Catherine Hardwicke started out as a production designer on such films as Tank Girl and Three Kings before she became a director -- she got the idea for her writing/directing debut Thirteen when actress Nikki Reed, a friend's daughter, went through some tough times as she was doing design on Antitrust. Since then, Hardwicke's helmed Lords of Dogtown, the first Twilight film, and now Red Riding Hood, starring Amanda Seyfried as the titular character. The director talks about the twisted turns she took with her version of the classic fairy tale, and how chocolate got her actors in a frenzy.

Looks like KO! magazine reports that Tank girl has broken up with her mutated Kangaroo boyfriend Booga. Yep even the comic world can have its tabloid moments and here's the latest news, since Wonder Women went for jeggings.
"Titan Magazines have created a very entertaining mock-celeb gossip mag to report the tragic new that Tank Girl and her mutated kangaroo life partner Booga are no longer an item.
Apparently she just can’t stand it any more.

A spokesman for the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office says the 45-year-old "Tank Girl" actress was charged Friday with two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence with injuries stemming from a May 30 arrest.
Petty was arrested after allegedly hitting a skateboarder with her car in the city's Venice Beach area.
Spokesman Frank Mateljan says the actress was also charged with driving without proof of insurance. She is set to be arraigned June 25.A spokesman for the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office says the 45-year-old... more

Hollywood nearly killed Tank Girl. Dodgy movies have a way of doing that to people. Tank Girl's creators, writer Alan Martin and artist Jamie Hewlett, would be the first to say the 1995 big screen incarnation of the cult comic strip character, which they had zero control over, wasn't all that it should have been. Indeed they might even say it was a "shit sandwich" (well, actually, Martin did). Fortunately, Tank Girl's superhuman, and her f**k you spirit would never allow a bunch of scummy film execs and industry cheese weasels to have the last word. Down but not out, after a hiatus of over a decade, she put her Tank Boots back on, and kicked, screamed and farted her way back from near oblivion, with a little help from Martin.
In the process of documenting Tank Girl's past for a best-of book called The Cream of Tank Girl (out October 2008), Martin found a renewed passion for his foul-mouthed, mutant kangaroo-humping friend. Original draftsman Jamie Hewlett may have moved on to pastures new with Damon Albarn and their virtual Gorillaz band, but Tank Girl has found new pen pals to roughhouse with.
With a slew of fresh Tank Girl adventures already in print, in the bag, and on the horizon, Martin and his badly behaved progeny are smashing ("Sleesh! Plock! Glump!") their way into one of their most prolific periods ever. We sat down for a long distance chat with Martin, and took a gander at what the future holds for Tank Girl....
