Ron Prentice, the head of California's ban on gay marriage movement, made big bucks in his role as the California's Family Council's executive director. "To meet financial accountability standards, watchdog groups like the Better Business Bureau's Wise Giving Alliance say at least 65 percent of a tax-exempt organization's expenses, or most of the money it spends, should go to program services. The CFC's tax returns, however, show the opposite: the Council's employees have received about 70 percent of the money the organization has spent over the last four years and only about 18 percent has gone to program services." The top two employees including, Prentice who founded the organization were paid $1.1 million over 4 years while only $500,000 were spent on "services".
One has to wonder if Prentice and his "non profit" organization is fraudulent and breaking tax law. Even if it is not, common sense says this man is a crook.

The Mormon Church is going to be investigated by California officials for it's activities involving prop 8, which banned same-sex marriage.
SAN FRANCISCO — California officials will investigate accusations that the Mormon Church neglected to report a battery of nonmonetary contributions — including phone banks, a Web site and commercials — on behalf of a ballot measure to ban same-sex marriage.
Roman Porter, the executive director of the Fair Political Practices Commission, which oversees California campaign finance laws, signed off on the investigation after reviewing a sworn complaint filed on Nov. 13.
The complaint, filed by Fred Karger, founder of the group Californians Against Hate, asserted that the church’s reported contributions — about $5,000, according to state election filings — vastly underestimated its actual efforts in passing Proposition 8, which amended the state’s Constitution to recognize only male-female marriage.

Maybe director Gus Van Sant, screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, actor Sean Penn, and everyone involved with Milk thought they were making a nice little tribute to gay activist Harvey Milk, something to remind us that the dark days of Dade County and the "Twinkie defense" are no more. Come Proposition 8 and Newt "Gay and Secular Fascism" Gingrich, and suddenly it looks like, more than ever, we need the film and its lesson of what it takes to defend one's liberties.
I was able to sit down with activist Cleve Jones, who was a friend of Milk and a consultant on the film, for this Air America interview.Maybe director Gus Van Sant, screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, actor Sean Penn, and... more

The backlash against gay rights in San Francisco turned ugly last week.
Young people from the Promised Land Fellowship Church on San Francisco's Market Street walked the few blocks up the street to the Castro district to prey for the homosexuals in San Francisco. In a self described "act of love" the christian youth asked god to forgive the gay community and "to turn back this evil".
Police reports indicate that no one was hurt. It was a loud, non-violent protest. Yet church leaders contended otherwise in a sermon posted on you tube. Homosexuals were portrayed by the church as a violent hateful mob numbering 500 that in actuality was 50. They also say that hot coffee was thrown in the face of a worshiper, yet news and police reports have yet to confirm these reports. The worshipers were escorted out of the Castro with a police escort for their protection.
Then leaders contend that the civil rights backlash across the nation from Proposition 8, (which rebuked the rights of gays and lesbians to marry) a breaking point in salvation for gays.
That somehow by fueling the flame of a slimly won anti-civil rights measure this church can sway the minds of the affected minority is laughable.

In California, protesters have begun demonstrating against a gay marriage ban that voters approved by a narrow margin on Tuesday. Supporters of same sex marriages have filed three lawsuits asking the Supreme Court to overturn the proposition, arguing that the measure is an illegal constitutional revision. Proposition 8 supporters say the measure is legal and classify the proposition as a limited amendment.
On May 15th the California Supreme Court ruled that a state ban on same-sex marriage was unconstitutional by a vote of 4 to 3. That ruling also elevated sexual orientation to the constitutional status of race and gender, an elevation that provides strong legal protection from discrimination. In California, protesters have begun demonstrating against a gay marriage ban that... more

The Gay and Lesbian Community Center parking lot is filling up with people hoisting signs: “God made all of us equal!” and “Love is love!”
The crowd cheers. I cheer. It’s like a lesson in American history unfolding in front of me: fear and war, fear and love.
Someone yells, “We’re not going to take this lying down!” to which a guy a few steps away from me quips to a good-looking guy beside him, “I’ll take it laying down.”

With Proposition 8’s passage, we have seen a huge surge of discontent with government and the supposed ‘democratic’ system.
Prop. 8’s passage strikes to the core of the problem with ‘group rights’, demonstrates the dangers of moving away from our Republican form of governance and should call into question the true role of our government altogether.

The California Supreme court has agreed to hear several legal challenges to proposition 8 which took away the rights of 18,000 gay and lesbian families in California. The court may decide to overturn proposition 8, which would reinstate the rights of those families. The who oppose propsition 8 argue the bill was unproperly passed. They say the law changes the California constitution so dramatically that legally it should have gone through the legislature first. The court has put the issue on a fast track since so many questions remained unanswered since the Election.
On Saturday,'s November, 15 hundreds of thousands of gay and lesbians rights advocates took to the streets to demonstrate their opposition to propistion 8. It was the largest gay rights protest in United States History. Organizers of Saturday protest, are now calling for a national strike on December 12. They are borrow from the Latino American equal rights movement, by calling it "A Day without a Gay". Gays and Lesbians and their allies are being asked to skip work, stop spending money, and dedicate volunteer time to help the fight towards equality.

REPORTING FROM SAN FRANCISCO -- The California Supreme Court agreed today to review legal challenges to Prop. 8, the voter initiative that restored a ban on same-sex marriage, but refused to permit gay weddings to resume pending a ruling.
Meeting in closed session, the state high court asked litigants on both sides for more written arguments and scheduled a hearing for next March. The court also signaled its intention to decide the fate of existing same-sex marriages, asking litigants to argue that question.
Today's decision to review the lawsuits against Proposition 8 did not reveal how the court was leaning. The court could have dismissed the suits, but both opponents and supporters of Proposition 8 sought review to settle legal questions on a matter of statewide importance.
Some legal challengers also sought an order that would have permitted same-sex couples to marry until the cases were resolved, a position opposed by Atty. Gen. Jerry Brown and Proposition 8 supporters. Only Justice Carlos R. Moreno voted in the private conference to grant such a stay.
The order was signed by six of the court's seven justices. Justice Joyce Kennard did not sign, and the court said she would have invited a separate filing to determine the fate of existing same-sex marriages.
The court overturned a ban on same-sex marriage on May 15 in a 4-3 historic decision. Opponents of gay marriage gathered enough signatures to place Proposition 8 on the ballot as a proposed constitutional amendment.
Gay rights advocates argue that the measure was actually a constitutional revision, instead of a more limited amendment. A revision of the state Constitution can be placed before the voters only by a two-thirds vote of the Legislature or a constitutional convention.
Lawsuits to overturn the initiative contend it was a revision because it denied equal protection to a minority group and eviscerated a key constitutional guarantee. Supporters of Proposition 8 counter that it merely amended the constitution by restoring a traditional definition of marriage.
The court's previous rulings on similar lawsuits have been mixed. The court has upheld at least six initiatives and rejected only two that were challenged as illegal revisions.
Supporters of Proposition 8 have threatened to mount a recall of any justice who votes to overturn the measure. The court's members serve 12-year terms and appear on the ballot unopposed in retention elections.
Although the court tends to defer to voter sentiment on initiative challenges, it has overturned popular ballot measures in the past.
In 1966, the California Supreme Court struck down an initiative that would have permitted racial discrimination in housing. Voters had approved the measure, a repeal of a fair housing law, by a 2-to-1 margin. Opponents challenged it on equal protection grounds, not as a constitutional revision.
At the next judicial retention election, the margin of victory for the justices who appeared on the ballot declined by about 20%, said Bob Stern, president of the Center for Governmental Studies and an expert on the initiative process.
Federal courts overturned another contentious initiative, Proposition 187, the anti-immigration measure passed by voters. Unlike state judges, federal judges have lifetime tenure and do not face voters.REPORTING FROM SAN FRANCISCO -- The California Supreme Court agreed today to review... more

In the light of recent events that have taken place in the state of California, many people have decided that it’s time to take matters into our own hands. We will not sit back and let the rest of the world decide what we can and cannot do in America the Free.
We have borrowed from the Chicano movement and modified their "Day without a Mexican" into "Day without a Gay."
This concept is simple, but makes a huge impact.
On December 10th, 2008 we ask that all people in the LGBT community and all of our supporters call in sick to work and do not attend school. We ask that you do not purchase anything that day. We want California to see how many of us there are, and that there may be a person in their life that they didn’t know was gay.
Please join us. I know, personally, how extremely difficult it can be to come out and be open about yourself. I have overcome my fear, and I hope that all of you are able to as well.
We need to stand strong in California, and around the country. We need those that oppose us to know that we are strong and that we will NEVER GIVE UP.
Join us, and gain your equality. **this is not restricted to California**

A well-known Lansing area evangelical church was the target of a raucous demonstration by gay anarchists during Sunday services.
The disruption came from a group which calls itself Bash Back, and involved demonstrations outside the church and inside the sanctuary while services were under way, said Mt. Hope Church communications director David Williams.
Members of the group inside the church shouted pro-gay slogans, threw leaflets, unfurled a banner and pulled a fire alarm, then hastily departed, Williams said. There were no injuries, he said.
Williams said the episode was over in just a few minutes. Eaton County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrived quickly, Williams said, but no arrests were made. No one from the police agency was available today.
Williams said the actions were “an attempt to bully. The pastor here preaches the Bible and he doesn’t back down.”
But Mt. Hope doesn’t place a special emphasis on issues involving homosexuality, he said.
In a statement released today, church officials said they believe “homosexuality to be a sin, just as fornication, stealing, drunkenness and lying are sins. No sin greater than the next.”
In an online news release, Bash Back describes Mt. Hope as “a deplorable anti-queer mega church.”
