Long Beach Poly High School has sent more players to the NFL than any other high school in the United States. Head Coach Raul Lara has even mentored and helped train a number of those football stars in recent years. Here, Jacksonville Jaguars tight-end Marcedes Lewis looks back on the time he spent playing for Poly.
For Lewis, football was a core around which he could build a strong foundation. Coach Lara and Lewis' fellow Jackrabbits weren't just included in a team he loved, they were an integral part of what kept Lewis striving to better himself in and outside of school.
"I'm a strong-mind guy," Lewis says. "But I would've definitely got off track. Poly definitely gave me something to look forward to every day."
Thanks to the support of great coaches and supportive friends, Lewis graduated from Poly in 2002 and became known as the No. 1 tight end coming out of high school that year. In 2006, he was the 28th pick in the NFL Draft and has gone on to make it to the Pro Bowl, proud of his days at Long Beach Poly and eager to show other hopefuls what they can accomplish.
Tune in for the series premiere of "4th and Forever" Thursday, May 26 at 9/8c to see if this year's Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits have what it takes to succeed. In this exclusive "4th and Forever" web extra, Marcedes Lewis, NFL star and tight end for the Jacksonville Jaguars, talks about life as a Poly student and football player. Marcedes gives graduating seniors advice for their future.
"4th and Forever" chronicles the 2010 football season of Long Beach Polytechnic High School, touted by Sports Illustrated as the "Sports School of the Century" and boasts the largest roster of high school players who have gone on to the NFL. After decades of success, Poly had a down year in 2009. They had their worst season in 15 years and lost to local rival Lakewood for the first time in over 25 years. After years of being pegged as "the team to beat," the aura of invincibility is gone. The players are worried that their hopes for a college scholarship have dimmed. The clock is ticking and the question is: Can Head Football Coach Raul Lara pull the team together for one more season of greatness? And, can the players avoid the temptations of the street, succeed in the classroom, and emerge victorious on the field?
Tune in Thursdays at 9/8c for all-new episodes of "4th and Forever."

NFL Over/Under Season Win Totals-Mike Rodriguez
This is the Over and Under odds for team wins in the 2009 season. For those who don’t know, the numbers next to the win totals are the payouts as far as what you need to put up in order to place the bet. For example to bet on the Patriots to win Over 11.5 wins next year, you would have to put up $120 to win $100 (Over -120). If the odds are a positive number then it works the opposite way; for example to bet the Titans to not win more than 9.5 games next year (Under +120) you would win $120 on a $100 bet. It’s always easier to use a $100 bet to figure out how much you would need to bet, but is not required as a minimum to place a bet.NFL Over/Under Season Win Totals-Mike Rodriguez
