Washington -- Still stinging from the lowly 10% approval rating it received from the American public, Congress has taken revenge, bestowing a measly four percent approval rating on taxpaying citizens.
“Taxpayers are doing a terrible job of providing the House and the Senate with the resources we need to run America correctly,” said one prominent Senator who asked to remain anonymous. “You ask us: ‘where are the jobs?’ We’re asking you: ‘where is the cash?’ ”
The Senator went on to deny the public’s charge that Congress can’t get together to accomplish anything worthwhile. “Right here is an issue 96% of all Senators and Representatives agree upon. Only 4% of my colleagues believe American taxpayers are holding up their end of the bargain.”
A long-term Representative, who asked to remain anonymous, said that American taxpayers are not working as hard as they should because they are being “distracted by the details of democracy.
“They need to let their Congressmen and Senators take care of such things as liberty, justice and freedom. Most of us are lawyers so we know how to work around those issues. Just send us the money and we will make everything okey-dokey.”
Another Representative, who asked to remain anonymous, began weeping when questioned about the record low approval rating Congress received this month.
“Sticks and stones can break my bones, but those low approval numbers give me a bad case of the blues. So I’m glad my colleagues had the courage to turn the tables. You suck, taxpayers.”
Building on the anti-taxpayer momentum, one Senate leader, who asked to remain anonymous, has drafted a bill “that would make corporations more like people, so they can make up for the increasing number of taxpaying slackers.
“My bill proposes that we give all corporations friendly nicknames, like Fred and Bob. Buy them a cake on their birthdays. Take them out for lunch, even when there’s no special occasion. And if some insider stock information is discussed, there’s nothing wrong with good friends shooting the breeze.”
Also included in the proposed law is a motion that would sell the naming rights to several Washington landmarks. Reportedly, a deal already has been cut with a major bank, renaming Congress’ home “The Capital One Capitol.”

Puddinpop, Virginia -- Congressional leaders have embarked on a cross country bus tour of the nation designed to put them in closer touch with the voting public.
The journey is said to be in response to a Gallup poll which shows that over 8 out of 10 Americans disapprove of Congress.
Unfortunately, only minutes after the trip began, the bus skidded out-of-control and flipped over on a Virginia interstate.
Miraculously, no one was injured in the crash. An initial accident scene investigation indicated that the majority of the 38 passengers landed on their wallets.

Barack Obama's second year as president is ending on a low note in the eyes of American voters, according to a Fox News poll released Thursday.
The president continues to suffer from upside-down job ratings, and the number who thinks he will be re-elected is down significantly. A slim majority now says the country would be better off with someone else as president. Even so, more voters would still rather have Obama as president right now than George W. Bush.
These are just some of the findings from the latest Fox News national poll of registered voters.
Expectations for Obama's presidency have declined: 29 percent of voters expect Obama to rate as either “one of the country’s greatest” or as a “good” president. That’s down from 43 percent who felt that way a year ago -- and down dramatically from 62 percent who had similarly high expectations soon after he was elected (December 2008).
In addition, the number of Democrats who think Obama will be “one of the country’s greatest presidents” stands at 9 percent -- down from a high of 30 percent in 2008. The new poll shows 33 percent think Obama’s presidency will rate as “average,” 19 percent say “below average,” and 15 percent say he will be seen as “one of the country’s worst” presidents.
About a third of voters (35 percent) think Obama deserves to be re-elected. A slim 53 percent majority says the country would be better off with someone else.

President Obama has passed the Big 4-0 -- going the wrong way.
Turns out voters were not simply satisfied to spank the Democrat and his party in the Nov. 2 midterm elections with historic losses in the House of Representatives.
Obama's job approval rating as calculated by the Zogby Poll has now sunk to 39%, a new low for his 22-month presidency that began with so much hope and excitement and poll numbers up around 70. As recently as Sept. 20, his job approval was 49%.
A whopping 60% now disapprove of his job, up from 51% disapproval Sept. 20.
Obama now trails in hypothetical 2012 matchups against Republicans Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and the next Bush, Jeb.
And, oh, my! Lookee here! Obama has even fallen into a statistical tie with none other than Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor.
How embarrassing that is because other polls have shown a majority of Americans believe she is unqualified for the presidency. So it appears many have now decided, on second thought after a nearly two-year test drive, Obama looks that way too.
Obama began losing the support of independents in the summer of 2009, as he responded to polls showing voter concerns focused on the economy by staging 59 town hall meetings on healthcare. Independents were a crucial part of his coalition win in 2008 but have now dwindled to 39%.
Only 6% of Republicans, not surprisingly, approve of Obama's job performance. But younger voters, also crucial in the ex-state senator's convincing defeat of John McCain, now approve by only 42%.
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2010/11/obama-romney-palin.html
Nearly 7 in 10 likely voters say the country is on the wrong track, rarely a good sign for incumbents.
But, Zogby notes, perhaps most ominous for the president is that he's now losing support among his own party people. His approval plopped nearly 10% in just one week, from 78% down to 72% in Zogby's latest read.
Obama, John Zogby writes, "is failing to please more than one-fourth of his own party’s voters. This is a perilous position for the President.
"Conventional wisdom calls for him to reach for the center and assume that Democrats will stay with him in 2012. But as we saw in the mid-terms, Democrats can't win without strong turnout from the young and minorities, both of which are demographics that need more motivation than others to vote."
Former governor Romney fares the best against Obama (44-38%), then comes Gingrich (43%-39%), then another former governor, Jeb Bush (40%-38%), who says he is not running. Palin ties (40%-41%). Obama does, however, destroy developer Donald Trump (39%-29%) and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg (32%-13%). (A separate Quinnipiac Poll Monday found Obama in dead heats with either Romney or former Gov. Mike Huckabee.)President Obama has passed the Big 4-0 -- going the wrong way.

Do you think Barack Obama deserves to be re-elected, or not?
If you’re like most Americans, your answer is “No,” according to a poll released on Tuesday by CNN. The perception was even worse for members of Congress nationwide — but respondents still indicated they were likely to re-elect their current Representative.

In an interview with TV Guide published on Monday, Fox News host Bill O’Reilly said that he was proud that he has “not had to retract a story in 13 years” on Fox News. Admitting that he had “made mistakes” on the air, O’Reilly said they were always corrected “quickly.” He attributed his lack of a retraction to the “brain room here at Fox” where they “triple-check everything.” Despite his claim of rigorous fact-checking, O’Reilly opened his show last night with the false claim that President Obama’s 47 percent approval rating released by Gallup on Monday was “the lowest number ever recorded for any president at this point in his term.”
If O’Reilly and his staff had simply checked Gallup’s historical data, he would have seen that President Gerald Ford reached a 42 percent approval rating in a shorter period of time and President Bill Clinton reached a low of 37 percent six months into his first term.In an interview with TV Guide published on Monday, Fox News host Bill O’Reilly... more

Most national polls have President Obama's job approval rating settling into the low- to mid-50s, but just as in a presidential election, the national numbers don't provide a picture of how he is doing in states of different political colors. Here's a sampling of recent polls that tested Obama's approval ratings at the state level. It's not a scientific or necessarily representative sample, just a roundup of what's available.

Conservatives have been making quite the todo about Obama's drop in approval ratings.
well let's see what an informed person (who's adept at informing others rather than just throwing out garbage) has to say. It's actually not anti-conservative. This opening is, but only because i'm fairly anti-conservative. sorry. favorite part: "I'm not reflexively anti-FOX; in fact, I'd had a couple of good experiences last year on Shepherd Smith and on their business channel. But as for their morning program: Wow. I've never met people more terrified of what might happen if they actually tried to engage in a rational discussion."
"This past Friday, I woke up at the crack of dawn to do an interview for Fox and Friends. As I walked into the studio on the ground floor of the News Corporation building, a producer, the urgency apparent on her face, handed me a printout of an article indicating that Barack Obama's approval rating had dropped to 50 percent in the latest Gallup poll, which is where it remains as of this morning.
This is modestly unorthodox, for what it's worth. I've done a few dozen television interviews now and have never before been handed a piece of paper with what I guess are supposed to be that day's discussion points. But this is a morning show and Obama's approval numbers were not a topic that I'd discussed the previous night with the producers; they wanted to make sure I was prepared. No harm there, I suppose.
The thing is, though, that Obama's approval rating haven fallen to 50 percent is not particularly newsworthy. There's no reason that a drop from 51 percent to 50 percent, or from 50 percent to 49 percent, means anything particularly more than a drop from 58 percent to 57 percent, or from 37 percent to 36 percent.
First of all, although I'm on record as being quite pessimistic about what's liable to happen to the Democrats in 2010, odds are that Obama's approval will have to be somewhat worse than 50 percent for the Democrats to lose the House. The relationship between Presidential approval and his party's fate at the midterm elections is quite linear. An approval rating of 50 percent would typically be associated with a loss of about 26 seats:"Conservatives have been making quite the todo about Obama's drop in approval... more

President Barack Obama's job approval rating is down to 42%, with a decline in approval from Democrats the leading factor.
The latest Zogby Interactive poll of 4,518 likely voters conducted from August 28-31 found 48% disapprove and 42% approve of the job Obama is doing. The poll found 75% of Democrats approve of Obama's performance, a drop of 13 points among Democrats from an interactive poll done July 21-24 of this year. That same poll found 48% of all likely voters approving of Obama's job performance, and 49% disapproving.
In the most recent poll, 8% of Republicans and 37% of Independents approve of Obama's job performance. Both are down slightly from six weeks ago; two points among Republicans and three among Independents.

Ouch!
"A new poll published today by Rasmussen Reports shows that President Barack Obama's approval ratings have hit an all-time low. 40% of those polled said they "strongly disapprove" of the president's job performance so far, while only 30% said they "strongly approve." This gives Obama a net of -10%, which is the worst number he has seen since being sworn into office just over six months ago. The numbers manifest themselves most clearly when looked at in terms of party. 72% of republicans strongly disapprove of the president while only 56% of democrats strongly approve of the job he is doing. These numbers suggest that the opposition to Obama is simply more passionate than his support.
President Obama, who marketed himself as a moderate during his campaign, is being seen increasingly as a liberal by voters. 76% of those polled said they believed Obama was a liberal, while 48% said they see him as "very liberal." The latter number is up an astounding 20 points from where it was at the time he was elected. Only 49% of those polled said they at least somewhat approve of the job the president is doing."Ouch!
