Hurricane Gustav has the web abuzz today, but hopefully the people in Haiti aren’t inspired by the extreme hurricane tubing in this video. When life handed these guys Tropical Storm Fay, they hooked up an inner tube to a tow hitch and made fools of themselves on a side street. After all, what could possibly be a better idea than strapping your skivvies-wearing best buddy to the back of your truck, than dragging him through water infused with an intoxicating combination of oil, gas, transmission fluid, dirt, and mud?
Watch the video until the end, though, because the unthinkable/inevitable happens, and Homebuy #1 gets to plant a kiss on a neighbor’s tree at 15 MPH. Or face plants into a neighbor’s tree at 15 MPH. It depends on who’s watching.
The gallery features some significantly less painful images of Tropical Storm Fay.

Local woman forced out of Key West
Tourists given mandatory order to evacuate from hotel

A passion for teaching kids sent Rachel Armour to Key West. Tropical Storm Fay forced her out.
Armour, a 1999 Eastern High School graduate who moved to Florida in May 2007, was staying at a hotel when she was forced to evacuate.
"It was about 9:30 (a.m.) Sunday when someone slipped a paper under my door," the 25-year-old said. "I read it, and it said, 'mandatory evacuation for tourists.' Because I was living in the hotel, I had to leave."
Children sent to father
Armour said she had 45 minutes to gather her belongings and evacuate. In a panic, she grabbed all she could: medical records and clothes for herself and her 8-month-old son. Before the storm, she sent her two older children to their father in Dayton, Ohio.
Left behind was all the materials for her writing program, Choices i Control. Armour crafted the essay-writing system as a teacher in Houston and has taught the program in Chicago, Ohio and Lansing at Sankofa Shule Academy.
"I knew about the hurricanes but I figured I'd take a risk because I knew kids all over the U.S. needed my help," said Armour, who taught English at Key West High School before the storm.
Armour said it was during the trip on a Greyhound bus back to Lansing that she realized how devastating the storm could be.
"The wind was blowing so hard I thought the bus was going to flip over," said Armour who has been staying with family in Lansing since Tuesday. "I had never seen it rain like that in my life. I was scared. I just began to pray that we would make it."
'She is a strong person'
Her brother, Albert Overstreet, said the storm is a temporary setback.
"She could go to California and the world will swallow up, she could go to Boston and it's too cold ... you shouldn't let things stop you," said the 30-year-old Holt resident. "She is a strong person. One of the strongest I know."
Armour said she isn't so sure.
"I don't know if I would want to live there anymore," Armour said. "I believe there are people there who are dead, or stranded. I just want to start a new life."

Tropical Storm Fay lumbered offshore for what was likely to be a brief stay over the Atlantic Ocean's energizing waters after flooding hundreds of homes, trapping residents and leaving much of Florida a soggy mess.
Forecasters expected the storm to complete its zig-zag course by hitting the state for a third time in a week, along with Georgia, but didn't think it would strengthen to a hurricane over the open waters.
The storm flooded hundreds of homes in Brevard and St. Lucie counties, some with up to 5 feet of water, forcing dozens of rescues. The Federal Emergency Management Agency was reviewing Gov. Charlie Crist's request for a federal emergency disaster declaration to defray rising debris and response costs...Tropical Storm Fay lumbered offshore for what was likely to be a brief stay over the... more

A hurricane warning was issued Monday for southwestern Florida as Tropical Storm Fay moved into the Florida Straits, the National Hurricane Center reported. The warning, from Flamingo to Anna Maria Island, means hurricane conditions are expected within 24 hours.
Monroe County emergency officials suspended their evacuation efforts for the Florida Keys and warned visitors and residents to stay off the Overseas Highway and other roads, which already are experiencing freshwater flooding.
Hurricane watches are in effect for the Florida Keys and South Florida. The watches extend as far as Tarpon Springs, near Tampa, on Florida's west coast, and to Cocoa Beach on the east coast.

HAVANA (Reuters) - Tropical Storm Fay raked Cuba's southern coast with gusty winds and heavy rains on Sunday and was expected to move ashore overnight before heading to Florida as a likely hurricane.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said maximum sustained winds were 50 mph (80 kph), but Cuban forecasters said gusts up to 66 miles per hour (110 kph) had been recorded at Cabo Cruz, which juts out into the Caribbean.
In its latest advisory, the hurricane center said Fay, the sixth storm of the Atlantic cyclone season, was cruising over warm Caribbean Sea waters at 15 miles per hour (24 kph) about 205 miles southeast of Havana and 270 miles south-southeast of Key West, Florida.
Fay, which killed at least five people when it struck Haiti and the Dominican Republic on Saturday, was expected to make landfall around midnight, cross the island and enter the Florida Straits by mid-morning on Monday.
Hurricane watches were posted along much of Cuba's central and western coast, including Havana, but Jorge Rubiera, chief of Cuba's weather center, said he did not expect Fay to become a hurricane, which has minimum winds of 74 miles per hour (118 km per hour).
But once back out over water, the U.S. hurricane center said Fay would pick up steam and possibly hit the Florida Keys on Monday night as a hurricane. Hurricane watches were posted in the Keys and along Florida's west coast.
Heavy rains were reported in some Cuban coastal provinces but so far only minor flooding and damage had occurred, officials said.
