Corporate executives at Transocean, the company that operated the drilling rig that exploded killing 11 workers and causing the Mecondo spill in the Gulf of Mexico have given themselves huge bonuses claiming 2010 was their best safety record year ever.
----" Transocean President and Chief Executive Officer Steven L. Newman received about $4.3 million in cash bonuses and stock and option awards. With other compensation—such as pension increases and cost of living, housing, and automobile allowances—Newman earned $6.6 million in 2010, almost $1 million more than in 2009.
His base salary, $900,000 in 2010, will increase 22 percent to $1.1 million in 2011."-----
In addition, top executives are using proxy voting power to protect themselves from civil liability shifting financial responsibility from themselves to the companies shareholders for their actions.
-------" In the proxy, Transocean’s directors also ask shareholders to shelter “the Board of Directors and the executive management From liability for activities during fiscal year 2010.” The company is being sued by some shareholders for failing to monitor risk leading up to the spill."---------
Not only that, in the comments section, the author of the blog on Forbes Financial details how the company made a $94 million profit on insurance pay outs over the incident.
The author, Jeff MacMahon, has given me permission to post this link to his article on Forbes. I urge you to read his article for more details on these outrageous financial transactions by Transocean. I also hope you will look at other articles Jeff has posted on Forbes. We had a meeting. This is how it went.
John informed me that his internet connection isn’t working
We talked about memes.
Andrew instant messaged me
I gave him the code
Andrew called in
Andrew closed the meeting at 11:43.
Andrew asked me to send out this note, because I’m the funny guy.
Then I tried to tell him this joke: “I cured cancer, so my family could eat during the long cold winter.
He didn’t get it.
It was a joke about curing meat.
