The dust from inauguration day has settled. With the media focusing on the new First Lady’s fashion sense they’ve ignored Obama’s. Well, we’re going to remedy that by taking a look at the President’s bullet-resistant clothing.
According to reports, Obama wore a smart suit made by Colombian designer Miguel Caballero who specializes in creating bulletproof clothing that’s both business appropriate, flexible and tough. The dust from inauguration day has settled. With the media focusing on the new First... more

Here is my take, what is yours?
Obama must tread carefully if we are to hope for peace. I wish he could have made a grand statement regarding how America must now shift our focus and total support away from Israel to truly be a broker of peace. His inaugural speech was not the moment to do that. However, he must do it soon and make it very clear that not only domestic policy has to radically change in this country but Foreign policy change, in some ways, is even more crucial for the security of the United States. The most important thing is: I believe Obama will listen if WE keep talking. That alone gives me hope. So speak out and speak loudly. Obama's greatness has yet to be proven, and so has ours. Here is my take, what is yours?

Witnessed by an elated, celebratory crowd of more than a million admirers, Barack Hussein Obama marked his place in history as America's first African-American president. President Obama called for a disheartened country to unite in hope against the "gathering clouds and raging storms" of war and economic woe. It was a ceremonial event watched in fascination by many millions, perhaps even billions of people, around the world.
In his Inaugural Address, President Obama remarked that, "We gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord.” But he stated that in our present discouraging economic and political climate, “What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility, a recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation, and the world, duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly....This is the price and the promise of citizenship."
This article includes a number of wonderful photographs and four videos (including President Obama's Inauguration Address). In addition, it presents an amazing photo-gallery, with images that produce a historic photographic-document of Barack Obama's entire presidential campaign.Witnessed by an elated, celebratory crowd of more than a million admirers, Barack... more

GUANTANAMO BAY, Cuba (CNN) -- In one of his first acts in office President Obama has ordered the U.S. government to suspend prosecutions of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay for 120 days, military officials said Tuesday.
Papers filed at the U.S. prison camp said the request is made "in the interest of justice and at the direction of the president of the United States." It seeks a delay in proceedings until May 20.
"The judges will receive the requests and review them, and we anticipate a ruling soon," said Cmdr. Jeffrey Gordon, a Defense Department spokesman.
Tuesday's directive was issued verbally through Defense Secretary Bob Gates, according to a military official.
Obama had vowed to close the naval prison at the U.S. base. While Obama's order does not go that far, it will stop the prosecutions of 21 detainees currently facing war crimes charges.
Jamil Dakwar, a representative for the American Civil Liberties Union at the base, called the move "a good step in the right direction." Gabor Rona, an observer for Human Rights Watch, also called the order "a first step."
"The very fact that it's one of his first acts reflects a sense of urgency that the U.S. cannot afford one more day of counterproductive and illegal proceedings in the fight against terrorism," said Rona, who was in Cuba to watch the proceedings scheduled this week."

I like the idea that Obama is getting the ball rolling on his campaign promises so soon. It's especially nice to see this follow through after hearing so many people say things such as "there will be no real change," or, "he's just like every other politician". Time will tell if he is able to realize this particular goal.GUANTANAMO BAY, Cuba (CNN) -- In one of his first acts in office President Obama has... more

Here at home, there were numerous inauguration parties tonight.
600 people attended the Aloha Inaugural Ball at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel.
It was a chance for folks who didn't go up to Washington, D.C. to attend a formal and elegant gala here at home.
As the sun sets, a new dawn begins in American history.
"I wanted to take this opportunity to express our aloha to President Obama, but also to let him know that we understand the very difficult task he faces," said former Hawaii Governor George Ariyoshi.
A celebration at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. An inauguration ball "island style."
A lavish food spread, featuring cuisines from Chicago, Indonesia. Kenya and Hawaii -- places dear to President Barack Obama.
"The State of Hawaii has provided its own unique nurturing, education, and experience to the local boy who is now the President of the United States," said Jim Burns, son of former Hawaii Governor John Burns.
For some who are gathered here, this is the end of a long journey -- a journey to help get Obama into the White House.
"The inauguration of President Obama that took place today made it possible for President Obama to inherit the toughest job in the world," said Ariyoshi.
It's a job folks here know that Obama can do -- yes he can.
And it's only fitting that our nation's first African-American President is from Hawaii -- since we're a state of firsts -- we had the first Asian-American Governor, the first Hawaiian Governor and the First Filipino Governor. Here at home, there were numerous inauguration parties tonight.

Hawaii's prominence in the new administration also includes a cabinet appointee.
Gina Mangieri has that interview with retired general Eric Shinseki, and all the day's inaugural news from Washington.
There's no doubt about it at this inauguration, Hawaii is the state to be from. No where was that more apparent than at the Pearl Inaugural gala featuring some super stars from Hawaii's politics and leadership.
General Eric Shinseki is joining the Barack Obama cabinet as the secretary of the department of veterans affairs. I talked to secretary designate on the eve of the inauguration.
Shinseki said, "I said yes. I am joining his administration very proud, very honored to be asked."
He was making an appearance at the Pearl Presidential Inaugural gala, a gathering of more than 1,500 people from across the nation, celebrating Asian-American heritage.
"Be proud of your culture, be proud of who you are , work hard and this is a great country and with culture and hard work you can do anything."
Shinseki was forced to resign as head of the army under the Bush administration when he gave a frank assessment of the Iraq war saying far more troops would have been needed for success.
Former Transportation Secretary, Norman Mineta says, "He was not treated well by Secretary Rumsfeld and the Deputy Secretary and so for President elect Barack Obama to pick Eric for Secretary of Veterans Affairs was master stroke."
Shinseki has clearly put that behind him, ready to serve his next President.
"Very exciting and aloha to all our friends in Hawaii looking forward to it and very excited looking forward to it this is about our veterans something about I have a great passion for," Shinseki added.
The culmination of Shinseki's role earns the praise of Senator Dan Inouye.
"You have a new administration that will bring the credibility of the United States back," says Inouye.
And with Obama in the White House, Shinseki on the cabinet - and Inouye himself chairing the senate's most powerful appropriations committee, there's just one way to sum up our Island stature.
"One can say that Hawaii runs the show," Inouye said.
What a better way for the Hawaii crowd to be gearing up for the big day that is Tomorrow Inauguration day. The official oath of office, the parade, more festivities and balls much like this--we'll be covering it all starting bright and early Tomorrow.Hawaii's prominence in the new administration also includes a cabinet appointee.... more

A National Day of Renewal and Reconciliation
Moments ago, in his first official act since taking the oath of office, President Barack Obama issued a proclamation, calling on Americans to serve one another and our common purpose on this National Day of Renewal and Reconciliation. Check it out below, or read it on the WhiteHouse.gov proclamations page.
NATIONAL DAY OF RENEWAL AND RECONCILIATION, 2009
- - - - - - -
BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION
As I take the sacred oath of the highest office in the land, I am humbled by the responsibility placed upon my shoulders, renewed by the courage and decency of the American people, and fortified by my faith in an awesome God.
We are in the midst of a season of trial. Our Nation is being tested, and our people know great uncertainty. Yet the story of America is one of renewal in the face of adversity, reconciliation in a time of discord, and we know that there is a purpose for everything under heaven.
On this Inauguration Day, we are reminded that we are heirs to over two centuries of American democracy, and that this legacy is not simply a birthright -- it is a glorious burden. Now it falls to us to come together as a people to carry it forward once more.
So in the words of President Abraham Lincoln, let us remember that: "The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature."
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim January 20, 2009, a National Day of Renewal and Reconciliation, and call upon all of our citizens to serve one another and the common purpose of remaking this Nation for our new century.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twentieth day of January, in the year of our Lord two thousand nine, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-third.Tuesday, January 20th, 2009 at 2:15 pm
