Despite its dark history of misuse, electroconvulsive therapy continues as a modern treatment for severe clinical depression. It is not successful in all patients, and there are many who believe the treatment should be banned. Due to the immense social stigma held by this treatment and members of the psychiatric community, the voices of those who have had positive experiences with ECT are often left unheard. The two women represented in this film offer their personal stories of hope to those who are suffering. Interviews with members of the film makers family and the Dukakis family are illustrated with 2D hand-painted animation.
