And an assistant DA in the same county was recently murdered. The DA had made mention in an interview he thought white supremacists were involved.
And a white supremacist is suspected of killing the head of prisons in Colorado last month.
Scary.
Here's a couple paragraphs from the article:
"(Murdered prosecutor) McLelland himself, in an Associated Press interview, raised the possibility that Hasse was gunned down by a white supremacist gang. McLelland, elected DA in 2010, said that Hasse hadn't prosecuted any cases against white supremacists but that his office had handled several, and those gangs had a strong presence in the area.
"We put some real dents in the Aryan Brotherhood around here in the past year," McLelland said after Colorado's corrections director, Tom Clements, was shot to death March 19 when he answered the doorbell."

A controversial hearing on the radicalization of the American Muslim community has opened today on Capitol Hill, led by New York Republican Rep. Peter King. Critics have described the hearings as a modern-day form of McCarthyism designed to stoke fear against American Muslims. King has refused calls to broaden the hearing to examine right-wing militias or any non-Muslim groups. We speak with Mark Potok, director of Intelligence Project at the Southern Poverty Law Center. Today, police arrested a suspect in Colville, Wash., in connection with the attempted bombing of a Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade in Spokane.
The suspect is believed to be tied to the National Alliance, founded by William Pierce, author of the Turner Diaries.
This bombing could have been a major tragedy if not for the sharp eyes of some bystanders, who saw the suspicious backpack along the parade route.
These people have not gone away. They are still out there, especially in the Pacific Northwest.

Gay conservative group GOProud's participation in the CPAC conference has caused controversy among conservatives. Will the participation of the Youth for Western Civilization cause the same stir?
The nationwide student group is among the exhibitors at this year's CPAC conference. The following is their mission statement, according to their website.
"We have the self-evident right and duty to work for the survival of our own culture and civilization. There is no reason to believe that the advances of modernity and the political freedoms we enjoy will endure with the extinction of the civilization that allowed them to exist. Western Civilization is our civilization and in spite of the continual assault and hatred it endures from the radical left, we wish to revive the West, rather than see our civilization be sent to the graveyard of history."

There's another infamous shooting of a nine-year-old girl that is making headlines this week in Tucson. This time, we wonder if the rest of the media will bother to cover it.
The little girl's name was Brisenia Flores. She lived near the border with her parents and sister outside the town of Arivaca, Arizona. On May 30 of 2009, a woman named Shawna Forde, who led an offshoot unit of Minutemen who ran armed border patrols for patriotic "fun". Forde's gang had decided to go "operational," which meant they concocted a scheme to raid drug smugglers and take their money and drugs and use it to finance a border race war and "start a revolution against the government". They targeted the Flores home, which had neither money nor drugs, based on dubious information. They convinced Flores to let them in by claiming to be law-enforcement officers seeking fugitives, then shot him point-blank in the head when he questioned them and wounded his wife, Gina Gonzalez. And then, while she pleaded for her life, they shot Brisenia in cold blood in the head. (Her sister, fortunately, was sleeping over at a friend's.)
As Terry Greene Sterling at the Daily Beast reports, Shawna Forde's trial finally opens this week, having been briefly delayed by the Giffords shooting.
Already, we're getting some fascinating details about that riveting 911 call:
Gonzalez testified Tuesday she recognized Forde for several reasons. It was the first time she'd seen her in person since the incident, she wasn't wearing makeup (the women in the photo lineup were wearing makeup), she had the same smile and her hair was styled the same way.
As for the smile, Gonzalez said that after the shootings, the home invaders ransacked her house and then left. However, when she was on the phone with 911, she looked up and saw the woman standing on the threshold, smiling.
"She saw me standing there and her face dropped and she said 'Oh, (expletive)," Gonzalez said.
The woman went back outside and a few seconds later Gonzalez said she and the tall man exchanged shots. (Prosecutors think the tall guy was Jason Bush.)
We've been following the Forde case closely from the day it was first reported, in large part because it tells us so much about the mindset and behind-the-scenes operations of would-be border vigilantes.
Indeed, one of the things we look forward most to learning from this trial is the extent to which Minutemen cofounder Jim Gilchrist was involved: there is a considerable likelihood it will turn out he tipped off Forde that federal authorities were looking for her in connection with the murders.
We're also looking forward to perhaps finally seeing some coverage of the case in the mainstream media -- perhaps even Fox News, which has been assiduous in refusing to do so. I have to admit I'm baffled that, in a cable-TV business that prizes riveting audio snippets, it's gotten so little attention elsewhere.
But then, this case always cut against everyone's favorite "neighborhood watch" narrative. It's about time we laid that one to rest for good.

Neighbor says Ariz. suspect's parents blame selves.
----------------------------------------------------------
It's a simple, single-level ranch house with a yard overgrown with cactus and shrubbery, on a quiet, nondescript Tucson, Ariz., street. But inside, there's turmoil.
This is the home of Jared Loughner, charged with firing a bullet into the brain of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and killing six other people, including a child. The 22-year-old suspect was arrested shortly after Saturday's killings and appeared in a Phoenix court on Monday.
But his parents, Randy and Amy Loughner, are still believed to be inside their home, unable to conjure up the courage to face the public. A piece of plywood blocks the gate to their home, to keep curious journalists off their front porch. The sole neighbor who's been allowed inside said the two are crying uncontrollably.
Shaun Tandon, AFP / Getty Images
Pictured is the house in Tucson, Ariz., where Jared Loughner lived with his parents. Neighbors said the parents apparently have set up a wooden gate to keep out intruders from their home, which is under constant watch from the media.
"They can't talk without breaking down," neighbor Wayne Smith told Tucson TV station KVOA. "They're hurting."
Smith said Randy Loughner has drafted a statement to the media, which he'll release when he feels up to it. But that could be several days, Smith said. The couple is apparently sick with grief and shame.
"It's just as bad on them as it is anybody else," Smith told KTAR-620 radio. "It wasn't them that did this heinous thing. It was an individual who's their son.
"She's in really bad shape, and we're hoping we don't have to take her to the hospital," Smith continued. He didn't specify what kind of medical problem Amy Loughner has. "He's a mess, and she's worse."
Smith said that while he doesn't know Randy and Amy Loughner very well, the couple let him inside their home and asked him to collect their mail on Monday so they didn't have to go outside and face a crowd of reporters. He's apparently one of the only people they knew on the block, even though they've lived there since before Jared was born.
Smith said the couple were weeping during his whole visit. "Just crying, doing their best, you know. They're hurting," Smith told KTAR-620. They were able to say little, but told Smith they have no idea why their son would shoot anyone.
Randy married Amy Totman in 1986. He became a stay-at-home father after Jared was born in 1988, while Amy worked for the county, according to ABC News. Neighbors said the Loughner household became more isolated from them as Jared, an only child, grew older.
"There was times when we'd be out with other neighbor kids, and Jared wouldn't be allowed out. He'd be watching from the window or door," Rick Dahlstrom told ABC. "They all became very isolated. Randy was isolated, Amy wasn't out anymore. Something changed. They just kept to themselves."
Other neighbors described the Loughner family as quiet and withdrawn. "They liked their privacy," George Gayan, a retired mechanic who's lived next door to the Loughners for three decades, told The Wall Street Journal. Sometimes "I didn't see him for three or four days," he said, referring to Randy Loughner.
The next-door neighbor on the other side, Stephen Woods, told the newspaper he had arguments with Loughner over uncollected trash in front of their homes. At one point, Randy Loughner spotted Woods in a Wal-Mart parking lot and screamed at him, "Trash people!" Woods recalled. He described his neighbor as vituperative and hostile.
Smith, who has lived across the street since 1972, told the Journal he didn't even know the family's last name until after Saturday's shootings.
It was Smith who broke the news of Saturday's rampage to the Loughners. He said the couple returned from grocery shopping, their peeling white Chevy truck loaded with bags, to find sheriff's deputies in their driveway. Police were cordoning off the property with crime scene tape. Smith had watched news of the shootings on TV and walked up to the Loughners and told them he'd heard their son was a suspect.
"She almost passed out right there," Smith told the Journal about Amy Loughner's reaction. "He sat in the road with the tape up and cried."http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/41014125/ns/us_news-crime_and_courts?gt1=43001

SAN FRANCISCO (JTA) -- Jewish groups have stepped up efforts to combat anti-Muslim bigotry, with several national initiatives announced this week and supporting statements coming in from a range of Jewish voices.
In Washington, officials from several Jewish organizations took part Tuesday in an emergency summit of Jewish, Christian and Muslim leaders that denounced anti-Muslim bigotry and called for a united effort by believers of all faiths to reach out to Muslim Americans.
Also Tuesday, the Anti-Defamation League announced the creation of an Interfaith Coalition on Mosques, which will monitor and respond to instances of anti-Muslim bias surrounding attempts to build new mosques in the United States.
Meanwhile, six rabbis and scholars representing the Reconstructionist, Reform, Conservative and Orthodox streams have launched an online campaign urging rabbis to devote part of their sermons this Shabbat to educating their congregations about Islam.
The efforts come in response to what organizers describe as a wave of anti-Muslim sentiment resulting from the impending ninth anniversary of 9/11 and the controversy surrounding efforts to build a Muslim community center and mosque near Ground Zero in Manhattan. Jewish bloggers and pundits, mostly on the right, have become more vocal in opposing the center and calling for greater scrutiny of American mosques.
Among the Jewish leaders at the emergency summit was Rabbi David Saperstein, director of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism.
“As Jews, we could be nowhere else today,” said Saperstein, whose organization co-sponsored Tuesday's interfaith summit with the Islamic Society of North America.
“We have been the quintessential victims of religious persecution … and we know what happens when people are silent,” he said, explaining why clergy and believers of all faiths need to be more forceful in speaking out against anti-Muslim bigotry. “We have to speak more directly to the anti-Muslim bigotry in America today.”
Leaders of the mainstream Protestant, evangelical Christian, Baptist and Catholic churches, Muslim organizations and several Jewish streams issued a joint statement Tuesday after their summit “to denounce categorically the derision, misinformation and outright bigotry being directed against America’s Muslim community.”
In addition to the Religious Action Center, representatives from the Reconstructionist and Conservative movements, the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding, and the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, an umbrella organization of more than 125 Jewish community relations councils and 14 national agencies, including the four major Jewish streams, also attended the summit.
The National Council of Jewish Women released a statement Tuesday denouncing Islamaphobia, decrying anti-Muslim bigotry and noting that “extremists who use Islam as a justification for their heinous acts of terrorism should not be allowed to dictate the character of the entire religion.”
The group of interfaith leaders met later in the day with U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to coordinate parallel efforts with the government to combat anti-Islam sentiment.
The joint statement calls upon clergy of all faiths to denounce anti-Muslim bigotry and hate violence from their pulpits, and asserts that “leaders of local congregations have a special responsibility to teach with accuracy, fairness and respect about other faith traditions.”SAN FRANCISCO (JTA) -- Jewish groups have stepped up efforts to combat anti-Muslim... more

A US appeals court has ruled a couple who gave their children Nazi-inspired names should not regain custody, citing the risk of serious injury to them.
Adolf Hitler Campbell, 4, and his sisters, JoyceLynn Aryan Nation, 3, and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie, 2, were taken from their New Jersey home in 2009.
The case first came to public attention in December 2008 after a shop refused to decorate a birthday cake for Adolf.
A family court had earlier found there was insufficient evidence of abuse.
But on Thursday, the appeals panel determined that social workers had proved the need for protective services for the three children.
The panel found that the parents, who both suffer from unspecified physical and psychological disabilities, had "recklessly created a risk of serious injury to their children by failing to protect the children from harm and failing to acknowledge and treat their disabilities".
The judges also noted that Deborah Campbell had recently passed a letter to a neighbour saying her husband had threatened "to have me killed or kill me himself".

(CBS) According to the Justice Department, 27,000 gangs with 788,000 members operate in this country. Chief investigative correspondent Armen Keteyian gives us a look at a heavily armed, and very dangerous white supremacist gang.
Posing as a gun-runner an undercover ATF agent opened a door into the rarely-seen world of white supremacists. They're ultra-violent, sophisticated, and less interested in a pure white race, than the color of money.
"Their criminal activity was first, robberies, burglaries, drug sales, firearms, arms trafficking, and then I think their white rhetoric and passing along their message for recruiting was second," the undercover agent said.
During the course of a 2 1/2-year undercover operation, the ATF agent met with white supremacist gang members at a hangout in Omaha, and other locations around town, setting up deals for drugs, guns and ammo.
The leader of the eight-member group, identified by the signature red suspenders, is Jason "Skin" Hawthorne - a three-time felon. Virtually his entire crew had done time in federal prison - the breeding ground, experts say, for white supremacists.
"What has happened in the last 10 or 15 years is that we have seen these gangs increasingly spilling out of the prisons and onto the street," said Mark Potok, Director of the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Particularly in California and Texas, and now spreading across Midwestern states, nearly 5,000 white supremacists are in prison today. Experts estimate that number could be 50,000 nationwide - distinguished by an unceasing appetite for violence.
The undercover ATF agent was concerned about their "constant talk of violent activity," and "their lack of respect for human life as a whole." He added, "for them, I think it was a way of life."
ATF agents working what was known as "Operation Red Swastika" called this gang the "worst of the worst." They cited the use of stun guns - stronger than those used by federal agents, radio scanners, and virtual carbon-copies of SWAT team outfits. Skin and his crew were wearing the SWAT outfits the night they showed up at the undercover agent's apartment, ready to rob what they thought was a drug dealer but was actually an ATF sting.
The undercover agent said they were "ready to go," with "black hats, black coats, pants, black boots, surveillance equipment, and GPS tracker."
Before they did that, some of the crew decided to get amped-up for the action - by smoking meth.
"They sat at my table, loaded their guns, and smoked methamphetamines," the undercover agent said. "It definitely took things to a different level."
So did a surprising phone call. AFT supervisor Mickey Leadingham informed his agent his wire was no longer working.
"My words were, hey, you're flying solo. And he knew what that meant," Leadingham said.
A small army of law enforcement officers waited in a nearby parking lot and arrested all eight men without incident.
"It was a relief. I was glad it was over," the undercover agent said. "At least I thought it was over.";cbsCarousel

We can laugh at the desperate people who threaten violence against elected officials. But they are not the fools. We are.
March 31, 2010 |
The language of violence always presages violence. I watched it in war after war from Latin America to the Balkans. The impoverishment of a working class and the snuffing out of hope and opportunity always produce angry mobs ready to kill and be killed. A bankrupt, liberal elite, which proves ineffectual against the rich and the criminal, always gets swept aside, in times of economic collapse, before thugs and demagogues emerge to play to the passions of the crowd. I have seen this drama. I know each act. I know how it ends. I have heard it in other tongues in other lands. I recognize the same stock characters, the buffoons, charlatans and fools, the same confused crowds and the same impotent and despised liberal class that deserves the hatred it engenders.
"We are ruled not by two parties but one party," Cynthia McKinney, who ran for president on the Green Party ticket, told me. "It is the party of money and war. Our country has been hijacked. And we have to take the country away from those who have hijacked it. The only question now is whose revolution gets funded."
The Democrats and their liberal apologists are so oblivious to the profound personal and economic despair sweeping through this country that they think offering unemployed people the right to keep their unemployed children on their nonexistent health care policies is a step forward. They think that passing a jobs bill that will give tax credits to corporations is a rational response to an unemployment rate that is, in real terms, close to 20 percent. They think that making ordinary Americans, one in eight of whom depends on food stamps to eat, fork over trillions in taxpayer dollars to pay for the crimes of Wall Street and war is acceptable. They think that the refusal to save the estimated 2.4 million people who will be forced out of their homes by foreclosure this year is justified by the bloodless language of fiscal austerity. The message is clear. Laws do not apply to the power elite. Our government does not work. And the longer we stand by and do nothing, the longer we refuse to embrace and recognize the legitimate rage of the working class, the faster we will see our anemic democracy die.
The unraveling of America mirrors the unraveling of Yugoslavia. The Balkan war was not caused by ancient ethnic hatreds. It was caused by the economic collapse of Yugoslavia. The petty criminals and goons who took power harnessed the anger and despair of the unemployed and the desperate. They singled out convenient scapegoats from ethnic Croats to Muslims to Albanians to Gypsies. They set in motion movements that unleashed a feeding frenzy leading to war and self-immolation. There is little difference between the ludicrous would-be poet Radovan Karadzic, who was a figure of ridicule in Sarajevo before the war, and the moronic Glenn Beck or Sarah Palin. There is little difference between the Oath Keepers and the Serbian militias. We can laugh at these people, but they are not the fools. We are.
The longer we appeal to the Democrats, who are servants of corporate interests, the more stupid and ineffectual we become. Sixty-one percent of Americans believe the country is in decline, according to a recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, and they are right. Only 25 percent of those polled said the government can be trusted to protect the interests of the American people. If we do not embrace this outrage and distrust as our own it will be expressed through a terrifying right-wing backlash.
"It is time for us to stop talking about right and left," McKinney told me. "The old political paradigm that serves the interests of the people who put us in this predicament will not be the paradigm that gets us out of this. I am a child of the South. Janet Napolitano tells me I need to be afraid of people who are labeled white supremacists but I was raised around white supremacists. I am not afraid of white supremacists. I am concerned about my own government. The Patriot Act did not come from the white supremacists, it came from the White House and Congress. Citizens United did not come from white supremacists, it came from the Supreme Court. Our problem is a problem of governance. I am willing to reach across traditional barriers that have been skillfully constructed by people who benefit from the way the system is organized."We can laugh at the desperate people who threaten violence against elected officials.... more

In an effort to save former blogger and radio talk show host Hal Turner from years in prison, the Family of Hal Turner blog has posted pages from a heavily redacted trial transcript.
Turner, described as a patriot by the Family of Hal Turner, was placed on the periphery of the patriot movement in order to discredit the movement with his racist tirades. He began his career as “Hal from North Bergen” (New Jersey) by calling into neocon talk shows including shows hosted by Bob Grant and Sean Hannity. He went on to serve as campaign manager for Libertarian Party candidate Murray Sabrin in New Jersey in the 1990s, including a 1997 gubernatorial campaign. Turner later joined up with the white nationalist group National Vanguard.
The FBI, under its long-running COINTELPRO, subsidized, armed, directed and protected the Klu Klux Klan and other racist groups.
As the Department of Homeland Security’s leaked document on “rightwing extremism” reveals, the government is more interested in “domestic terrorism” (opposition to the government and the ruling elite) than any imagined foreign threat (including Iraqi resistance fighters and the manufactured terror group al-Qaeda, now back in vogue in the wake of the underwear bomber false flag operation). In an effort to save former blogger and radio talk show host Hal Turner from years in... more

A group waving flags adorned with swastikas traded insults with and challenged a crowd of about 250 onlookers from behind yellow wooden barricades manned by police including SWAT members during a midday protest Saturday.
After an hour of loud protesting by white supremacists, who were countered by a silent demonstration, police ended the two downtown rallies at 12:30 p.m.
While a police sniper watched from the roof of the police station, 22 members of white supremacist groups, shouted obscenities and made obscene hand gestures. One man, who had a crew cut and wore a black uniform, told the crowd of onlookers, "Wake up white America!"
"We were out there to denounce the violence," said Belleville resident Jason Bonn, who is a corporal with the National Socialist Movement, a group with a name similar to the Nazi Party of Germany during World War II. Bonn’s group is "fighting for white civil rights."
Around the corner from the shouting protesters on West Washington Street, several dozens participated in a silent counter-rally on South Illinois Street. The Rev. John Curry, of Conqueror’s Christian Center in Belleville organized the counter protest: "Our message is to preach love for all groups, skinheads, KKK, Nazis, all groups. Hate has got to stop. Our message is silent love."
The white supremacist rally was held in response to a Sept. 14 attack on a Belleville West High School bus, where two black students beat a white student. Members of the National Socialist Movement were joined by other pro-white groups and held signs that said, "It was a hate crime."
