"It's not cute, funny, righteous, or justifiable in any way. This is just as odious as the gross violations that spurred the FISA battle. I hope whoever hacked into her email gets caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
At least one Republican personally knows how it feels to have someone look into her private communications without proper cause or approval. It would be nice if that spurred a renewed conservative embrace of privacy issues and support for those key Constitutional principles designed to protect us from the tyranny of government.
But I won't hold my breath."
i think his entry itself serves as a good example of how a small wrong could make bigger rights. attacking the privacy of someone from the party who tends to enjoy passing privacy-nullifying legislation seems like a brilliant way to reframe this issue to get broader sympathy. he errs on the side of pessimism, and maybe it's just because i hold my breath a lot in yoga that i'm erring on the side of -- dare i say it -- hope.

"Circa midnight Tuesday the 16th of September (EST) activists loosely affiliated with the group 'anonymous' gained access to U.S. Republican Party Vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin's Yahoo email account gov.palin@yahoo.com and passed information to Wikileaks. Governor Palin has come under criticism for using private email accounts to conduct government business and in the process avoid transparency laws. The zip archive made available by Wikileaks contains screen shots of Palin's inbox, two example emails, address book and a couple of family photos. The list of correspondence, together with the account name tends to re-enforce the criticism.
The list of emails include an exchange with Alaskan Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell about his campaign for Congress.
Another screenshot shows Palin's inbox and an e-mail from Amy McCorkell, whom Palin appointed to the Governor's Advisory Board on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse in 2007.
The e-mail, a message of support to Palin, tells her not to let negative press get to her and asks Palin to pray for McCorkell, who writes that "I need strength to 1. keep employment, 2. not have to choose."
According to Kim Zetter of Wired Magazine, McCorkell confirmed that she did send the e-mail to Palin. "
This could obviously be a fake, but it looks pretty legit to me. Not sure how I feel about hacking someones email though, however using private email to conduct political business is never a good sign.

WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR:
- Very recently an anonymous poster on /b/ claimed to have hacked Sarah Palin's Yahoo e-mail account.
- Sarah Palin used the e-mail address gov.sarah@yahoo.com for public communication. Several media outlets have confirmed this fact prior to this "incident".
SOURCE: http://thinkprogress.org/2008/09/10/palin-email-privilege/
SOURCE: http://www.commondreams.org/headline/2008/09/15-7
- The e-mail address that the poster hacked was gov.palin@yahoo.com. This second e-mail address, previously unknown publicly, was used for private communcations.
- Yahoo e-mail addresses, unlike .gov e-mail addresses, are not subject to archiving and oversight. This fact has led to controversy from several sources, including fellow Republicans, asking her to release e-mails from her Yahoo account.
- The anonymous poster apparently panicked, and released the password onto /b/.
- Several other posters on /b/ took screenshots of the Inbox and various e-mails.

Vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin's private Yahoo e-mail account was hacked, and some of its contents posted on the internet Wednesday.
The internet griefers known as Anonymous took credit for the intrusion, and screenshots of e-mail messages and photos belonging to the Alaska governor have been published by WikiLeaks. Threat Level has confirmed the authenticity of at least one of the e-mails.
The cache of stolen data contains five screenshots from Palin's account, including the text of an e-mail exchange with Alaska Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell about his campaign for Congress.
Another screenshot shows Palin's inbox and a third shows the text of an e-mail from Amy McCorkell, whom Palin appointed to the Governor's Advisory Board on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse in 2007.
The e-mail, a message of support to Palin, tells her not to let negative press get to her and asks Palin to pray for McCorkell, who writes that "I need strength to 1. keep employment, 2. not have to choose."
The Republican Party hasn't responded to a call for comment, but McCorkell, reached at her office, confirmed that she did send the e-mail to Palin.
A fourth screenshot shows an e-mail sent to Ivy Frye, a Palin aide, from someone claiming to belong to the group Anonymous advising that the person has changed the password to Palin's Yahoo account to prevent other members of Anonymous from accessing it again. The e-mail includes the new password.
The data posted by WikiLeaks also includes a list of Palin's e-mail contacts and two photos of her children.
Palin has come under fire for using private e-mail accounts to conduct state business. Critics allege that she uses the account to get around public records laws, as the Bush administration has also been charged with doing.
WikiLeaks said in a press release sent to reporters that Anonymous gained access to Palin's e-mail account around midnight Tuesday.Vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin's private Yahoo e-mail account was... more

Hackers broke into the email account used by Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, revealing inconsequential personal messages received since presidential candidate John McCain selected her as his running mate.
"This is a shocking invasion of the [Alaska] Governor's privacy and a violation of law. The matter has been turned over to the appropriate authorities and we hope that anyone in possession of these emails will destroy them," the McCain campaign said in a statement.
The Secret Service contacted The Associated Press and asked for copies of the leaked emails on her Yahoo! account, which circulated widely on the internet. The AP did not comply.
The disclosure raises new questions about the propriety of the Palin administration's use of non-government email accounts to conduct state business.
The practice was revealed months ago - before Mrs Palin's selection as a vice-presidential candidate - after political critics obtained internal emails documenting the practice by some aides.
One person whose email to Mrs Palin was apparently among those disclosed, Amy McCorkell, declined to discuss her correspondence.Hackers broke into the email account used by Republican vice-presidential candidate... more

So it would seem the good (kinda) folks on 4chan have hacked into Sarah Palin's Yahoo e-mail account recently, and have posted screenshots of it on numerous websites.
Now maybe I am cruel in this, but i think we can call this justice; due to the FISA bills the government can break the constitution to spy on us if we are deemed a "threat", so as the American people is it not our duty to spy on true threats to our country's well being? So it would seem the good (kinda) folks on 4chan have hacked into Sarah Palin's... more
