John Boehner is getting some rough treatment from fellow Catholics today. Ahead of his commencement speech this weekend at Catholic University, a group of professors from there and other Catholic institutions have accused him of failing his church duties to help the needy, reports the Washington Post. In fact, they criticize the proposed 2012 budget under his watch as having "anti-life implications." The National Catholic Reporter has the full text of the letter.
Two snippets drawing attention:
“Mr. Speaker, your voting record is at variance from one of the Church’s most ancient moral teachings," the letter states. "Your record in support of legislation to address the desperate needs of the poor is among the worst in Congress."
"The 2012 budget you shepherded to passage in the House of Representatives guts long-established protections for the most vulnerable members of society. It is particularly cruel to pregnant women and children..."John Boehner is getting some rough treatment from fellow Catholics today. Ahead of his... more

Boehner's "poor and lazy" comments to Rolling Stone reflect his party's beliefs.
Speaker of the House John Boehner claims that the “poor and lazy” caused the current economic crisis during an interview Matt Taibbi of Rolling Stone according to Rumorville.com. Boehner stuck to Republican Party talking points during the interview until Taibbi during a coffee break asked Boehner about today's young people. Apparently unaware he was still on record, Boehner, let Taibbi know how he really felt about poor Americans:
"Can't pay your student loan? Face it your parents were lazy and you couldn't afford college. The world needs ditch diggers and you were born into a family of them. Can't pay your mortgage? Your house was too expensive and you couldn't afford it."It's not going to happen in the US. The kids here are too fat, too lazy, to addicted to TV, fast food, cheap credit, and facebook.” I have news for you- there are plenty of jobs out there- the unemployed don't want them. Today's college student feels entitled to make at least $24 right after college. I'm not worried for this country- there are a few of them who actually want to work, take Mark Zucker(sic). You don't build a site like facebook out of thin air- it takes talent and hard work. I went to a community college and all I saw were people sitting in front of computers typing away, their eyes were fixed. Probably just facebooking away."
For the record, I was raised in the inner city and went to a community college and I did fine. Moreover, Mark Zuckerberg is not your typical American college student. Zuckerberg was a child prodigy who came from a well-to-do family and went to Harvard without the help of student loans. By the way, there are claims that Zuckerberg stole the idea and code for Facebook so he may have been a bit ethically challenged which you forgot to mention. If that’s true, he missed his calling on Wall Street – but I digress.

The U.S. House killed an alternative engine for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter as rank-and-file lawmakers, seeking deep cuts in spending, voted down a program backed by House Speaker John Boehner.
Lawmakers voted 233-198 today to remove $450 million for the engine from a Republican bill that already aims to slash $61 billion from this year’s budget. The vote was a victory for President Barack Obama and the Pentagon, which for years has said the program isn’t needed.
“After years of throwing good money after bad to fund the wasteful extra engine, the House has finally voted to end this unnecessary program,” said Florida Republican Tom Rooney, who co-sponsored the amendment. “Today’s vote sends a message to the American people that Congress heard their call to eliminate wasteful spending.”
Republicans split almost evenly on the engine, with 110 voting to end it and 130 voting to keep it. More than half of the freshmen Republicans voted against the engine program. Among Democrats, 123 opposed funding the engine and 68 voted to continue the funding.
Boehner had argued the program would produce savings for the government over time. His Ohio district is near a plant that would be threatened with job losses if the program were defunded. It is being developed by General Electric Co. and Rolls Royce Group Plc.
500 Amendments
The House is considering more than 500 amendments from lawmakers taking advantage of Boehner’s promise to allow a free debate on the budget-cutting proposal introduced last week.
The plan, which would fund the government from March 4 through Sept. 30, would kill more than 100 government programs and slash hundreds more. The Environmental Protection Agency would be cut by nearly one-third, the Peace Corps would face a 20 percent reduction and Pell college tuition grants would drop by 15 percent. Republicans plan a final vote on the measure by the end of this week.
Senate Democrats said the House plan would force as many as 218,000 children to be dropped from the Head Start program and lead to the firing of 65,000 teachers.
“If we follow the House Republicans’ roadmap, it would lead the country over the cliff,” Senator Charles Schumer of New York said in a statement.
Deeper Cuts
Many House Republicans are seeking even deeper cuts to the plan, with Jim Jordan of Ohio proposing to cut an additional $20 billion and Texas Republican Ron Paul proposing to slash aid to Egypt, Israel, Pakistan and Jordan by $6 billion.
Other amendments would bar funds to implement Obama’s health-care law, reduce funds for farm subsidies and prevent government workers from implementing the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection, created under the financial overhaul Congress passed last year.
The House budget plan would be unlikely to survive in the Senate, where majority Democrats today endorsed Obama’s call for a five-year freeze of non-security discretionary spending to help reduce the deficit. Such a freeze would save $400 billion over 10 years.
‘We’re Broke’
Asked about concerns the House’s proposed spending cuts would force the government to furlough employees, Boehner said yesterday, “so be it” because “we’re broke.”
Defense Secretary Robert Gates told the House Armed Services Committee today that the backup F-35 engine is “an unnecessary and extravagant expense” that the Pentagon has been trying to kill since former President George W. Bush’s administration.
Representative Kevin McCarthy, the No. 3 Republican, told reporters the alternative engine program would produce savings because having multiple companies participating would generate competition. “You would save money by having the competition,” he said.
Representative Jeff Flake, an Arizona Republican, scoffed at those arguments, saying the issue was “parochial politics versus fiscal responsibility.” Today’s vote “is an indication of whether we’re serious about saving money,” he said.
Rooney said that, while he asked freshman lawmakers how they could pass up an opportunity to save $450 million, Boehner was urging members to support the engine plan.
Rooney declined to describe Boehner’s pitch, saying, “You’ll have to ask him; I’ve been trying to stay away from him.”The U.S. House killed an alternative engine for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter as... more

David Cameron has been accused by campaigners of breaking the law by cracking an "appalling" joke comparing Commons Speaker John Bercow to one of the Seven Dwarfs.A charity which helps people with primordial dwarfism and other forms of restricted growth said the comments were a form of harassment - and called for talks with the Prime Minister. In a dig at Bercow - believed to be 5ft 6in tall - Cameron said health minister Simon Burns had asked his driver to reverse into the Speaker's car. When Bercow said he was "not happy" about the incident, Cameron quipped to journalists at a Westminster lunch on Wednesday, Burns retorted: "So which one are you?".In June, Health Minster Burns publicly apologised after calling the Speaker a "stupid, sanctimonious dwarf" in the Commons. He said he was sorry for any offence he had caused after the insult was branded "derogatory and deeply offensive" by the Walking with Giants Foundation (WWGF).Prime Minister Cameron's spokeswoman said he had made "light-hearted comments not intended to cause offence".But John Connerty, WWGF co-founder and charity secretary, launched a fierce condemnation of the Prime Minister's decision to "glorify" the previous incident."Once again we have an influential figure, if not the most influential person in the country, making distasteful references about a person's lack of height," he said."It was bad enough having a minister of health make similar distasteful comments but to have the Prime Minister himself glorify the comments in a joke is totally unacceptable and downright appalling."
It's been a week full of polittical gaffes: first it was Sarkozy calling a reporter a paedophile, then Sarah Palin got her geography wrong, again, and said that she was standing by her North Korean allies, and then finally a newly appointed Tory peer called Howard Flight said that changes to the welfare system will make it harder for the middle classes to have kids but lead to poor to breed.

The certification of constitutional qualification for the office of president
DC Knows that Obama is Ineligible for Office
By JB Williams
April 20, 2010
Members from all three branches of the Federal government already know that Barack Hussein Obama is ineligible for the office of President. National leaders, to include members of the US Supreme Court, already know that Barack Hussein Obama is not a “natural born citizen” of the United States of America, and therefore, is ineligible for the office he currently holds.

I am a victim. I've been duped more times than anyone I know by an insidious scheme trolling the internet: The Rickroll.
The rickroll achieved widespread popularity by the fall of 2008. This internet phenomenon officially jumped the shark when Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi made a video rickrolling constituents.
In this post-rickroll era, I've been attacked more than a dozen times. The culprit, one man. A friend who'd been (involuntarily) off-the-grid. I suspect when he was reintegrated into the general population he discovered this meme, and has been duping me ever since. I've become wary of every link he sends me, but yesterday, he got me again.
My name is Josh Heller, and I was telephone rickrolld.

Strangely absent from the recent coverage of Pelosi's past knowledge of U.S. torture policies is any acknowledgement that this story is old news. Really old news. Way back in December, 2007, the Washington Post ran a piece headlined, "Hill Briefed on Waterboarding in 2002." It hit Pelosi with the exact same allegations that have been so breathlessly reported as of late:
In September 2002, four members of Congress met in secret for a first look at a unique CIA program designed to wring vital information from reticent terrorism suspects in U.S. custody. For more than an hour, the bipartisan group, which included current House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), was given a virtual tour of the CIA's overseas detention sites and the harsh techniques interrogators had devised to try to make their prisoners talk.
So what's new? For one, Republicans are under intense moral and political threat and see a chance divert responsibility for their misdeeds back to Democrats.
To be sure, Pelosi should have taken action against U.S. torture policies as soon as she was briefed on them. And she's now paying the price for being too politically cowardly-or opportunistic-to address this issue head-on when the Post broke the story back in 2007. But it's disingenuous for the press and Pelosi's political rivals to feign outrage over what Pelosi knew and when. What did they know and when? Assuming they read the news, why didn't they make an issue of this back in 2007?
One politician did make an issue of the Post story at the time.
Cindy Sheehan, the Peace Mom, ran a quixotic campaign against Pelosi for her House seat last year, and garnered 16 percent of the vote and very little press. Key to her electoral strategy was capitalizing on liberal outrage-surprisingly tepid outrage, it turned out-over what Pelosi knew. She even called for Pelosi to be stripped of her leadership post over the news. "I was appalled and really saddened," Sheehan told me at the time. "We can't be represented by a person like this."
Seventy two percent of San Francisco voters thought otherwise.
With Sheehan's failed challenge in mind, it's hard to put credence in today's New York Times story on Pelosi's political fate, which quotes Bay Area resident Delphine Langille of San Ramon: "I'm very skeptical of what she's saying, Langille told the Times on the steps of San Francisco City Hall, "and when she goes to get re-elected, this could really damage her credibility." Yeah right. There's simply no way a Republican could ever mount a viable challenge in San Francisco, no way the Democratic establishment would ever try, and no way--as we've seen--that a third party outsider will take her down.
Politics is morally mushy business. The political climate was clearly more pro-torture back in 2002 than it is now. A braver politician might have spoken out sooner, but also might not have risen to the Speaker post. The interesting thing about San Franciscans is that they are politically sophisticated enough to entertain a race like Sheehan's while also voting for a pragmatist like Pelosi. And they can certainly distinguish between the moral clarity-or absolutism-of someone like Sheehan, and the immoral opportunism of liberal-come-lately Republicans. Let's hope the press and the rest of the nation eventually figure this out too.Strangely absent from the recent coverage of Pelosi's past knowledge of U.S.... more
