Ron Paul supporters will try to do this weekend what they weren't able to do in the state's Republican presidential primary.
After being shut out from gaining any delegates in February, the Texas representative's supporters will try to win delegate elections at the state party's convention at Cobo Center.
Michigan will send 59 delegates to the August national convention, where Mitt Romney is only a presumed presidential nominee, the race is not over.
But just 30 of those delegates will get to vote because of penalties against the state party for holding the GOP primary earlier than national party rules allowed.
Romney eked out a win over former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum here and earned 16 of the state's voting delegates. Since Santorum left the presidential race, his 14 delegates will head to the national convention as "uncommitted."
The people who will cast those votes for Michigan in Tampa will be elected Friday and Saturday and Paul supporters are trying to be among them.
"Because the way state party rules prevent us from winning state delegates in Michigan, if we win any national delegates that would be a big victory," said Adam de Angeli, the Michigan coordinator for the Paul campaign.
But Paul backers may face challenges because of recent fraud at most of the caucuses so far from insiders of the Establishmnet GOP. Republican Party Roberts rules 38 says, delegates are not bound to cast their first votes based on primary results, giving Romney votes but can vote for Ron Paul instead.
Paul has stop campaining in some states but is STIL in this Presidential race. The grassroots strategy has had success, with Paul winning the majority of Maine's delegates even though Romney won the state's nonbinding caucus which doesn't really count in the long run. Paul is eyeing delegate pickups at the Minnesota state convention, where he'll campaign this weekend.
His national campaign has not backed any official action in Michigan this weekend. Tonight, 28 voting delegates will be chosen at the 14 congressional-district level caucuses. Two at-large delegates will be elected Saturday.
Also tonight, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty will stump for Romney at a 5 p.m. reception in the Riverside Ballroom.
Ron Paul has not ended his presidential race. It looks Like Romeny has competition now, especially when Ron Paul has won at least 11 states so far picking up delegates.

Ron Paul Endorsed by South Dakota State Rep. Jon Hansen
South Dakota
Ron Paul was just endorsed by a State Rep. in South Dakota:
"Young conservative leader says, “Ron Paul’s consistency and integrity goes unmatched in today’s political environment.”
LAKE JACKSON, Texas – 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul was endorsed today by South Dakota State Representative Jon Hansen (R-Dell Rapids).
Serving his first term, the conservative upstart Rep. Hansen represents South Dakota’s 25th House District encompassing Hanson, McCook, and Minnehaha counties. His committee assignments include Judiciary, and Transportation. In addition to being an elected official and candidate for re-election, Rep. Hansen serves as a Republican Precinct Committeeman.
Rep. Hansen prides himself on being the youngest current serving member of the South Dakota State Legislature and is particularly proud to count himself among The Mount Rushmore State’s many young Ron Paul supporters.
In making public his endorsement of the 12-term Congressman from Texas, Rep. Hansen offered the following statement of praise:
“Ron Paul’s consistency and integrity goes unmatched in today’s political environment.
“As a state representative in South Dakota, I know Ron Paul understands the proper role of the federal government, and will restore the proper constitutional balance of power between Washington, the states, and the people.
“I truly believe Ron Paul has the heart of a servant, looking to the best interest of all Americans rather than to his own self-interest.
“To restore our country to its constitutional foundation, promote life, support the free market, fix our monetary system, and end war, we must elect Ron Paul for President in 2012.”
Born in Yankton and now residing in Dell Rapids where he attended Dell Rapids High School, Hansen worked his way through classes and obtained a degree in business administration. He plays an active role in his community, including past service as president of the Dell Rapids Chamber of Commerce. As chamber president, Hansen led through tough budgetary times, balancing the budget without sacrificing initiatives that promote local business and converting some activities from money-losing ones to budget-neutral ones.
During his last year in the legislature, Hansen assisted in balancing the state budget without raising taxes or taking from reserves, increased local control for school districts, and helped to reform election law.
Hansen holds deeply to his faith, his principles, and his values. Currently residing in Dell Rapids, he and his wife Sheila just welcomed their first born son into their family."Ron Paul Endorsed by South Dakota State Rep. Jon Hansen

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma Senate has overwhelmingly approved an anti-abortion "personhood" bill that declares life begins at conception.
The vote Wednesday upset doctors who fear the proposed law will jeopardize reproductive medicine.
The bill now heads to the House, where it is expected to pass. Republican Gov. Mary Fallin typically won't comment on pending legislation, but she has described herself as strongly "pro-life."
The bill provides embryos and fetuses with "all the rights privileges, and immunities" of other citizens.
Republican Sen. Brian Crain says it's modeled after a 1986 Missouri law that was later determined by the U.S. Supreme Court to be constitutional.
The bill is opposed by the Oklahoma State Medical Association, because of concerns it could affect reproductive medicine and ban certain forms of birth control.

This is the only place I dare ask this:
Keith, you are very brave, and you told GW Bush to his face some harsh truth. Why don't you tel these republicans and tea party mob the truth: they hate Obama because he is black. because they are plain old fashion bigoted guys. That they would risk having another 40 million people below the poverty line in their quest of removing Obama.
Of course, they are also annoyed that he is so much smarter, so much more articulate than they are. This is the only place I dare ask this:

What is the limit on how much money is enough for Rick Scott?
Greed and corruption are not just whims to Scott; apparently it’s his entire lifestyle.
In a State with one of the largest populations of citizens over 65, Republicans and the New Governor are taking painstaking efforts to assure that the elderly and disabled have little to no chance of protecting their health.
Scott obviously knows at this point that he is a one term Governor. Before his term is done, he intends to damage and defund Florida’s social programs at the expense of and its people while further enriching himself and his wealthy friends.
This move to ‘reform’ Medicaid has nothing to do with the budget. Scott and Florida Republicans are currently trying to enact a sweeping Medicaid reform bill that would give HMOs and other private health care companies unprecedented control over the government health care program for the poor.
The bill would also put a hard cap on the amount of money that these managed care companies could spend on Medicaid, which advocates say could particularly harm disabled and elderly patients who require costlier long-term care.
Scott’s new Medicaid reforms will basically force Public employees and people receiving food stamps, welfare or any other social financial aid to visit his Wife’s company (Solantic) for drug testing before they would be considered eligible for these programs or for public employment.
The Florida governor founded Solantic in 2001, only a few years after he resigned as the CEO of hospital giant Columbia/HCA amid a massive Medicare fraud scandal. In January, he transferred his $62 million stake in Solantic to his wife, Ann Scott. The Medicaid bill that Scott is now pushing would expand the pilot privatization program to the entire state of Florida, offering Solantic a huge new business opportunity. It’s difficult to believe the transfer of Solantic before he took office and the push for Medicaid ‘reform’ is a coincidence.
Casting himself as a free-market champion, Scott put his opposition to "Obamacare" at the heart of his campaign. But he could ultimately stand to gain from one of the federal government's biggest entitlements—a program that's also set to expand massively under the Affordable Care Act. Concludes Georgetown's Alker: "It's especially ironic when people who speak out against government involvement in health care turn around and profit from it."
"This is a conflict of interest that raises a serious ethical issue," says Marc Rodwin, a medical ethics professor at Suffolk University Law School in Boston. "The public should be thinking and worrying about this."
Once the damage is done will Florida ever have the funds to reinstate Medicaid back to where it stood before Scott executed his war on the neediest citizens of Florida?

The real issue of the Arizona tragedy : mental illness.
- Arizona tragedy arose from mental illness, not political incivility -
I think we can all agree that more civility in politics would be a good thing.
But it would also be nice if the tragic shootings in Arizona prompted a discussion of the real issue at hand, not a wild goose chase about ugly politics.
Mental illness – that's the thing we ought to be talking about, plain and simple.
Jared Loughner rattled on in gibberish about words, the meaning of words, the meaninglessness of words, words, words.
The 22-year-old dropped out of community college after frightening classmates with his hostile, rambling outbursts. He was told he couldn't return without assurances from mental-health professionals that he wasn't dangerous.
And we're harping at each other about civility in politics?
Sometimes I wonder about our own collective mental health. We would rather not deal with reality.
If Loughner is simply another young man with mental illness, well then, that doesn't leave us much room to scold each other over incivility or gun laws or whatever.
Or does it?
It may not be nearly as much fun, but this tragedy offers plenty of opportunity to talk about mental illness and the shabby way our society deals with it.
For the record, Dr. James Baker said neither political civility nor talk radio nor Sarah Palin came to his mind when he heard news about the shooter.
"I said to myself, ‘I'll bet it turns out that he has mental health problems.' "

emocrats in both chambers of Congress are scrambling to pass legislation to reauthorize expired unemployment benefits for the long-term jobless before a looming July 4 recess. One such measure failed in a 261-155 House vote on Tuesday.
Bill cosponsor Rep. Sander Levin (D-Mich.) said Democrats will return to the measure on Wednesday, when it will face a much lower simple-majority 219-vote threshold. "It will pass," said Levin, who added that he is coordinating with his counterparts in the Senate. (The House bill required a two-thirds majority on Tuesday because it was brought to the floor under a suspension of the rules.)
Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has been shuttling back and forth between Democrats and Republicans in the upper chamber in hopes of winning 60 votes for the Senate's own version of a standalone unemployment benefits bill.emocrats in both chambers of Congress are scrambling to pass legislation to... more

Despite pressure, Israeli PM firm on Gaza blockade
------JERUSALEM – Israeli forces seized a Gaza-bound aid vessel swiftly and without meeting resistance on Saturday, preventing it from breaking a naval blockade of the Hamas-ruled territory days after a similar effort turned bloody.
Israel has faced mounting international pressure to lift the blockade since Monday's deadly confrontation aboard a Turkish aid vessel headed for Gaza. But it stood by the embargo — which it says is needed to prevent the Islamic militant group from getting weapons — even as the Obama administration called the current restrictions "unsustainable."
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the blockade in remarks following the takeover, saying it was meant to keep weapons out of the hands of the Iranian-backed Hamas and he would "not allow the establishment of an Iranian port in Gaza."
The 1,200-ton Rachel Corrie, which was carrying 11 pro-Palestinian activists, nine crew and hundreds of tons of aid, was intercepted in international waters, about 20 miles (30 kilometers) from Gaza's shore and was being escorted to the nearby Israeli port of Ashdod, the military said.
The military said Saturday's takeover began at 12:15 p.m. Israeli time (0900GMT) and took just minutes.
Footage provided by the Israeli military showed three small navy vessels pulling up to the Rachel Corrie. In a second segment, footage from an Israeli aircraft hovering about the cargo ship showed the activists sitting down in the middle of the top deck.
Military spokeswoman Lt. Col. Avital Leibovich said the ship's captain had gathered the passengers in one area of the vessel, presumably to avoid violence. She said commandos clambered onto the boat by sea, instead of descending from helicopters as occurred on Monday when nine activists were killed.
