Cryptic Studios and Atari has announced that they are including a free-to-play option for the superhero MMO 'Champions Online' for those not yet ready to fork out the subscription service.
Cryptic CEO John Needham said the free play model is "a great opportunity to reach a whole new audience of PC gamers that view subscription fees as a barrier to entry." The free-to-play option will launch early 2011 but the subscription service will still be running for unlocking most of the content.

Developer Cryptic Studios and publisher Atari have officially announced that they are working on a new Neverwinter video games which is to be focused on cooperative play and will arrive on the PC at some point in 2011, just as well known author R.A. Salvatore puts together a new fiction series that will tell the story of the game universe.
There have been a lot of rumors about Cryptic and about them working on a new MMO project built around the Neverwinter game universe.
The big surprise of the official announcement is that there’s no talk of a MMO coming from the two companies but of a PC experience that is built around the mechanics of cooperation between gamers.
Cryptic and Atari are saying that they will be bringing gamers back to the old fantasy city in a climate of instability, with multiple disasters limiting the resources of the authorities and with multiple factions ready to fight for supremacy.

Cryptic Studios have ended its $200 lifetime subscription offer early because they have ran out of subscriptions.
In a statement posted online: "We do sincerely apologize for the rather abrupt end to the promotional offers, It was never our intention to spring that news on our fans or anyone else. In short, we had an allotment of special subscription packages to sell over a fixed time (ending September 1). When we began approaching the offer cap before the date cap, we had to message. Frankly, we never suspected our special offers to be so popular."
