity for the thoughtful OpEd News readership to get involved in judicial affairs in a way that could actually make a difference. For some, that might mean asking McEwen a pointed question live on the show. Her segment begins at 12:17 (Eastern Time), and can be heard then also on archive. For others, it might be helping ensure that her perspectives, and those like it, are part of the court of public opinion that is the last bulwark of freedom against Supreme Court and other governmental abuse.

Here’s a prediction, based on pre-show interviews and reading a half dozen books, including her memoir and those by Thomas (200&) and Hill (1997), and attending the confirmation hearings myself in 1991:

If the McEwen perspective proved credible to a wide audience Clarence Thomasz and his backers would face more trouble than they could ever have believed possible after they thwarted Anita Hill’s testimony in 1991 and then trashed her in a long-running smear campaign. Read more…

The Hague Story: Should The Papers Care So Much?

The front pages today are talking about the Hague story, where the Foreign secretary was reported to have shared a room with his aide Christopher Myers. The rumours online started to speculate if Hague was having a gay affair with his aide, which was denied in a public statement.

Was the story front page news?
Does this highlight a new aspects of the relationship between the internet and the politics news press?
What other stories should have gained more media attention?

Brief background:
It sounds like the rumours started online from Guido Fawkes, which asked why Myers was appointed as an aide, claiming a close personal relationship and saying William Littlejohn should have been Hague's aide.

"Guido believes it to be the case that it would be usual for the bill for the room – which was settled by Hague personally – to be reimbursed via the Conservative Party’s election campaign expenses. One witness told Guido that the room sharing couple’s body language at breakfast was eye opening. [...] If Hague had kept an experienced press handler like William Littlejohn as his SpAd he wouldn’t be in this situation would he? This week saw the statement by Hague about his marriage and denying the rumours made against him, along with the resignation of Myers.

"He also denied his marriage to wife Ffion was in trouble, revealing personal details in an extraordinary personal statement released yesterday.
He revealed that he and Ffion have suffered the trauma of multiple miscarriages as they try to start a family, adding that they are grieving the loss of a pregnancy this summer.
Mr Hague admitted to "occasionally" sharing hotel rooms with Mr Myers during the election, but said: "Neither of us would have done so if we had thought that it in any way meant or implied something else.""-Channel 4 news

Early reports of Myers being appointed by an aid can be found online still, here's one from the Daily Mail.
"After leaving Durham, he trained as a lawyer and worked as a constituency activist for Mr Hague. He shares Mr Hague's broad Northern vowels and his background makes him a natural addition to Mr Hague's 'Tyke Mafia'."

National Enquirer’s Obama Sex Scandal: Claims Hotel Surveillance Proves Affair

Chaos in Arizona, an oil spill the size of Rhode Island, and now this on the eve of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner: the National Enquirer published a story last night claiming that President Barack Obama was caught having an affair with a former campaign staffer at a Washington hotel, and they might have the tape to prove it.

The Enquirer claims insiders have known about the scandal and are willing to pay some serious cash for the story, and they’re so sure of it that they’ve brought out the animated .gifs:

A confidential investigation has learned that Obama first became close to gorgeous 35 year-old Vera Baker in 2004 when she worked tirelessly to get him elected to the US Senate, raising millions in campaign contributions.

While Baker has insisted in the past that “nothing happened” between them, the Enquirer has learned that top anti-Obama operatives are offering more than $1 million to witnesses to reveal what they know about the alleged hush-hush affair.

The Enquirer also claims that the news could destroy the Obama marriage and while they have not provided any further evidence, they are promising that hotel surveillance footage could prove that Obama and Baker entered and left the hotel at the same time. “Investigators are attempting to obtain a tape from the hotel (that) shows Vera and Barack together… If the tape surfaces, it will explode the scandal.”

So that’s the kicker– whether the video evidence truly exists. Yes, the fact that it is the National Enquirer reporting it makes the matter highly questionable, especially in light of their previous attempt at launching an Obama sex scandal. However, the last time the Enquirer broke a high-profile political sex scandal, it left the mainstream media demanding it win a Pulitzer Prize. Plus, the claim is simply too damaging for the publicity rewards to outweigh the risk of publishing such a falsehood– this isn’t exactly an Anderson Cooper adoption story. Somewhat adding to its credibility is the fact that the Drudge Report, whose success is directly attributed to breaking the Monica Lewinsky story in 1998, felt confident enough in its accuracy to give it prime real estate on the site.

As Rod Blagojevich would say, there should be no impeaching until we’ve had a chance to review all the tapes– after all, without them, this wouldn’t be any more credible than the latest Brangelina rumor (which, if you’re interested, is that the twins have Down Syndrome). That said, a story of this category is no longer the joke it once was in the post-Rielle Hunter world, and with Drudge’s blessing, this story could ruin the weekend for the White House even if not true.
