Antony really loves coffee. He loves coffee so much, he had to go and sing a whole aria in Italian.
The Italian coffee company Lavazza has recruited Antony to sing "Nessun Dorma", an aria from Giacomo Puccini's opera Turandot. (Via the Daily Swarm.)
You can hear Antony's take on the aria, backed by the Roma Sinfonietta Orchestra, here. "As a tribute to the Lavazza brand values, Antony decided to record the track in Italian," the Lavazza website says.
If you really needed any further proof that Antony can flat-out sing, it's there. Delivered in that inimitable heartbroken quaver, even an 83-year-old aria sounds like an Antony and the Johnsons song.

I loved Antony's haunting take on Beyoncé's "Crazy in Love" when I saw them live and I've been waiting for a proper studio version for ages. The video (premiering today on Pitchfork) is quite disappointing, though.I loved Antony's haunting take on Beyoncé's "Crazy in Love"... more

Peter’s off in South Carolina for a little summer R&R & BBQ, but luckily we’ve got a full house of eager and awesome interns here at Current Music. They’re filling in this week with a selection of cover songs that all scream summer to them.
That's Gnarls Barkley doing Radiohead's "Reckoner" up above, but also check out not one but two Beyonce reinventions (by Antony & the Johnsons and Alan Pownall), plus Jason Mraz, Belle & Sebastian, Ari Hest and the Easy Star All Stars.
Watch them all at: http://blogs.current.com/music/2009/06/19/cover-for-you/Peter’s off in South Carolina for a little summer R&R & BBQ, but luckily... more

The otherworldly chamber-pop singer Antony Hagerty has applied his flutey, haunting Nina Simone vocals to a number of covers, some more esoteric than others -- including Bob Dylan's "Knockin' On Heaven's Door," David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti's "Mysteries of Love," and Leonard Cohen's "If It Be Your Will."
This August 4, he will officially see Beyonce and raise her one white-boy Sasha Fierce with the release of the split single "Aeon/Crazy in Love," featuring his stunning orchestral take on B's 2003 smash. This live video doesn't quite do it justice, but it's a decent hint of what you can expect.

On Wednesday, Prada premiered the short film "Fallen Shadows" at an event coinciding with the release of their fall 2008 collection.
The animated film, directed by James Lima, is soundtracked by Antony and the Johnsons' "Great White Ocean", a new song recorded specifically for this project and not expected to be on a forthcoming release.
I'm not sure about the video (De Chirico meets Second Life?) but the song is lovely.
In other Antony and the Johnsons news, the Mercury-winning band will release an EP called "Another World" on October 7th. A full-length is expected in 2009 and will be premiered at the Barbican on October 30th and 31st in a special performance with the London Symphony Orchestra.
Antony also appears on Björk's forthcoming single "The Dull Flame of Desire," due September 29th.
