James Bond has survived his toughest test yet - the bankruptcy of MGM studios - to live to fight for England another day.
Despite worries that Bond wouldn't be returning to the big screen for some time, it's been announced that the Ian Fleming hero to return to the screen next year in time for his 50th anniversary in film.
Sam Mendes, director of American Beauty, will direct the 23rd Bond film and Daniel Craig will star.
The latest Bond film hit the skids last year when MGM Studios filed for bankruptcy protection. The company has since been restructured.
The new owners of MGM, along with Bond producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, confirmed last night that 007 will be back on 9 November 2012. Production is set to begin at the end of this year.
Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan have been confirmed as the writers of the screenplay.

John Orloff, who penned Par Vantage's "A Mighty Heart," about the slain Wall Street Journal reporter, has been brought on to pen the screenplay for "Fleming," a biopic about Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond.
Leonardo DiCaprio shingle Appian Way is producing at Warner Bros., which will look at critical moments in the life of the colorful author and journalist. Andrew Lazar/Mad Chance also are producing.
