WASHINGTON (AP) -- Congressional Budget Office chief Peter Orszag is the front-runner to be President-elect Barack Obama's budget director, Capitol Hill Democrats say.
The 39-year-old CBO director has been reluctant to leave Capitol Hill's budget agency in the middle of his four-year term, but Democratic aides said Tuesday that Orszag appears likely to accept the job if offered. It's among the toughest jobs in Washington, but he would find it virtually impossible to turn down a request from Obama, they said.WASHINGTON (AP) -- Congressional Budget Office chief Peter Orszag is the front-runner... more

A major obstacle in Sen. Hillary Clinton's path to becoming President-elect Barack Obama's Secretary of State may be out of the way, as former President Bill Clinton has made several concessions to help move his wife's vetting process along.
Bill Clinton has agreed to release the names of some of his major donors, a source tells CNN.
Bill Clinton has agreed to release the names of some of his major donors, a source tells CNN.
A source familiar with the discussions between Hillary Clinton and the president-elect confirms to CNN that the former president will release the names of several major donors to the Clinton Foundation as well as submit future foundation activities and paid speeches to a strict ethics review.
In addition, the former president is offering to step down from his day-to-day responsibilities at the foundation and inform the State Department of his speaking schedule and any new sources of income.
Clinton said Wednesday that he would do whatever was asked of him in regards to the vetting process.
"Whatever they want, this is a deal between president-elect and Hillary and you should talk to them, but I'll do whatever they want," he said. "We're both committed, completely committed to his success so that's for them to work out. Whatever they do, I'll support."A major obstacle in Sen. George Bush's cabinet came in crammed with industry lobbyists. The Director of the White House Council on Environmental Quality was a lawyer for the asbestos polluters. A former lobbyist for Monsanto served as Deputy Director of the EPA. And the head of the Forest Service was a timber industry lobbyist.
Obama's not making the big policy appointments yet. But what if he did? Bush put an affirmative action opponent--the former dean of the Pat Roberston School of government in charge of The White House Office of Personnel Management. At the Administration For Children and Families, Bush named a man who spent a decade fighting domestic violence and child custody laws. To head up the Advisory Committee for Reproductive Health Drugs at FDA, Bush named a physician who refused to discuss contraception with unwed women.
To come close to any of that, Obama would have to name sex radical Susie Bright for Health and Human Services. Tree-sitter Julia Butterfly Hill for EPA. Dennis Kucinich for Secretary of State. Treasury? Jamie Galbraith. Defense? How about Cindy Sheehan.George Bush's cabinet came in crammed with industry lobbyists. The Director of... more

“She tends to spend most of the day weighing up the pros and cons of Obama as president and the various cabinet picks that need to be made. She sees herself as a sort of supreme leader, rising above the government, the party and the election results. Frankly, I’m scared she might be one racist remark short of a Republican rally.”“She tends to spend most of the day weighing up the pros and cons of Obama as... more
