It is self-evident that no sickness can be successfully cured without proper diagnosis of the illness. In their frantic efforts to remedy the plague of national debt and deficit, however, US policy makers tend to shy away from the root causes of the problem and focus, instead, on scapegoats.
What are the root causes of the national debt and deficit? They are, first and foremost, the multi-trillion dollar bailout packages that were bestowed upon Wall Street in order to rescue the financial gamblers, the constantly escalating costs of war and militarism, the huge tax giveaways to the wealthy, and the skyrocketing costs of healthcare, systematically jacked up by the insurance and pharmaceutical companies.
And what are the scapegoats? They are the entitlements (Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid) and non-military discretionary spending: health, education, housing, transportation, the environment, community development, science and energy, human services, and the like. I call these items scapegoats because they are not the sources of the continued escalation of debt and deficit.

President Obama, who won the hearts and minds of the American people through a well funded & well executed media campaign in 2008, has set a goal to raise only $60 million for his re-election campaign in 2012. Even though that sounds like an outrageous amount of money, to compare, he was able to pull in $58.6 million during the first six months of his campaign in 2007, and when all was said and done, his 2008 election collected a reported total of $750 million.

At least 12 people were killed and two injured when a NATO air strike hit a bus Wednesday evening in Libya's Kikla city, 120 km southwest of capital Tripoli, Libyan state TV reported. The air strike hit the bus at the entrance of the city in the mountainous region southwest of Tripoli, Xinhua cited
the TV report quoting military sources as saying.
During the past several weeks, NATO forces have intensified strikes against Tripoli and the neighbouring areas.

Antiwar Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) filed suit in federal court Wednesday seeking to halt the U.S. military action in Libya, saying it is unconstitutional.
Kucinich and Republican Rep. Walter Jones of North Carolina, another longtime war critic, led a bipartisan group of lawmakers in the latest challenge to the White House's authority to conduct the campaign without seeking congressional approval under the War Powers Act.
"With regard to the war in Libya, we believe that the law was violated," Kucinich said. "We have asked the courts to move to protect the American people from the results of these illegal policies."

You would think that these meetings would be something that the mainstream media would want to cover. The head of the Iranian intelligence services has disclaimed the death of Osama Bin Laden in the US SEALs’ operation last week stating the Al Qaeda leader died from an illness he had. Osama was seriously ill and died from natural causes long before the US Special Forces attacked his residence in Pakistan, the report says.

Al Qaeda released a statement on jihadist forums Friday confirming the death of its leader, Osama bin Laden, according to SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors Islamist websites.
The development comes days after U.S. troops killed bin Laden in a raid on a compound in the Pakistani city of Abbottabad.
The statement, translated by SITE, lauded the late militant, threatened to take action against the United States, and urged Pakistanis to "rise up and revolt."
Bin Laden's death will serve as a "curse that chases the Americans and their agents, and goes after them inside and outside their countries," the message said.
"Soon -- with help from Allah -- their happiness will turn into sorrow, and their blood will be mixed with their tears," according to the statement, which CNN could not independently authenticate.

A scientist with the World Health Organization has testified, during ongoing hearings in Strasbourg, France, that the swine flu pandemic was part of an overblown “angst campaign”, devised in conjunction with major drug companies to boost profits for vaccine manufacturers.
