After the invasion of 2003, the Pentagon promptly started constructing a series of monster bases in occupied Iraq, the size of small American towns and with most of the amenities of home.– Military bases R U.S. Or so it seems. "Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper has temporarily shut down Parliament until March, after the close of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. The move shuts down all parliamentary committees, including a probe into whether Canadian troops turned over Afghan prisoners to Afghan authorities to be tortured. Liberal House leader Ralph Goodale accused Harper of padlocking Parliament and shutting down democracy. Goodale said, “Three times in three years and twice within one year, the Prime Minister takes this extraordinary step to muzzle Parliament. This time it’s a cover-up of what the Conservatives knew, and when they knew it, about torture in Afghanistan."

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Officially, Illinois lawmakers will gather soon to consider a special election to replace Barack Obama in the U.S. Senate — but it was already clear Sunday that ousting disgraced Gov. Rod Blagojevich was at the top of many to-do lists.
"On a scale of one to 10, impeachment is 25 and everything else is a two," said Rep. Jack Franks, a fellow Democrat from Woodstock.
A legislative session beginning Monday will be the first since Blagojevich was arrested last week on charges that he tried to profit from his power to choose Obama's replacement and shook down businesses seeking state deals.
Republicans said Sunday that they plan to put intense public pressure on Democrats to move against Blagojevich. A spokesman for Democratic House Speaker Michael Madigan said he will discuss the idea with Republican leaders on Monday.
Meanwhile, Blagojevich was expected to firm up his legal representation after meeting over the weekend with Chicago attorney Ed Genson, who has defended media mogul Conrad Black and R&B singer R. Kelly. On Sunday, Blagojevich's wife, Patti, went into Genson's building.
Genson, a bulldog who generally takes his cases to trial, has said he and the governor would make a "mutual decision" on Monday. Blagojevich spokesman Lucio Guerrero said the governor "has no plans on resigning Monday."
Chicago deserves all of this negative attention in my opinion. Corruption has been the city's trade mark for over one hundred years. Why is everybody so surprised? Chicago has had plenty of time to clean itself up. So...they must be happy with corrupt politicians. They keep electing them. And ....this guys Reputation precedes him. So , to now act as if "we got to get this guy outta here" is just a silly attempt. to either divert the countries attention away from their corrupt state. Or an attempt to shut him up before he makes a deal. A deal exposing WHO KNOWS !!! His life isn't worth a wooden nickle right now. He had better get some DAMN good protection from the FEDS. and some good Life Insurance. Because you know he isn't going down alone, Jesse Jackson JR. reputation is all ready ruined, and the more he talks the more he looks dirty. The question is where are all the skeletons buried, because the scandal is too big to handle in house anymore. And this guy isn't going down alone.SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Officially, Illinois lawmakers will gather soon to consider... more

Gordon Brown says it is time for "action, not words"
Three-quarters of the most serious terror plots being investigated by UK authorities have links to Pakistan, UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown has said.
He was unveiling a £6m ($8.9m) deal with Pakistan he called "the most comprehensive anti-terrorist programme" between the UK and another country.
He is in Pakistan meeting President Asif Ali Zardari, following talks with India's premier Manmohan Singh.
UK police want to quiz a Pakistani suspect in the Mumbai attacks.
They want to interview Mohammed Ajmal Amir Qasab - the sole gunman taken alive - about terror groups operating from Pakistan.
Mr Brown's series of meetings in the region came as Pakistan accused India of violating its airspace.
India has denied this but has announced a security overhaul. It blames Pakistan-based militants for the Mumbai attacks, which killed at least 170 people, including one Briton.
Mr Brown said he had wanted to express his condolence for thelink

The World is on a teeter totter right now. The decisions the world makes in the next few years can make or break us as a civilization. It is my opinion we must change as a people. Becoming more caring toward our fellow earthlings. Change can only happen at the top. I believe that the 10 most powerful countries must lead by example. Many things need addressed, the amount of money spent on weapons is one thing, Farming is another, Energy is a big issue, World Peace, Water, Religious intolerance, Race, Waste, Over Population, Pollution, Hate, all these things have much room for improvement. We have to start somewhere. If we don't we deserve our fate. As one of the most powerful America has to lead but not in the way that she has led. Our leaders need some humility. We all are just people, and someday as it did with the financial state, the world state might change. We should be more prepared for it, if something drastic happens. We know the answers too most of our problems, we just need to implement them. I would like posters to leave suggestions on the above topics, please leave all the hate and partisan BS at the door, don't attack fellow posters no matter how stupid they sound, lets just get along on this one. These are the most powerful countries in the world .

A report released by the US National Intelligence Council suggests that America's power is set to wane in the coming decades as economic power and wealth shifts from west to east, and nonstate actors have greater influence. In addition, the report warns of a bleak future:
“The world of the near future will be subject to an increased likelihood of conflict over resources, including food and water, and will be haunted by the persistence of rogue states and terrorist groups with greater access to nuclear weapons.”
They also predict the dollar will continue to weaken in its role as the dominant currency to the point where it becomes a “first among equals."A report released by the US National Intelligence Council suggests that America's... more
