This one has been on my mind for some time and after checking the route of the 66 Quintara bus. I think it’s time to put it out of commission. It is the shortest bus route beating the old winner the 37 Corbett and runs from 30th and Vicente to 9th and Judah now. If you need to get anywhere along that route there are other buses that can serve the need in a better way. This one has been on my mind for some time and after checking the route of the 66... more

Under increasing public pressure and facing accusations of prisoner abuse, the Pentagon will transfer Army Pfc. Bradley Manning, suspected of leaking secret U.S. government documents to the WikiLeaks website, from the Marine Corps brig at Quantico, Va., to the Army prison at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, as early as Wednesday. It’s not only a change in venue, but a dramatic shift in the conditions of his confinement.
Manning was held in maximum security at Quantico, where he spent 23 hours a day and ate all his meals in an isolated cell, was permitted no contact with other prisoners and was forced to wear chains and leg irons any time he was moved. He also was often forced to strip naked at night and stand nude in his cell for early morning inspection.
The Marines claim they took his clothes to prevent him from injuring himself. Military and Pentagon officials insist the action was punishment for what the Marines considered disrespect from Manning. Such tactics for disciplinary reasons are against military regulations.
Once at Leavenworth, he’ll be placed in a new medium-security facility. Although locked in a cell at night, he’ll have some freedom of movement in an open day room, have contact and take meals with fellow prisoners, shower when he wants and have access to books and TV.
This will make visits with his civilian attorney, family and some friends more difficult, but it’s the nearest such facility for pre-trial confinement the Army has. Manning will have to return to Fort Belvoir in Virginia for any court appearances. Putting him back into Quantico is “out of the question,” according to Pentagon and military officials, so the Army may make arrangements with a civilian detention facility to hold him temporarily as needed.
U.S. military officials, who spoke to NBC News on condition of anonymity, deny Manning was tortured, but one said "the Marines blew it” in terms of how they treated him.
Both White House and Pentagon officials grew increasingly concerned by the human rights drumbeat of public accusations and criticism of Manning’s treatment and wanted to put an end to it, they said.
The announcement, which is expected tomorrow morning, will be spun to say the Army requested the move, they said.Under increasing public pressure and facing accusations of prisoner abuse, the... more

Sounds like Fifa will be adding some technology into football with a new computerised transfer system. It is claimed the new computer system will prevent clubs from performing last minute buys and create a more transparent transfer.
"The world governing body believes the system will prevent money laundering, protect minors and make transfers more transparent. Clubs will have to declare whether there is any third party ownership of a player - the issue that caused the Carlos Tevez controversy at West Ham - or risk being sanctioned."-Independent
The time limit could mean if any club left it too late, then they could risk losing a transfer when the computer locks out transactions when the time runs out. This also means FIFA can monitor transfers and hand out punishments with points or fines if any of the rules are broken.
It'll be interesting to see how a computerised and early transfer system with have on the cash amounts used in transfers, but I'm guessing with computers comes a few bugs which might cause disputes if anything goes wrong. Though it looks like you can access the site online after a simple google search. https://www.fifatms.com/fifatms/ with the system kicking off Oct 1st.
"FIFA president Sepp Blatter said: "This is a historic moment for football. TMS is a relatively simple online system but it will have a tremendous impact on the international transfer of players. After years of investigation, a charity called Reprieve named the two men Amanatullah Ali and Yunus Rahmatullah, who were previously unidentified when transferred from British to US forces in Afghanistan and held in Bagram.
The article states, that the MoD didn't release their names (not even to the families) because it would 'would be in breach of the Data Protection Act.'-Guardian.
However, in the article it is clear the two men were left in a 'legal black hole' because of this. The charity states the two men weren't insurgents and were unable to gain access to any lawyers or their families. There is also evidence that the transfer was known about in 2004 by the defence secretary John Hutton.
With the news concentrating more on the debates this week, I recommend giving this article a good read because it might be a while before it's addressed on other news outlets.
"The British legal aid system will not allow his family to bring a case because there is insufficient proof Saleh was the prisoner rendered to Afghanistan, though only the British government had proof, Reprieve said."
"In his statement last year, Hutton referred to allegations first made in 2008 by Ben Griffin, a former SAS soldier, that British troops had handed over to the US detainees who were then rendered to Iraq. The MoD subsequently obtained a gagging order preventing Griffin from saying anything further."- The GuardianAfter years of investigation, a charity called Reprieve named the two men Amanatullah... more

Kolo Toure has allegedly handed in a transfer request after a big bust up with defensive partner William Gallas.
Jermain Defoe is apparently eager to match up with Harry Redknapp at Spurs again.

Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov could be set for a shock move to Bayern Munich, according to BILD sources in England.
The Bulgarian (28) has been the subject of constant transfer rumours this summer, with Manchester United the only possible destination so far.
But new evidence suggests that Bayern are keen on the player, and could swoop in and use Spurs' hostility towards last season's Champions League winners to take him from under their noses.
