There’s a new company in town that I’m experimenting with called Task Rabbit that is a new form of employment that’s not exactly employment. At their website you can signup and go through a screening process that included a canned video interview and background check that once you pass gives you the chance to bid on tasks to do and if you’re chosen you get paid to do them. There’s a new company in town that I’m experimenting with called Task... more

Eight "pirates" have been arrested by the Russian authorities on suspicion of hijacking the cargo ship Arctic Sea by posing as stranded sailors whose engine had broken down.
The suspects were charged with Europe's first act of piracy in hundreds of years. But the motive behind the seizure remained a mystery as experts claimed the full story had yet to emerge
Anatoly Serdyukov, the Russian defence minister, said the armed gang had seized the cargo freighter at gunpoint in the Baltic Sea 26 days ago.
He revealed the pirates boarded the ship in Swedish waters and then took the vessel through the English Channel towards West Africa's Atlantic coast, almost 3,000 miles from its intended destination in Algeria. But the circumstances surrounding the incident and delays in the release of information by the Russian authorities continued to raise questions.
Mikhail Voitenko, the editor of Russian Maritime Bulletin-Sovfracht, said he had spoken to crew on the Arctic Sea, who remained in the dark as to the motives for the hijacking.
Mr Voitenko, who is an expert in piracy and maritime security, has suggested that the delays in reporting the hijacking, the low value of the ship's timber cargo – worth only £1 million – and the disabling of communications systems pointed beyond piracy to a more sinister conspiracy. He even hinted that Russian security forces could have been involved in the hijack at some stage.
Questions remain over how the Arctic Sea was able to sail Europe's sea lanes for over a week after the hijacking took place on Jul 24.The last contact with the ship was a routine radio check by British coastguards as it entered the English Channel on Jul 28.For unknown reasons, the boarding was not communicated by the ship's managers to police in Helsinki until the same day, too late for the Maritime and Coastguard Authority to be alerted to the existence of a hijacked vessel in the English Channel. The Arctic Sea continued to cruise Europe's waters, with a final signal from the vessel's automatic identification system (AIS) placing the "pirate" ship 50 miles south of Penzance on Jul 30.

LANDIKOTAL, Pakistan (Reuters) – Militants in northwest Pakistan hijacked 13 trucks carrying supplies for Western forces in Afghanistan on Monday as they passed through the Khyber Pass, a government official said.
Most supplies, including fuel, for U.S. and other Western forces battling a Taliban insurgency in landlocked Afghanistan are trucked through neighboring Pakistan, which is also facing growing militant violence.
Security along the road leading to the border has deteriorated this year and soldiers carried out a sweep in part of the Khyber region in June to push militants back from the outskirts of Peshawar, the main city in the northwest.
The trucks were seized at four places along a 35 km (20 mile) stretch of the road, said a senior government administrator in the Khyber region.
"About 60 masked gunmen popped up on the road and took away the trucks with their drivers. Not a single shot was fired anywhere," the official, Bakhtiar Mohmand, told Reuters.
