Michele Bachmann said Wednesday that it made no sense to heed influential Iowa conservative Bob Vander Plaats’ call to drop out of the race in Iowa, and added that she was the one with the momentum in the first caucus state.
POLITICO earlier reported that Vander Plaats had called Bachmann, asking her to drop out and endorse former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum.
“Yes, there was a call that was made,” said Bachmann on CBS’ “The Early Show.” “But it didn’t make sense, because my numbers have always been above those of Senator Santorum’s - it makes no sense for me to drop out.”
Bachmann insisted that she had the most support in Iowa among the religious voters that make up a crucial part of the state’s caucus-goers.

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) received another uncomfortable moment on the campaign trail about her anti-gay views Sunday evening.
According to CNN, the congresswoman and her husband Marcus encountered Kathy Schnell, a woman wearing a Bachmann sticker and holding up a sign saying “Gay-friendly Iowan.”
While smiling to sign the poster, Bachmann asked “Gay-friendly Iowan?”
Schnell proceeded to pick Bachmann’s brain on the number of America gays.
“I wonder if you’re aware that 10% of the population is gay?” she said. “And if you have 28 children, then 2.8 of those kids are very likely gay.”
Thinking that the GOP presidential candidate wasn’t listening to her, Schnell told her friend “She’s not listening to me.”
That prompted Bachmann to reply, “Well, that’s according to the Kinsey Report.”
A few seconds later, her husband Marcus jumped in and told Schnell, “Your facts are wrong.”
“That’s not valid?” Schnell replied back.
“No it isn’t,” he said. “No, it’s not at all. It’s been a myth for many years.”
The Kinsey reports are based on the two books written by Dr. Alfred Kinsey about human sexual behavior in 1948 and 1953. It is widely considered groundbreaking research that helped change popular perceptions about the size and make-up of America’s LGBT population.
This isn’t the first time Bachmann has been confronted on the campaign trail about her views on LGBT rights and the community at large.”
Two weeks ago, Bachmann encountered a 8-year-old who told her, “My mommy’s gay but she doesn’t need any fixing.”

Rep. Michele Bachmann’s speech from Patriots Point this evening was thrown askew by demonstrators.
About eight minutes into her address on national security, the presidential candidate was interrupted when approximately 30 Occupy Charleston members stood in orchestrated protest.
Initiating calls for “mike check!” were followed by an organized alert of respectful intent: “this will only take a minute,” the group announced collectively.
“We have a message for Ms. Bachmann,” they continued in organized address, specifying needs for the government to represent citizens instead of corporations. “This does not help the American people,” was the thematic conclusion of Occupy Charleston’s demonstration, which was sporadically interrupted by other attendees.
Bachmann left the podium escorted by police shortly after the interruption. When Occupy Charleston peacefully left the hosting USS Yorktown facility, chanting “we are the 99 percent” in their exit, Bachmann returned to complete her address.

Economics: Presidential candidates slip on Econ 101
Every 2012 contender attended college. They all graduated. They went to schools like the University of Pennsylvania, Columbia, Texas A&M, Morehouse, Penn State and Emory. But decades have passed since these Presidential candidates first stepped onto campus as freshmen. Is it time for an Econ 101 refresher course?
America's Econ 101 professors say yes. In their view, the candidates continue to offer ideas and policies that wouldn't pass muster in their classes -- populated by 18 year-old college students.
"There are so many economic 'misstatements' being made," said Jonathan Lanning, a professor at Bryn Mawr who is teaching two introductory economics classes this semester. "And it isn't confined to any one candidate."
Michele Bachmann promised to bring back $2 gas. Tim Pawlenty suggested sustained 5% GDP growth was a realistic target. Rick Perry would balance the budget with lower tax revenues. No dice, say the professors.
