An innocent man has been executed in the Gulag State of Texas. This man, whose innocence is now proven, is the ultimate price paid for endemic, state-sponsored idiocy and less excusable psychopathy. Educational standards have declined under fascist GOP regimes --prominently Bush Jr and his successor Rick Perry. Incarceration rates have risen and justice is applied inequitably. The death of innocents at the hands of a psychopathic, GOP dominated state is the price we pay for allowing the GOP any influence, any power.
A report published today in the New Yorker finds that Cameron Todd Willingham, who was executed in 2004 in Texas for setting a fire that killed his three daughters, was innocent. He is pictured at left with his two-year-old daughter Amber, who died in the fire.
This is incredibly sad news, but it also marks the most conclusive evidence yet that an innocent person has been put to death in the United States. We’ve known for years that the arson science used to convict Willingham was flat-out wrong. Today’s New Yorker report goes further: it dismantles the case that sent Willingham to his death, point-by-point, proving that every shred of evidence used against him was false.
Innocence Project Co-Director Barry Scheck wrote in the Huffington Post: "There can no longer be any doubt that an innocent person has been executed. The question now turns to how we can stop it from happening again." ...An innocent man has been executed in the Gulag State of Texas. This man, whose... more

Troy Davis faces execution for the murder of Police Officer Mark MacPhail in Georgia, despite a strong claim of innocence. 7 out of 9 witnesses have recanted or contradicted their testimony, no murder weapon was found and no physical evidence links Davis to the crime. The Georgia Board of Pardon and Paroles has voted to deny clemency, yet Governor Perdue can still exercise leadership to ensure that his death sentence is commuted. Please urge him to demonstrate respect for fairness and justice by supporting clemency for Troy Davis.
He deserves another trial at the very least.

RECESSION! WE ARE INSIDE OF ONE RIGHT NOW. As tired as I am of having this recession jammed down my throat at every opportunity (I am a firm believer that if the press didn't tell us we were in a recession we wouldn't be in one), it has produced some interesting phenomenon.
While crimes like... Say.... Murder might be on the rise during a recession - capitol punishment is in the red.

It seems we can no longer afford to execute the people that are robbing/killing us for the money we don't have. US executions are at a 14 year low citing the cost of execution as a reason for the slump. Ok, fair enough - I've never been pro-death penalty... Maybe this recession isn't so bad I'm thinking - WRONG!

Ain't this recession just a kick in the pants! The global economy is in such a crisis that industries such as 'sex-tourism' are turning belly up. So now when I go to Prague I'm going to have to enjoy the local culture and cuisine... Greaaaaaat......
Ok so, we can't execute people, we can't travel internationally to pay for sex... Things are getting pretty bad. Any solutions? How bout we just print new money!

Neighborhoods in Milwaukee are discussing printing their own nifty little money in order to combat the lack of real money and encourage local spending. I think I might have came up with this idea when I was 6. Well Milwaukee, more power to you! If you can get people to spend Milwaukee fun-bucks then I will be the first person to counterfeit them and buy all your stuff.
