Anytime that a season ends with a loss, it's easy to be irritated, angry, sad, disappointed, etc... What's not so easy to remember is that very few teams in any sport finish their season with a win - at least a win that counts for anything...Anytime that a season ends with a loss, it's easy to be irritated, angry, sad,... more

It wasn't supposed to be like this for Pacific. They weren't supposed to be starting the season as underdogs this year. In fact, they were expected to not only be the favorites in the Big West, but also be the second best college basketball team in California. That is, second only to national power-house UCLA. A team that was supposed to be strong, big, athletic, and experienced was the team that Bob Thomason and Tigers fans expected to come into Berkeley and give Mike Montgomery his first loss as a Bear...It wasn't supposed to be like this for Pacific. On my day off, I began researching Cal's next men's basketball opponent, Pacific. I'll get more into that matchup as the week wears on, but for now I thought I'd bring you some of the Mike Montgomery media quotes. After an inconsistent first half from Cal's starting quarterback, Nate Longshore, coach Jeff Tedford chose to bring in this week's backup, Kevin Riley. Riley started last week against Oregon, but suffered a concussion early in the game. He may have started against the Trojans had he been able to get more reps during practice this week. The lack of reps, showed as Riley often missed his receivers when they were open and held onto the ball too long on some plays...After an inconsistent first half from Cal's starting quarterback, Nate Longshore,... more

It's true about this year being a 'down' year for the Pac-10. The MWC and the WAC teams have shown that they can compete and win in the Pac-10 this season, which for an elite conference is not good news. With that reality, teams from other lesser-conferences would still be hard-pressed to make a case against either of the two teams playing in the Pac-10 marquee matchup this weekend....It's true about this year being a 'down' year for the Pac-10. Above are the players that have already committed to Cal for the 2009 season. Signing day isn't until February, but the Bears are not gaining commitments at a pace that would lead you to believe that they have a program to challenge for a title. After looking at the teams that lead Cal in recruiting this year, it's puzzling that Cal's recruiting class has been slow to develop...Above are the players that have already committed to Cal for the 2009 season. I don't propose to know more about football than Cal's main man, Jeff Tedford. In fact, I don't think there has been a better head man for Cal in the past 20 years. Maybe I'm too old. I must be out of touch because pro and student athletes continue to amaze me with their stupidity. Alright, so maybe I'm being a little too general by using the term 'stupid' to describe some of these guys. How about if I use the term arrogant? It's hard to attribute unexplainable actions to arrogance all of the time, so why don't I just say that they are looking a gift horse in the mouth? Nah, I think it's all three....Maybe I'm too old.
