" Michele Bachmann has her eye on a new front in the War on Terror: Havana.
At an event in Iowa on Monday, the poll-plummeting candidate warned of a new potential Cuban missile crisis — involving Hezbollah.
“And the question was asked, should we normalize trading with Cuba? Why would you normalize trading with a country that sponsors terror?” Bachmann said. “Cuba — there’s reports that have come out that Cuba has been working with another terrorist organization called Hezbollah. And Hezbollah is potentially looking at wanting to be part of missile sites in Iran.
“And, of course, when you’re 90 miles offshore from Florida, you don’t want to entertain the prospect of hosting bases or sites where Hezbollah could have training camps or perhaps have missile sites or weapons sites in Cuba. This would be foolish.”

(AP/The Huffington Post) CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Eclipsed by Rick Perry, Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann dismissed concerns on Monday about the strength of her campaign and told supporters that she alone has the best conservative credentials to be president.
"I've got the complete skill set to do this job," she told roughly 35 people in a half-full hotel ballroom on a rainy day.
When asked by NBC News about her eighth place finish in the Florida straw poll last weekend, Bachmann downplayed the results of the competition, which was won by former Godfather's Pizza CEO Herman Cain. The conservative congresswoman locked up roughly 1.5 percent of the vote in the event.
Bachmann explained, “We put our effort and our money and our time here in Iowa in the straw poll because this straw poll in Iowa was crucial." She added, "We had let it be known early on, and we released our supporters in Florida because there are straw polls all across the country right now."
While in the Hawkeye State, Bachmann repeatedly urged people not to settle on a moderate candidate who is seen as better able to cobble together the diverse coalition of voters needed to beat President Barack Obama.
"This message has to be driven home by conservatives: We can't settle. We can't settle. We have to have a candidate who has it all," she said. "Who is a fiscal conservative, and I am. Who is a national security -- peace through strength conservative -- like Ronald Reagan was. And I am. And we have to have someone who is a social conservative, who believes in the family. And I do. And we need a Tea Party conservative, and I am."
While she didn't name any of her rivals, she suggested some of them could not be trusted to repeal Obama's health care law. She also suggested they did not understand foreign policy as well as she does and that they were compromised because they had done favors for political donors, comments apparently directed at Perry, the Texas governor competing with her for voters in Iowa's first-in-the-nation caucuses next year.
The three-term Minnesota congresswoman has struggled since winning the Iowa straw poll in August -- the same day that Perry got into the race and took away some of her support among conservatives. She once sat atop national public opinion polls but now only registers single-digit support.
Bachmann thanked the people who showed up and seemed to try to justify the relatively light attendance.
"I know it was short notice," she said, "it's in the middle of the day, everyone's at work, it's a rainy day, there's a lot of places you can be." She shook nearly every hand in the room and signed autographs.
She dismissed suggestions that her campaign was floundering, saying voters would pick the nominee, not the news media. And she said she believes she is "positioned perfectly right now" to compete for the nomination because conservatives are looking for someone with her fiery message and record of opposing Obama.

Considering the fact that no real votes will be cast until next year and considering the fact that the polls are constantly changing, shouldn't all of the candidates participating in the Republican debates be given roughly the same amount of time to talk? After all, what kind of a "debate" is it when certain candidates are given double (or sometimes even triple) the amount of talking time? Why is it that Rick Perry and Mitt Romney have been getting about twice as much talking time as the other candidates during the Republican debates? It is amazing that more people are not calling into question the credibility of these "debates". Whether you support one of the Republican candidates or not, we should all be able to agree that one of the goals for these debates should be to treat the candidates as fairly and evenly as possible. Unfortunately, as the numbers you are about to see indicate, that is definitely not happening.Considering the fact that no real votes will be cast until next year and considering... more

Increasingly irrelevant Republican presidential candidate/human punchline Michele Bachmann just can’t get a break. Nor does she deserve one. A trip to California over the weekend saw the bigoted Christianist Congresswoman from Minnesota’s 6th congressional district the target of a flash mob who danced to Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” to protest her (more or less) “pro-bullying” stance (it’s what Jesus would want) and anti-LGBT words, deeds and activities as a private citizen, as a state legislator, and as a member of the US Congress since 2007.
Even Jay Leno piled on when she appeared on the Tonight Show and good for him. This woman and her kind need to be rebuked in no uncertain terms by right-thinking people in this country.
Even in normally ultra-conservative Orange County, Bachmann got the business. I guess the new OC is quite a bit different that the old OC.

The presidential candidacies of Rick Perry and Michelle Bachmann have already proved one thing about the 2012 election – the religious right is going to once again play a massive role in electing Republicans. Both Perry and Bachmann have developed their worldviews based on the Re-Constructionist movement within the religious right, a movement that believes in a strict, literal interpretation of the Bible. Mike Papantonio talks about how dangerous the religious right will be in 2012 with Frank Schaeffer, author of the new book “Sex, Mom, and God: How the Bible's Strange Take on Sex Led to Crazy Politics--and How I Learned to Love Women (and Jesus) Anyway.”

A group of gay activists staged a flash mob on Saturday in front of the California Republican convention aimed at sending a message to Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) over her homophobic remarks and her husband, Marcus Bachmann’s controversial ex-gay reparative therapy performed on patients at the couple’s Minnesota clinic.

GOP presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann on Friday predicted California would side with Republicans in 2012, a distinct improbability given voting registration trends and recent history in the Golden State.
"I'm here to announce to you tonight, we will take our country back in 2012 and together we will make Barack Obama a one-term president," Bachmann told about 400 people at a dinner at the California Republican Party convention.
"President Obama's numbers are the lowest they have ever been and I'm just here to say they haven't hit rock bottom yet. I think Election Day in 2012 will probably be the lowest they are yet, that's why I know … that we have got a message and we have got a winning streak," she said. "I firmly believe 2012 will be a blowout election…. I believe 2012 will be a wave election that goes all the way across the United States, it will even take in the Golden State, I am so excited."
Bachmann's comments notwithstanding, a recent USC/Los Angeles Times poll showed Obama with expansive leads over the major Republican candidates, including Bachmann. The last Republican nominee to win the state in a general election was George H.W. Bush, who eked out a narrow victory over Democrat Michael Dukakis in 1988.

AMES, Iowa — She danced with babies, flipped burgers for hungry tailgaters and hugged fans outside Jack Trice Stadium on Saturday morning, but Minnesota U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann insisted the politicking was not a Hail Mary for her campaign.
"We've been in Iowa 70 days, and I think what we've been known for is our time with people and talking to people and so that's why we're here today with people again," Bachmann told reporters after 50 minutes of mingling amid the recreational vehicles, "and we're here for football."
After shake-ups among her top staff, slipping poll numbers and an overshadowed performance in the most recent debate, political observers recently began to predict Bachmann's campaign was headed for the political graveyard.
Then, U.S. Rep. Steve King, R-Kiron, a top Iowa conservative, publicly advised the congresswoman to "just dive right into the mosh pit, and go out there and campaign and be yourself," to regain momentum in the state.
