Impotent Germans everywhere will be raising a beer stein to toast the tenth anniversary of their saving grace - Viagra!
The famed little blue pill, which treats erectile dysfunction, first hit the German market on October 1, 1998. Since then, the wonder drug has undergone some major revamping, resulting in a variety of pills that can give a man stamina for anywhere from four hours to an entire weekend.
The lucrative sex market has motivated pharmaceutical companies to develop a number of pills similar to Viagra. BILD presents the options:
Cialis (offered since 2002, distributed by Eli Lilly) can keep a guy going for up to 36 hours and has thus been labelled ‘the weekend pill’.
Levitra (offered since 2003, co-distributed by Bayer and GlaxoSmithKline) lasts for 12 hours.
Over 30 million men in 120 countries have turned to the original Viagra over the past ten years, making the little blue pill a massive billion-dollar earner. In Germany alone, almost two million packages of the potent pill have been sold, totalling about €117 million.
