Hollywood decided to remake not only the best horror films it could find in the east but also its own classics. Added gore, 3D, silly titles, worthless sequels, and vacuous characters were the order of the day. So, to discover the best in horror cinema during the 2000s, audiences had to look elsewhere – to Europe, South America, and Australia. There were some gems to be found in the States, but many of the most unique and frightening horror experiences were to be found elsewhere.
Top10Films presents the Top 10 Horror Films of the 2000s. What do you think? What was your favourite horror film of the decade? Has the horror genre progressed or gone backward during the decade? He's the latest in a long line of film's lovable evil-doers that audiences end up cheering for despite how despicable the characters really are. Our buddy Butch Walker, who's been on Current TV a few times before, has a new album of his own (he's often better known writing and producing for others).
I Liked It Better When You Had No Heart is out on February 23. It's wry, clever and catchy, with an occasional edge to it that's all the more refreshing for how the self-awareness creeps in, laconically, to the songwritery vibe of the album. (I particularly like "Pretty Melody," in which he claims—rhyming with the title, of course—that he's "just another tattooed tragedy.")
Here's an exclusive clip of Butch talking about and performing "Don't You Think Someone Should Take You Home" acoustic:
If that's too sweet for you, be sure to check this album promo in the form of a short film. Panic! at the Disco's Brendon Urie plays himself, and/or a superfan who's paid $25,000 for the chance to spend a weekend at Butch's. Both singers are far better actors than I'd have imagined, particularly when it comes to a deadpan, creepy American Psycho homage.
I Liked It Better When You Had No Heart is available for pre-order from One Haven Music.

In a Blackbook interview, Mary Harron the unlikely source of Christan Bale's take on a yuppie serial killer in American Psycho:
It was definitely a process. We talked a lot, but he was in L.A. and I was in New York. We didn’t actually meet in person a lot, just talked on the phone. We talked about how Martian-like Patrick Bateman was, how he was looking at the world like somebody from another planet, watching what people did and trying to work out the right way to behave. And then one day he called me and he had been watching Tom Cruise on David Letterman, and he just had this very intense friendliness with nothing behind the eyes, and he was really taken with this energy. In a Blackbook interview, Mary Harron the unlikely source of Christan Bale's take... more

When you look at your reflection in your business card holder, I know you want to see a "killer" but not a Christian Bale/Patrick Bateman kind of killer. Not a PSYCHO. You want to see a killer of a person. An ace of a guy or gal. Not someone's pain in the ass. Disperse them carefully. Don't become that person whose card lies at the bottom of a purse where in a year's time a woman, when cleaning it out says, "Who the hell is this?" and trashes it. Watermarks, embossing--it doesn't matter--choose wisely my friends. Choose wisely. When you look at your reflection in your business card holder, I know you want to see... more

Miles Fisher offers a double bill of genius with his cover of The Talking Heads’ This Must be the Place, and an homage to the cult classic American Psycho. Miles Fisher–who spoofs the role of Christian Bale’s yuppie character in the music video–also stars in A&E’s The Cleaner. Not only does he share an uncanny resemblance to Christian Bale, but he’s a doppelganger for Tom Cruise too, having played him in the shitastic parody flick Superhero MovieMiles Fisher offers a double bill of genius with his cover of The Talking Heads’... more

An '80s-tinged musical adaptation of "American Psycho" has begun the development process and is aiming for Broadway.
The legit version of the 1991 Bret Easton Ellis novel, about a 1980s Wall Street banker who is also a serial killer, will come from the Johnson-Roessler Co., management-production company the Collective and XYZ Films. The three companies have partnered to acquire the rights to develop and produce the stage incarnation.
"Psycho" was previously adapted into a 2000 Lionsgate film that starred Christian Bale.
The development team has just begun the selection process for creatives to pen the score and the book. No timeline has been set for what is envisioned as a large-scale musical.
American Psycho is a graphically bloody novel, which juxtaposes Reagan-era decadence and gruesome killings, includes prominent references to bands of the era, a fact that contributed to the idea of turning the story into a musical. Sounds of the time will influence the new show's score.
