Mars. The Red Planet. It hasn’t inspired as many memorable movies as you might assume, but it is the indirect inspiration for Wall-E director Andrew Stanton’s first live-action feature John Carter, which sort of tanked at the box office this past weekend amidst much discussion of its questionable marketing and supposedly insane budget. Ricky D, Julian Carrington and Simon Howell are here to parse the space junk, as well as dredge up Paul Verhoeven’s awesomely sleazy Total Recall, which everyone is more or less required to agree is the best Mars-set movie ever made.

Philip K. Dick's short story Adjustment Team becomes a member of the PKD adaptation team this weekend. Other members of this illustrious group include Blade Runner, Total Recall, Minority Report, and A Scanner Darkly, but unlike those darker, dystopic films, The Adjustment Bureau is more romantic -- on a date with destiny, where the date is more important than the actual destiny. Politician David Norris (played by Matt Damon) has a chance to be President, but he'd give it all up for love with a saucy ballerina (played by Emily Blunt). Too bad for the would-be couple that the Adjustment Bureau has a different plan for them, and will do anything to keep them apart. Writer/director George Nolfi (who wrote Ocean's Twelve and co-wrote The Bourne Ultimatum) explains how he made the story different than any Dick adaptation before.

There's a forthcoming remake of Total Recall in the pipeline. It’s rumoured that Arnold Schwarzenegger’s role from Paul Verhoeven’s 1990 science fiction movie is being offered to Colin Farrell.

CNN is reporting on findings from a Freedom of Information request initiated by the Electronic Privacy Information Center that has revealed that, contrary to public statements by the Transportation Security Agency, full-body scanners can store and transmit images.
"In the [FOIA] documents, obtained by the privacy group and provided to CNN, the TSA specifies that the body scanners it purchases must have the ability to store and send images when in 'test mode.' ... 'There is no way for someone in the airport environment to put the machine into the test mode,' [an anonymous] official said, adding that test mode can be enabled only in TSA test facilities. But the official declined to say whether activating test mode requires additional hardware, software or simply additional knowledge of how the machines operate.

Predator is being joined by two other Arnold movies from the 80s on the assembly line. It had been previously reported that Total Recall would be recalled, and now it appears to be moving forward.
