Fort Hood massacre suspect Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan had business cards that identified him as a "soldier of Allah," and federal investigators are looking at whether he wired money to Pakistan militants.
Hasan also communicated by e-mail with a radical imam who called the Fort Hood gunman a hero.
He also told colleagues that non-Muslims should be beheaded and have boiling oil poured down their throats.
He also shouted Allah Akbhar while killing the "infidels."
So why isn't the President calling this domestic radical Islamic terrorist a terrorist?
Is it because the killer wasn't dressed like the guys above in the photo?

Courage comes in many different forms. For Esmeralda a transgender asylum seeker from Mexico who faced horrific circumstances in immigration detention, it came in the form of seeking justice. Kept in a segregated cell with other transgender detainees, Esmeralda never realized that her experience in detention would match the trauma of discrimination she had faced back home. But her story is also one of hope for change.Courage comes in many different forms. For Esmeralda a transgender asylum seeker from... more

Getting caught up on this story from yesterday in the NY Times: Apparently security forces in Iraq are using bomb detecting "wands" that the Pentagon thinks are useless. All those checkpoints that are supposed to keep Iraq's cities safe from car bombs might not be having much of an effect at all.
From the NY Times:
"The Iraqis, however, believe passionately in them. “Whether it’s magic or scientific, what I care about is it detects bombs,” said Maj. Gen. Jehad al-Jabiri, head of the Ministry of the Interior’s General Directorate for Combating Explosives. Dale Murray, head of the National Explosive Engineering Sciences Security Center at Sandia Labs, which does testing for the Department of Defense, said the center had “tested several devices in this category, and none have ever performed better than random chance.”
Iraq is in the middle of a delicate transition period. Things have begun to seem more stable, less violent. US troops have pulled back to their bases, out of the cities. And blast walls in the capital have even come down. But with recent bombings in Baghdad - bomb detection is a really critical part of maintaining security. The New York Times described the wands as working on the "same principle as a Ouija board" - by the power of user suggestion.
From the NY Times:
"On Tuesday, a guard and a driver for The New York Times, both licensed to carry firearms, drove through nine police checkpoints that were using the device. None of the checkpoint guards detected the two AK-47 rifles and ammunition inside the vehicle. During an interview on Tuesday, General Jabiri challenged a Times reporter to test the ADE 651, placing a grenade and a machine pistol in plain view in his office. Despite two attempts, the wand did not detect the weapons when used by the reporter but did so each time it was used by a policeman. “You need more training,” the general said."

Arianna has her latest column comparing candidate Obama to President Obama, as well as the public's growing discontent with their political leaders, from both parties, in Washington D.C. She noted that the the same feelings of discontent that Obama the candidate tapped into to win his historic election are now seemingly lost on Obama the President as he works to enact his agenda.

Just hours after Iranian President Ahmadinejad agreed to accept an IAEA deal to enrich uranium out of the country, they suddenly backed out. The plan had been to take Iran's nuclear stockpile and send it to Russia to be enriched. It's disappointing for those concerned about Iran's plans for its enriching uranium - though I don't think it's particularly surprising.
I was thinking about how long Iran has been playing this game, and it brought to mind this Supernews gem: Iran: Deal or No Deal?
That piece was produced in 2006. Over three years ago. It's kind of disheartening to see what looks like the same game playing out, but with a few different players. No more Bush or Condoleeza Rice, and Putin is now the Prime Minister of Russia, not the President. But it's hard not to watch this and see Iran doing the same things today. Is there another card up the Obama Administration's negotiating sleeve? Let's hope so.

President Obama is one charming mofo. He smiles in the face of the public, but makes strong political moves with big-wig lobbyists behind the scenes. He moves so smooth (and speaks so vague) that he convinces everyone that not only is he their best friend, but he is on their side.
For the past couple of months Republicans and Democrats have been at odds on whether or not Health Care Reform was going to even happen, then it moved to whether or not Americans needed a public option, and now it has moved to what kind of public option there should be. But while everyone is distracted in petty arguments and propaganda, Obama and Rahm Emmanuel have been working to keep the Hospital lobby happy. In turn, lobbyists have been pouring money into Democratic campaigns.
There will be a public option but only for some people, in some states, and those states have the option of opting out. Why even bother with a public option that is complete bullshit?
Why can't we just have a single payer system?President Obama is one charming mofo. He smiles in the face of the public, but makes... more
