Way up in Wasilla, where the men are men and the moose are meat, members of the high school symphonic jazz choir were excitedly rehearsing for the upcoming graduation ceremony, where they'd be performing an epic rendition of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody." Then they were told by Principal Dwight Probasco (that's his staff directory page) that the song had been pulled from the program. "Why?" they wondered, having put months of effort into the big number. Probasco explained it was because he'd received a complaint from a parent. You see Freddie Mercury, the vocalist who had sung the original version of the song, was gay.

Rick Sanchez fired? Yes, Rick Sanchez was fired by CNN
after a rant on a Sirius radio show indicated that he feels as if Jon Stewart
is a "Bigot" and that the entertainment industry is "ran by Jews." The unfortunate comments by the former correspondent were mocked by some of his rivals, including MSNBC's Keith Olbermann.
Some venture to say that Rick Sanchez could be picked up by Fox News. Of course, as of right now there's no indication that could be the case. However, whenever someone is fired from a big network
, there's a buzz over whether or not Fox - the black sheep in the news world - will try to pick them up.
Remember when Lou Dobbs quit? Pretty much everyone thought he was headed to Rupert Murdoch's Fox News. That hasn't transpired as of yet. New: Organize Yourself - PERSONALIZED PROGRAM!!!!!
While I wouldn't rule out a Sanchez exodus to Fox News, saying that the media empire is ran by Jews and calling Jon Stewart a bigot isn't going to win him any brownie points. At this point, I think it's wait and see, but I can't see Fox News hiring Rick Sanchez any time soon. http://politics-and-world-5678.blogspot.com/2010/10/rick-sanchez-fired-cnn-fires.htmlRick Sanchez fired? Gordon Brown, who let's face it needs all the votes he can get right now, may have lost a fair few yesterday after describing an elderly, widowed Labour voter, who's even look after disabled kids in her time (!), as "bigoted" to an aide, unaware his words were being picked up by a microphone that was accidentally still attached to his shirt.
After telling the woman "It has been very good to meet you - and you are wearing the right colour today. How are your grandchildren? A good family. Good see you," Brown climbed into his car and reportedly said the following:
"You should never have put me with that woman. Who's idea was that? Sue's I think. Everything she said - she's just a bigoted woman."
Updates:
Channel 4 think Brown's comment was in response to her saying "You can't say anything about these immigrants - all these Eastern Europeans were flocking in."
The Lib Dem press office responded on Twitter and advised Brown: "Say she had a small livestock holding and was a be-goated woman".
@bigotedwoman has already been set up on Twitter. Hat tip for speed to the person behind it.
Radio 2 plays Brown a recording of his 'bigoted woman' comments. His reaction, caught on camera, is utterly brilliant. Here's an audio recording of Jeremy Vine playing it to Brown. Video here.

The organizers of the event proclaimed: “Our time has come!”
Well, their time has come and gone and the gala celebration on the National Mall turned out to be an embarrassing fizzle.
Hassen Abdallah, one of the key planners of “the Day of Islamic Unity,” proclaimed that over 50,000 Muslims would make their way to DC for the event.
Five hundred buses were secured to transport Muslims throughout the country to the National Mall so that their prayers to Allah would resonate throughout the Lincoln and Washington memorials and the joint halls of Congress . . . .The organizers of the event proclaimed: “Our time has come!”

STATE-SANCTIONED polyamory is now the cutting-edge issue among scholars of family law.
Promoting polyamory is the ideal way to radically reorder society s view of the family," wrote Ettelbrick, who has since formally signed on as a supporter of gay marriage (and is frequently quoted by the press).
She is now part of a movement that hopes to use gay marriage as an opening to press for state-sanctioned polyamory.
Ettelbrick teaches law at the University of Michigan, New York University, Barnard, and Columbia. She has a lot of company.
Nancy Polikoff is a professor at American University s law school. In 1993, Polikoff published a powerful and radical critique of gay marriage.
A movement for gay marriage, warned Polikoff, would surely promote marriage as a social good, trotting out monogamous couples as spokesmen in a way that would marginalize non-monogamous gays and would fail to challenge the legitimacy of marriage itself. Like Ettelbrick, Polikoff now supports the right of gays to marry.
And like Ettelbrick, Polikoff is part of a movement whose larger goal is to use legal gay marriage to push for state-sanctioned polyamory--the ultimate subversion of marriage itself. Polikoff and Ettelbrick represent what is arguably now the dominant perspective within the discipline of family law.
Cornell University law professor Martha Fineman is another key figure in the field of family law.
In her 1995 book The Neutered Mother, she argued for the abolition of marriage as a legal category.
But it s University of Utah law professor Martha Ertman who stands on the cutting edge of family law. Ertman has offered a legal template for a sweeping relationship contract system modeled on corporate law. (See the Harvard Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Law Review, Winter 2001.)
She goes on astutely to imply that the increased openness of homosexual partnerships is slowly collapsing the taboo against polygamy and polyamory. And Ertman is frank about the purpose of her proposed reform--to render the distinction between traditional marriage and polyamory morally neutral.
A sociologist rather than a professor of law, Judith Stacey, the Barbra Streisand Professor in Contemporary Gender Studies at USC, is another key member of this group. Stacey has long championed alternative family forms.
Her current research is on gay families consisting of more than two adults, whose several members consider themselves either married or contractually bound.
In 1996, in the Michigan Law Review, David Chambers, a professor of law at the University of Michigan and another prominent member of this group, explained why radical opponents of marriage ought to support gay marriage.
Rather than reinforcing a two-person definition of marriage, argued Chambers, gay marriage would make society more accepting of further legal changes. By ceasing to conceive of marriage as a partnership composed of one person of each sex, the state may become more receptive to units of three or more.
Gradual transition from gay marriage to state-sanctioned polyamory, and the eventual abolition of marriage itself as a legal category, is now the most influential paradigm within academic family law.
Finally, Martha Minow of Harvard Law School deserves mention. Minow has not advocated state-sanctioned polygamy or polyamory, but the principles she champions pave the way for both.
Minow argues that families need to be radically redefined, putting blood ties and traditional legal arrangements aside and attending instead to the functional realities of new family configurations.
Ettelbrick, Polikoff, Fineman, Ertman, Stacey, Chambers, and Minow are among the most prominent family law theorists in the country.
They have plenty of followers and hold much of the power and initiative within their field. There may be other approaches to academic family law, but none exceed the radicals in influence.STATE-SANCTIONED polyamory is now the cutting-edge issue among scholars of family law.... more

If you want to live in a democracy leave Califonia
Here is what the LaTimes says:
Here s an important footnote to the string of boycotts and protests by gay-marriage supporters after Proposition 8 was approved by voters last month.
Marjorie Christoffersen, a manager at El Coyote who became a lightning rod for protests because of her donation to supporters of the ban on same-sex marriage, is said to be considering resigning, according to a restaurant official.
El Coyote manager Larry Crenshaw said Christoffersen is considering leaving the eatery, but no final decision has been made.
The restaurant was the scene of protests, pickets and boycotts in the days after voters approved Proposition 8.
Christoffersen, who is Mormon, had given $100 to the Yes on 8 campaign. Her mother owns the restaurant. Crenshaw said Christoffersen has stopped serving and greeting customers at the venerable Mexican eatery known for its margaritas.
Activists opposed to Proposition 8 have launched boycotts of numerous businesses whose owners or employees contributed to initiative, which banned same-sex unions in California. If you want to live in a democracy leave Califonia

Last week, a speech by Sen. John McCain had phrases that were likely lifted directly from Wikipedia.
Now it seems McCain may have lifted another story last night at megachurch pastor Rick Warren's Faith Forum. According to a very persuasive Daily Kos diary, the anecdote McCain told about a North Vietnamese prison guard making a cross in the dirt as a sign of solidarity -- or as he said, "just two Christians worshiping together" -- is very similar to a story about Alexander Solzhenitsyn and his times in the Soviet Gulags.Last week, a speech by Sen.
